  1. Scumfrog Trophy series Natural Black/Green. 5/8 oz. Learn it.....know it....live it. Not worth a darn at what I call "Finesse Froggin". Light Lilly Pads, lots of open water. It is NOT a substitute for a spook, BUT......if, like me, you throw frogs into the deepest, nastiest cover. This is your man. I Do absolutely nothing to them. I chuck em in as deep as I can them and start bringing them back. I'll usually pause after they land for a few secondsto let that *PLOP* reverberate through the water and then givem a twitch. If no blowup...bring it in a ways slowly and stop. Give a twitch or two. Do that all the way back to the boat. More often than not, I will get a blowup....and about 80% of the blowups equals a fish in the boat. I like other brands but when the slop gets heavy...THIS is what I throw. ps...on sale at Cabelas right now for 4 something. AND...if you use the coupon code 16cave you get an ADDITINAL 10% off and free shipping. They are backordered but yesterday I bought 10 of them.
  2. 70 fish per frog? Wow! I fish frogs HARD. 2 weekends ago I had 3 frogs shredded to hell because the bite was so good and then dragging them in through the muck. I HAPPILY replaced them. If you can't afford a lure that catches 70 fish per before it's done, try a different technique
  3. Lol....no. That makes it seem like work.
  4. No. 99% of the time, I'm fishing a lake I know like the back of my hand
  5. Been there....done that......still have the hook pieces in a specimen bottle as a "souvenir". As someone else said....welcome to the club.
  6. While reading the "What were they trying to do" thread I thought of this goofy thing I used to do when fishing a small river. It was basically a dumb man's Carolina rig but made before I had any idea what I was doing. I would put some sinkers on my line maybe a foot above the hook. Enough to keep it on the bottom in a current. A few inches above the hook I would a put a really small clip on bobber. Then I'd rig the hook with a night crawler. The bobber kept the hook off the bottom. Looking back it was goofy as heck but guess what.......I caught a few catfish and stuff with it. NOT a world beater by any stretch but it worked. Ok...your turn. Rat yourself out
  7. d**n....I been winning tournaments on the Dufus rig for a couple of years now. No one else knew about but me. I gues that's over....THANKS!!!
  8. I think it's silly, too, but then again...I don't really care.
  9. 40 yards? That's a pretty good cast. Here I was thinking that MY PQ's are good for about 40 yards and I consider that a pretty good launch
  10. Just thought of another one that I'm guessing is pretty universal....I will always have "just one more cast" that turns into about 10.
  11. I used nit crawlers and minnows when I was just putzing around at fishing. Now I bass fish exclusively and use artificial. Why? Because it's what I do. You use live bait? Great...have fun. Couldn't care less either way
  12. https://brinkmansbaitandtackle.com/baits/ Google is your friend. I'm in Missouri. It's closed now by the way
  13. Ah...ok. I got it in my head that this could be rigged so the hook rode up. I thought.."How did I not know about this!"
  14. This the damndest thing i've ever seen! Does it ride hook up in the water (or on top of the slime)? Scum Frog Trophy Series Natural Black/Green. 5/8 oz Cast it parallel to the bank as much as you can and work it slow with a lot of twitches. If nothing blows up on it, there isn't anything there.
  15. Well.....I don't throw crankbaits into algae...at least not on purpose! other than that, I don't throw a frog on anything less than 30 lb braid and I will NOT catch a fish unless I'm wearing my raggedy old hat that looks like ***** and drips brown when it rains. When it finally falls apart it will have a proper burial at sea. Oh yeah...and the dump thing like lo n slo.
  16. I tie 12 lb Stren Flourocast to 20 lb PP. Cheap and have never broke off UNINTENTIONALLY. I use an Improved Albright. Works great
  17. I can do it.......you can do it.
  18. Hey Hootie.......wanna feel a little better? About a year ago I had some bucktail jigs custom made for me in the off season. We got a nice day in February or so I grabbed 3 of the 5 and took them out to the lake I bank fish from. Tie on one.....single cast. Hung up...had to cut it off. Tie on number 2....cast to different spot....note...I've been to this lake 1000's of time. I know where the snags are....except that day apparently. Snag # 2. Cut off. Ready for this? Tie on Number 3.....cut off tagline and toss jig into water. As jig is sailing into water (way further than it should have) I notice that it has no line....other than the tagline. Yep...cut the main line. Jig was gone. 2 casts...3 custom made jigs. I called my jig maker and told him to make me 3 more and don't ask any farkin questions. He laughed and said he was happy to take my money. It happens, my friend. It happens.
  19. That's when I look for the gnarliest mats of muck I can find and start throwing frogs
  20. I'm gonna mention one that doesn't get a lot of love around here....Pflueger President. The only spinning reel I have in my arsenal. I strung mine up with 8 lb Invisix Red and never looked back. It has caught me a ton of big bass and has performed flawlessly. Heck it's even been in the drink and shook it off like a champ. Even if I wanted a more expensive reel, I see no reason to buy one. They do what you ask them to do.
  21. Look at the Lobina Rico. Would you pay $20 for that lure? Looks like a Rebel Pop'R to me. I wouldn't pay it....but that's just me. LOT'S of guys do and they are justified in doing so because, to them, it is worth it. To each his own. Even better example....take a look at the Roman Made Swim baits. HOLY COW!!!
  22. Got 2 daughters. Would happily and immediately kill anyone that threatened or hurt either of them. I've figured out that a man can get pretty mean when it comes to protecting his baby girls. She's beautiful. Congratulations. I imagine it's pretty great with a son but when a DAUGHTER calls you Daddy....it makes every sacrifice you will ever make..and you'll make lot's.......completely worth it. Including using a handle on a mostly men's web forum that a lot of guys would think is maybe "questionable". Jade Rose is the handle I use on this and other forums because it is the middle names of my daughters
  23. BRAID!!!! I suppose it's possible but I would NEVER throw a frog on anything less than 30lb braid. With that said, all the advice above is valid. Down size a bit. I had a bass knock my frog about 4 ft in the air the other day. All part of the fun
  24. Yep...stained water. I fish Bubblegum Senkos more than any other color. When the water is green, why throw a bait that's green? I can't see the d**n thing, why do I think a fish can?
  25. So......you bought this reel. In a very short period of time you have A.) Dropped it in the water. B.) Lost the tension control knob. C.) Taken it apart and struggled to put it back together....apparently not believing the schematics and, I'm assuming, NOT watched any good videos showing you how to do it. My advice? Zebco
