  1. I have a new 7'4 Mojo Composite Cranking Rod and am really struggling with it. That extra 4 inches over anything I'm using is causing me fits. Don't know if I'll wind up keeping it
  2. Man..this thread has it ALL! Beautiful older stuff. Some testy banter. Fish what you like and are comfortable with. I use spinning reels for the light stuff and BC's for everything else. Works for me. ps...I haven't been very good with a spinning reel before this spring so I decided to take ONLY spinning reels with me for the first month or so. Now I can cast one pretty accurately. Gotta work at whatever you want to be better at.
  3. You guys are all styling! I'm guessing you could my fishing look, "Woke up under a bridge" chic
  4. This is NOT my original idea. I think someone else posted a picture like this on here and I had the same thought. Well...duh! probably one of the best tips I've ever got on here
  5. A different term for "that friend" is "moron".
  6. Now THAT'S what I'm talking about!
  7. SOB's.......now I got something else to buy. I got a new Cranking Rod this year and thought I was good to go with cranks. Guess I was wrong. *sigh*
  8. When me and my buddy are fishing we pretty much have an open tackle box policy. If he has something I'd like to try, I'll use it and vice versa. Only rule...owner gets first dibs. If I want to use something, I say so. If he was getting ready to tie it on..he says so and vice versa. We don't keep anything and we don't worry about lost lures...although we do try to get them back and we do replace for the most part. Plastics do NOT count
  9. 9.3 LMB. Doesn't matter where I caught it.
  10. I know you didn't mean it that way, I was just making a point. I was where you are now about 10 years ago. This is a terrific hobby and once you get "hooked" (HA!) it 's hard to be patient. I did a LOT of the things I cautioned you not to do. A lot of us do. and I didn't know about this place until just a couple of years ago. Finding this website and soaking it all on has boosted me a LOT further along than I was. The only way this sport can be learned (in my opinion) is to listen to obviously knowledgeable people and then adapt what they tell you to YOUR situation. But first you need the basics. Knots, Texas rigging, etc. It's not a race.....hopefully you and I both will enjoy this hobby for a very long time!! There ya go!! When you do it right, they'll let you know!!
  11. I know this will SEEM like a smart a*s answer but it isn't meant to be. What you are asking is....."Can you guys tell me all the knowledge you've picked up from years and years of experience so that I can be proficient immediately?" The answer is no. Nor do you really want someone to give you that knowledge...not to mention that it's basically impossible. In my opinion, it needs to be earned to truly enjoy what, for me, will be a lifelong hobby. The best thing you've done so far? Finding this website. Virtually every single question you may have at this point is answered somewhere on this website. Spend this year becoming good at 1 or two things. Get really good at Texas rigging plastics...both with a weight and weightless. Get really good at tying knots. Get a couple of spinner baits. Get a couple of topwater options (this is very fun!!) DON'T go out and spend $10k on every single crank and jerk and special technique item out there. Throw that enthusiasm into LEARNING and reading and watching and just fishing. I...and everyone else on here...promises you that things will click and, as someone mentioned above, when it does...it's the best thing in the whole world. Tight lines and good luck, Young Padawan!
  12. I like the BPS better than the Strike King. Better action and run truer. Just my opinion.
  13. I been tearing it up in stained water this spring with bubblegum
  14. Wow......I was peeved when I lost a new Warpig on the second cast. Some of you guys are downright dangerous. I know where that warpig is.....I WILL have it back
  15. Hollow Body?
  16. Thank you!! I see all these "new" underspins and all the hype and how much these cost and I then I tie on a 1/4 or 3/8 Thumper and laugh. Bought a bunch from Northland a few years ago and ain't found much they can't catch.
  17. Got 2 PQ's and and a Signature. I like the Sig. I LOVE the PQ's. One of the PQ's has been in service for 5 years with marginal care
  18. I don't know about "strongly held beliefs" about one or the other. Fish with what you like and are comfortable with. I'm a hand switcher. I cast right, switch hands...reel right. Weirdly, I flip and pitch better with my left hand but can't cast worth a darn with it. I also can't set hooks that well with my right hand even thought I'm RH dominant. The good thing is...who cares? They make all kinds of gear to suit just about anyone
  19. This is one of those questions that really show the differences in the generations of fishermen. Most of us older guys (I'm 48) prefer to watch videos that teach stuff. No music...camera not bouncing around, etc. Younger guys....completely different. Loud fast music, crazy camera angles, lots of action. The good news is that there is plenty of all types for everyone out there. Watch what you like and have fun!
  20. Don't be a square, Daddy-o. They're XTREME!!!
  21. Funny...this is how I figured out that I was actually getting better as a bass fisherman. That I wasn't just blindly throwing stuff and hoping for the best anymore...when getting skunked became more of a rarity than not. If I'm beating the banks for an hour I don't really care or even count that as getting skunked. If I'm in my boat for the day, I can't remember the last time I got skunked.
  22. I did. Nope.
