  1. There is no "right" answer. Only a "Right 4 you" answer. And that's all that matters.
  2. I'm a switcher. RH dominant. I too move the handle to the right side on spinning reels. I've trained myself to the point that I can't even set a hook right with my right arm or impart proper action to a lure...(walking the dog, etc.) but I can't cast worth a darn with my left hand.....although I am learning. Weirdly, I can't pitch or flip with my right hand at all. I do that with my left. As someone else said...we're all different and whatever works for you. I don't think I've ever lost a fish because I was changing hands.
  3. I can't believe this thread is now 4 pages deep. The ol' internet is a pretty big place and you can see pretty much whatever your heart desires. Last I knew, I was free to watch what I want and not watch what I don't. It's ok to be critical (example.....on one of Glenn's latest videos, i though there was too much music and I said so) but if you don't like it, don't watch it or visit the site. Easy Peasy.
  4. Looks like a great time. I'd give about anything to spend the day fishing with my old man.
  5. Fair enough. I notice you got a poppin frog on there. I guess I view frogs a little different. I'll throw a frog into anything. The heaviest, nastiest stuff and that is pretty much only what I use them for. When I get to the end of the slop, I'll bounce it a few times and give it a little work but then I just reel back for another cast. I've tried walking them back but never had any luck so I stopped
  6. I've had good luck throwing a 9" Culprit Fat Max (I've been liking Grape Shad lately) on 3/8 or 1/2 swinghead around stumps and other structure. Toss em in by the stump or tree or whatever and let them fall.
  7. I'm curious about all you guys that talk about how well this or that frog walks. Why are you walking these baits? To me....(and I'm certainly no expert but am pretty darn good with a frog)...these are slop baits. If I want to walk the dog, I pull out a Spook or Sexy Dawg
  8. I have basically the exact same problem. I see a Dr. at 1:45 this afternoon. My wife is worried that I might need surgery. Why is she so worried? Because if, for some reason, I wouldn't be able to fish for the rest of the summer and Fall, she may have to strangle me in my sleep.
  9. This is a terrific idea and one I WILL be trying!
  10. and also..the Alberto is not as "fussy" as the picture I posted makes it out to be. I'm usually tying 20 lb Power pro to 12 lb fluoro. I make 7 loops up and 4 or 5 back and they don't always lay perfectly between the forward loops. I'll pull it about 3/4 tight , run my fingers over it a time or 2 to smooth it out and cinch it up. Never had one break that wasn't snagged. Once again..if I can do it...you can too
  11. In my best infomercial voice........It really is...just that simple. Plop it next to a stump or or something and let it fall, IF it hits bottom, raise your rod straight up, reel in the slack and let it fall again. A lot of guys use the Watermelon/Green Pumpkin colors, and I do too, but don't rule out bright colors either. I've caught a LOT of bass on Bubblegum Senkos on a wacky rig.
  12. Alberto knot........Learn it. Know it. Live it. My stubby little, sausage-like fingers have trouble tying knots. I can tie the Alberto without much hassle. If I can do it...you can too.
  13. Scumfrog followed by Pad Crasher followed by Live Target. If you can't get a bass to hit this in the muck..go home. I don't trim the legs, I don't modify the hooks. I just fish the h*ll out of them. They make a distinct *plop* when the hit the water that has caused more blow-ups than I can remember.
  14. I don't get all the different types of videos out there but then again...I don't have to. I watch what I want to and ignore the rest. At 48 yrs old, fishing is, to me, a chance to get away from all the electronic gizmos and crap I deal with on a daily basis. I don't carry a Go Pro...heck, I lock my phone in my truck. I don't even have...*GASP*....electronics on my boat. I just bought a new boat and will probably put something on it but it won't be high dollar. A guy in his 20's or 30's wouldn't even think of not having a camera or electronics......wouldn't even cross his mind. different strokes..........
