  1. Same boat here. I have nothing against the Ned Rig or or anything that catches fish but throwing it in the lake I fish most of the time would be the same as taking the money I spent on any of it and just throwing THAT directly in the water
  2. I suspect THIS will qualify. I have another one just like it black. The inspiration for this is a Chrome/Blue and Chrome/Black Rat-L-Trap. Custom made. My thought was to use this on a shallow flat I fish occasionally on Bluebird days. Guess what? It works. I put a white twin tail grub on them tipped with JJ's Red.
  3. I've never caught a bass on a 1973 AMC Gremlin. Well? It's true! What's that? Lures? Ooooooooh. Dropshot. I have never, ever, caught a bass dropshotting. Waaaay too boring for me to bother with.
  4. Like I'm sure a lot on here, I just got the Bass Pro Master Catalog in the mail. Does it seem to anyone else that they (the manufacturers) are sure trying to cash in on "Ned" fishing? Lol.....for goodness sakes, I guess you can make a small version of anything these days and call it "Ned". I also think it's funny that you can buy a Yum Dinger or basically any of the regular stickbaits that they have clearly just cut in half or in 3rds for the same price as the regular sizes but they say "Ned" on them. I got nothing against the technique but I'm pretty sure most of it now ain't what ol Ned Kehde was doing. Not slamming anyone that loves the technique but just laughing at the fact that we fishermen are sure a gullible lot!
  5. I just thought of stuff I DON'T do that, these days, most do. I don't use electronics. Most of my fishing is done from a bass raider that I actually removed the fish finder from when I bought it. Don't need it and didn't wanna mess with it. I don't take video of myself and the only pictures I really ever take are of the landscape. I rarely ever even have my phone in the boat. I've been asked a few times to take some froggin videos but I don't do anything special you can't see a million different places and that would just seem like work to me. Not to get all hippy-dippy but fishing, for me, is kinda like church. It's my time to disconnect from the big world, get outta my head, and be in nature and the part of the world that has no use for money, careers, politics, etc. the days I know I'm doing it best are the days that I am just reacting to what is being given me with very little thought.
  6. A fine old lure. Caught many working one parallel along grass lines.
  7. Well....I don't peg bullet weights to the bait on my T-rig set up. I'll put the stop a few inches up the line and put not one but 2 beads between the weight and the bait. Usually a glass one and a shiny metal one. In my mind, it gives that little bit of click and the shiny metal bead gives a target and the whole thing is just a little different than what is normally seen? Does it work? I dunno. I've caught plenty of fish with that rig but I don't know if it's more than I would have without it. Most of the time, my T-rigs are weightless as I'm usually fishing a straight stickbait. The above set up is for a ribbon tail, brush hog, or even a hula grub. *shrugs* Works for me!
  8. Meh......I managed to all but banish the monkey. I understand him and I know he's lurking but I know how I fish and what I need. I'm more in danger of being TOO locked into my habits than trying a bunch of new things. Most of my purchases are restock rather than new stuff
  9. I got a trip to the ER with just that scenario. One of the trebles wound up buried to the hilt in my thumb. I NEVER fish without needle nose pliers now.
  10. I actually like 30 lb a little better than 40 but you won't go wrong with either
  11. Ha...even now looking at pictures I took and places I've caught fish, I look at these pictures and think.."Oooooo....I'd cast to that stump or under that overhang." I HAVE! I DO! It's an addiction...lol
  12. St. Croix Mojo Glass Cranking Rod. Hated...HATED the way that thing casted and most of the time, I would backlash. Gave up after 2 YEARS of trying and sold it Only rod I've ever purchased without at least feeling how it felt in my hand. Won't happen again
  13. You could always just take a camera
  14. Welcome! To me, the answer lies in the type of fishing you do and your personal financial situation. Based on what I'm seeing on that rod, it would be perfect for large top waters and swimbaits and what I would call "Close Quarters Frogging" and even jigs. The little lake I fish is full of stumps, laydowns, brush piles, etc., and most of my fishing is done from a Bass Raider. Sometimes I am up against several trees or casting to an exact spot without a lot of room around me. A little shorter frog would be ideal for me in those situations. I make do, of course, but this rod would make it better. I wouldn't hesitate to call out Amazon and see if you can keep the rod AND get another one or at least another one at the same or even further discounted price. If you have no use for a shorter, heavy action rod or can't afford another one, send it back and get what you wanted in the first place. BTW...based on what I'm seeing, that is NOT a cheap rod and I'm not sure they even make it anymore. You are right...there is not a lot of info on it
  15. Of course I love fishing but I also get as much enjoyment out of just being in nature. I get to see things that not a lot of others do. I'm not talking about big, grandiose things, just nature being nature. Seeing a riotous display of blooms in the spring that were not planted by man and do not care if a human ever sees them. Seeing a momma raccoon teaching her babies how to wash food. Having a platter sized snapping turtle surface next to my boat just to check me out. I LOVE those things. And THEN you get to feel the old familiar tug on the end of the line or see and feel the explosion on a frog. Best thing in the world.
  16. I have nothing against Spike it, but it ain't JJ's. Pretty much EVERY soft bait I throw get's tipped in JJ's chartreuse now. Just be careful with it if you are new to it. Spill it (and you will) and you will smell it for a long time. Also, on a hot day, it will boil over.
  17. BTW......I was the OP and I went JJ's and never looked back. It's the shizznizzy. Even after I dropped a bottle in my garage!
  18. I throw that exact worm all the time
  19. What do you need to know? 1. It's a bad idea. 2. It's probably illegal and if it isn't, it should be. 3. The bass will die and it will be your fault. Seems harsh, I suppose, but you asked what you need to know.
  20. Yep....I don't even take my phone in the boat with me. I know it sounds nuts but I have never taken a picture of a fish I have caught.
  21. Maybe but fishing is a big part of my life and I'm sure as heck not gonna give up a summer of it if I don't have to. I had to take a couple of years away from fishing some years back before I had Back surgery. It was miserable. I'm not advocating hurting himself. Just to do everything possible to keep going SAFELY. Even it's catching bluegill on a Zebco from the bank in a park pond.
  22. Take a rod with you to your next appointment. Tell your therapist this is a very important part of your life and explain the movements. Maybe they can incorporate those movements into your rehab. I'd be hard pressed to NOT start fishing in the spring after a long winter if there was any way I could do some.
  23. What would I do? Be very excited and as I most likely would not have a camera and may or may not have a scale, I would unhook her, admire the heck outta her for a couple of seconds, probably even give her kiss. Thank the good Lord for the opportunity, wish her well, and release her. I would desperately want that fish to see another day. I would be devastated to be the reason for that fish to die
