  1. I'll give a little different take. Do I like seeing people keep big bass? No. With that said, the little lake I fish the most (approximately 80 acres) has an 18" OVER limit. Meaning you can't keep the bass unless they are OVER that! Huh? I've asked our DOC agent about this and she just shrugs and says she doesn't understand it either. I've told her many times it needs to be UNDER 15 to keep and leave the big girls for us Sportsmen. Luckily, most of the "keeper" people are cat or crappie fishing and I simply don't care about that
  2. Better question......Why wouldn't I?
  3. Medium spinning rod with 10lb (I'm guessing mono)? Throw something besides a frog. When you get a baitcaster with a heavy rod, spool it up with AT LEAST 30 lb braid and put a 5/8 oz Scumfrog trophy series on it and cast into the gnarliest crap you can find. If money is an issue, get the 7:1 BPS Pro Qualifier and mount it on a 7' MH Extreme Rod. It's what I use and makes a GREAT froggin combo. Those extreme Rods are like fishing with an axe handle. They'll horse a big girl out of anything.
  4. I spend what I spend. I...like most.....work very hard for my living. I provide a roof over the head of my family and everything else they need. I've never bought fishing gear when I had other priorities. I have no other hobbies and I don't drink. Even with all that, it's probably still less than $1000 a year. I don't hide anything from my wife because I don't have to....nor would I live a life that would require me to hide anything like that.
  5. Ahhhhh....Engineers. If you are using this to frog in slop and you don't have the drag turned all the way up, you're doing it wrong. You may have it set right for other applications but with froggin, your reel basically becomes a winch. If you are turning the handle and it's turning but the spool isn't, crank that drag down. You don't "play" fish in slop. You get em the heck outta there. Fast.
  6. ^This^ That heavy algae and vegetation is pretty much all I frog. I would add that when you set the hook, get that fish out of there FAST or you got a real fight on your hands. If you fish that kinda stuff for 4-8 hours straight and you don't come home exhausted with at least one frog completely destroyed you ain't doing it right.
  7. Too quick......I was wound up pretty tight from a bad day and was trying to set the hook way too quick
  8. I missed several hook sets. Timing waaaaay off.
  9. Exactly
  10. I've got them and were using them. I am probably close to being "expert level" with a hollow body frog. Not yesterday. Had plenty of blowups. No hookups. When I wasn't froggin I was throwing a Grape Shad Fat Maxx on a 3/8 Swinghead and Wacky rig Senko's. All 3 proven fish catchers on this little lake. When nothing was working, that's when I started just throwing anything. It wasn't my methods or technique. I wasn't focused and I wasn't in the groove. My hookup rate for frogs is around 90-95%. Yesterday it was Zero. Just a bad day

Bad day at work so I decide to head to my local haunt. Fished it a million times. Haven't been skunked in years. All out of sync...could never find my rhythm and always had the wrong thing tied on. On top of that I musta lost $30 worth of tackle. I felt like I had never been fishing in my life. Just one of those nights I guess. Lord...that SUCKED!!! End of rant!
  12. The smartassery is strong in this thread.
  13. 20 lb Power Pro Slick 8 with a 12 lb Fluoro leader. If you throw frogs put 30 lb on it and forget the leader. Make sure you keep about 1/3 of that mono for backing. That PP is expensive and will slip like crazy without it.
  14. Those are rough. I still dream of what had to be close to a double digit girl that inhaled a frog of mine last year. I fought her like a pro. Gave her NO leverage....until she switched direction on me and I couldn't take slack up fast enough. She jumped completely out of the water...gave me a wink with a twinkle in her eye...and spit my frog straight up in the air. It literally brought me to my knees cursing the Gods. She's still in there. Call me Ishmael.
  15. This is how I feel about the Mepps Comet Mino. When I'm getting skunked, I tie this on. I will catch fish. Why do I wait to use this lure? I have no idea. I've caught everything from Sunnies to 3-4 lb LMBs on one and I always have 2 or 3 in my box somewhere
  16. Pictures or none of this happened. It'll help us have "sympathy".
  17. Well......recently I was out and 2 younger guys came up and showed me a beautiful 4.5 lb LMB they had caught and were going to keep. I asked and cajoled them to put it back but they didn't. It made me feel bad but there wasn't anything I could do about because they were within their right to do so. I believe the Stones said it best....You can't always get what you want.......
  18. I honestly have no idea what is being said here
  19. Chillax......it's all good. I got kids around his age and I'm just giving the young feller a hard time. AND I answered his original question.
  20. I wasn't joking in my post. I DID call them and that is what they told me they had.
  21. They got a few Bionic Blades and Microlites on Clearance right now. Wow...that was terrifying
  22. $30? Terminal tackle...nothing but. Not sexy but I burn through it a lot faster than I think I do.
  23. Good Spook Bait? Uuhhhh.......Spook