  15. Lord...I can't imagine froggin out of a kayak. I throw frogs into some MAJOR slop
  16. Sounds to me like she has perfect aim. She was aiming at your heart and hit it dead on!
  17. 3 casts? You lose confidence after THREE casts? Find a new hobby, Son. Lol.........Seriously, SLOW DOWN and lose the memory. For some of us, this is a lifelong hobby. This time of year I fish 5-6 time a week. Sometimes from my boat for hours and sometimes from the bank for 1 hour. Those little 1 hour trips are where I take 1 rod and one lure....just like someone else mentioned. I shutdown the ol' brainpan and just fish. Even on those long all day trips I take what the conditions give me and just fish. Like you, I've done my research but I am not sitting there thinking "what would this or that person' do. I just fish. I look at the trees and geese. I watch cranes doing their own fishing. I watch the beavers being busy. I'll look at a stump sticking out of the water and think.."If I was bass, I'd like that stump"...and usually....usually....yep.....there's one there just waiting on my jig or Senko to come fluttering down. Slow down, relax, and think, but don't overthink. It's called being in the zone. I can't imagine that everyone on here hasn't been where you are right now. It'll make you a better fisherman.
  18. Yep...last year. Rat-L-Trap with a 2 lb'er hooked on the other treble. Couldn't get it out and had to go to the ER. Now I wear I wear a Kevlar Knife glove on my left hand when I'm throwing trebles. A buddy made fun of me but I couldn't care less. That was an expensive, painful bass.
  19. I went straight from Zebco's to baitcasters, but I actually did something smart for a change. I bought my first BC in WINTER. I did NOT try to learn it on the water. I bought a BPS Pro Qualifer ( I still use it...in fact, I tore it down yesterday and cleaned and lubed it) and had it spooled up with the cheapest bulk mono that BPS had. And I practiced. And I practiced. and I practiced. Nothing better to do in Winter any way. I backlashed it...dug it out, and backlashed again. I tied on different size plugs, fiddled with the brakes and backlashed it again. Until one day I didn't backlash it. then I worked on my accuracy. I pitched into coffee cans, went out in the yard and tried to land one next to a bush or rock, took it to my favorite ponds and dinked around with it, casting out on the ice, etc. Now I can land just about anything just about anywhere and I LOVE my BC's. I use my ONE spinning reel for the real light finesse stuff and I'm not nearly as proficient with it, nor do I need to be. They don't get a ton of love but I HIGHLY recommend the PQ as a first BC. They are built like a tank, are easily adjustable and just flat out work. They are not super highly refined but I haven't found much they can't do any worse than my "better" reels. In the meantime, get you a Pflueger President in the size most comfortable for you, put it on a better rod (I've heard good things about the Berkeley Lighting Rods), string it up with some lighter (I like 20lb) Power Pro Slick 8, learn to tie on a leader, and enjoy your fishing. In the meantime, go to places like BPS and Cabela's or wherever you like and feel some BC's. Do some research. Grab a BC and actually put it on different rods. See how it feels in your hand. See if you want a righty or a lefty. There is no "right" one. Just the right one for YOU. I'm the type of person that will NOT use something that isn't comfortable for me....no matter how expensive it is. Kinda like that old PQ of mine. I have waaaay "better" reels that I enjoy using but I always find that old PQ in my hand. Spend some time now to enjoy what you get later. It will make a world of difference.
  20. I am and I agree. I think it might be worn a little but she's working good right now and now I know I can replace any part on this darn thing if I need to. I spent about 8 hours on it yesterday. I put it back together incorrectly about 4 times...lol. But now I know and I'm comfortable with it.
  21. Tore it down completely today...way further than I should have...lol. Gave it a complete cleaning and lube. It was very very dirty. Just got it back together and now it works better than new.
  22. I use an old PQ for my froggin reel and tonight I looked down and discovered the level winder was going over to one side and staying there. I would ride back and forth maybe a 1/4" on that one side (left...looking down at the reel). If I pushed on it with my thumb it would continue on. It's a good old reel and I wanna keep it going. GREAT for froggin. Any ideas?
