  1. Not a fan. The weed guard causes more problems than it solves. Now I, too, use a Gammy octopus hook and don't worry about it being weedless.
  2. I am NOT a patient man. I force myself to be patient when dealing with children or the elderly. Unless I'm bass fishing. I do not run and gun. I will fish a very small area for hours and work cover/structure until I KNOW it's fished out. I'm NOT in a hurry. Why? Because that is the time for me to slow down. To not be thinking about work or problems of life. It generally takes me about an hour of fishing time to get in that zone. When I get to the lake, I generally start off fishing "angry". Throwing a lure at every tree or stump. Reeling waaaay too fast...moving from place to place. THINKING about the next lure I'm going to throw. After a while of this (when I rarely catch anything) I slow down.....I STOP thinking...and just start reacting to the conditions I'm given. THAT is when the fish start coming and I'm enjoying life...and being very very patient.
  3. The Carbonlites are very bad about tip wrap. I love my Carbonlite but I had to learn how to fish it to minimize this
  4. PPS8 is the only braid i've EVER used. Love it and never saw any reason to try anything else. Is there better braid? Don't know. Don't really care
  5. I'm surprised that no one mentioned a lipless crank. (At least what I saw). A Treble hooked lure in the weeds? *GASP* Absolutely. If you have any kind of area between the water surface and the grass below, chuck a trap out there and burn across the top of that grass. Let it even flutter down into it and RIP it out of there. This is NOT a finesse technique...lol...but man does it catch some hogs
  6. I totally understand the idea behind using a more powerful "Slower" reel but I frog in some HEAVY stuff and I want those fish out of there FAST. Getting them out of the slop is, to me, more of the job of the rod than the reel. Once I get them up and out of the slop, I want those babies skiing into my boat. PLUS, I lost a PB when she switched directions on me and came at me after pulling out my locked down drag for a ways. Reel wasn't fast enough to take out the slack in time and she jumped and spit the hook. That was with a 5.4:1. Now I use a 7.1:1 and would like to go 9.
  7. Make all you videos 45 seconds long. Colt's 45
  8. Finn? Does he have a brother named Gill? Congrats, Brother! Awesome!
  9. I've been called a lot of things by females in my time. My favorite is and will always be, "Daddy".
  10. Well......Looking out the window right now at the snow flying and ice covered roads. Glad to be safe and warm but going stir crazy. Only so many times I can chase the wife around the house. Think I will tear down an old BPS PQ I got and see if it's worth salvaging
  11. Well.....I got 2 girls. And without trying to sound like a bad ass, I'm 6'1" and about 290. Some fat, yes, but not all. I have a 60" chest and a fairly surly disposition. I cannot remember the last time another man challenged me in anger and when I've been introduced to young men that were interested in my girls, all I ever saw was the draining away of color from their faces and usually a *gulp* in their throats. I never really found the need to actually tell any young man of the kind of damage I could do him.....he could see it my body and eyes. Your friend is a moron. I should also note that I am of Italian descent and all my kids friends have always made the assumption that I am in the Mafia. I live in Northern Missouri, for God's sake, but I never discouraged those rumors. My daughters, of course, loved it because they didn't really ever need to be afraid of any kid. lol
  12. There is nothing you can do other than to continue to love him. I am an alcoholic/drug addict. Been clean and sober for 14 years. There wasn't a person on this planet that could have gotten me sober. I had to do it myself with the help of OTHER alkys/drug addicts. I had to decide whether to be a person that wasn't going to live very long and die in the gutter or be a Father/Productive member of society. I chose well. Some don't. Getting sober was by far the hardest thing I've ever done but holy moly was it worth it. There is NOTHING you can do to convince him to get clean. Stop trying. Doesn't mean you should stop loving him, it just means don't bug him, don't enable him, don't "help" him if he doesn't want it. If the addiction feels threatened by you, he will cut you out of his life. What I am telling you is a very hard thing to do but you have to cut him loose. Hopefully he will hit bottom and that bottom doesn't kill him. It sounds very harsh but that's the way it is. I've known a lot of people that only stopped at death. I've also known MORE people that hit bottom and then stopped digging that hole and found their way into the light. and that light is a glorious place to be. Now if I can only find a bait monkey 12 step program. I wish you luck and peace
  13. I resemble that remark
  14. If only we had some sort of electronic device where you could type in something like "How to make wooden lures book" and have it give you the answers. What a world that would be. I suspect if we had something like that, it would give you DOZENS of answers and you could find specifically what you are looking for.
  15. God Speed, John Glenn. *#&% 2016. This year needs to DIE
  16. Found the most productive bait I've ever had in a bargain bin. Lou's Special Netbait BK Tubes. Now I'm struggling to find more

  19. Too bad it's a lefty.....I've been looking for a reel with that "Not Line Twist" feature. Oh well...maybe I can get one from Diawano
  20. Nothing better. Years ago I found a Mepps Comet Mino and caught my first LMB on it. That got me hooked on this hobby

In case you haven't figured it out, yet.......they are all good. I love the Scumfrogs. They also happen to be the cheapest of all the ones listed..BUT,,,,,,I also throw Booyah AND LiveTarget. Find the ones you like and throw them. They all have subtle differences and you'll find the ones you like for your applications. Example......the Scumfrogs are best in HEAVY muck. They are not a good finesse frog. They are big and bulky but that makes them great in the muck. Plus, they land with a *SPLAT* sound that really brings em in. Most of the time, I will throw onto some matted muck..let it splat down and let it sit for a bit. Then twitch it. 9 times out of ten, that's when it gets slammed. I have also found the Scums to be very durable. You'll lose the eyes quickly but it doesn't matter. I buy a bunch of them only because I lose them to stumps and such. I think in all the years I've thrown them, I absolutely worn out exactly 2 of them. I WOULD STAY AWAY from the BPS Kermy Frogs. They are garbage.
  22. My money is on Cuba
  23. Xcalibur xrk50. Best lipless made
  24. Just out of curiosity...How old are you? As a 48 year old man, I...A.) don't give 2 tin sh*ts what others think of my gear and would not allow others to mess with it, and B.) Would not allow other people to ruin my experience. As someone above me has said......that time is MY time. Wanna be a pr*ck? Do it somewhere else
