Strike King Rage Tail Menace twin tail grub
I fish them t-rigged and cast them for river smallmouth. Menace grubs are one of my go-to baits.

In-Fisherman Magazine for $6. Wow.
I haven't read a paper book since I bought my first Kindle years ago, but I still enjoy reading a paper magazine while sitting on my throne at home. Through a couple school fundraisers in the last year I've received Bassmaster Magazine, In-Fisherman, Field and Stream and Outdoor Life (I think). I really enjoy Bassmaster and In-Fisherman.

Need some newbie advice
IMO, your older fisherman gave you great advice. Use the knot you can tie perfectly and you have confidence in. For me that's the Trilene knot.

Layering Socks
Thank you for posting the link to this article RW. I found it very timely as I just purchased my first pair of breathable waders in October and my feet stayed warm until the water temp dipped below 50 degrees. Now with the water at 38 degrees I can't stand in the water very long before I have to get out and try to warm my feet up. Yup, you guessed it! I'm wearing COTTON socks under my wool socks.

Best River Lures?
Welcome to Bass Resource MCF! There have already been lots of great river smallmouth baits mentioned and I use most of them. (Strike King Menace Grub is definitely one of my go-to smallmouth river baits!!!!!!) I'll add a 3"-5" soft paddletail swimbait. And a rubber-skirted jig with craw trailer.

Have You Ever Forced Yourself To Reel Opposite Hand?
These threads are always interesting. I reel a spinning reel with my left hand and a baitcast reel with my right hand. I injured my right arm in 2015 and couldn't hold a rod in my right hand. I tried holding a spinning rod in my left and reeling with my right and absolutely couldn't do it. So until my right arm healed I used a baitcaster, holding it in my left and reeling with my right. Exactly what I COULDN'T do with a spinning rod. Weird.......

New member from Maryland
I just discovered the rocks that go across the river down from Antietam Creek this summer. I caught some fish below the rocks either in calm water near the bank or in the swifter water, but I caught the most fish above the rocks. Smallies and walleyes, no muskies though. Last time I fished there was the 3rd week of October. As the water got colder I caught less and less fish. I love that spot though. Through the winter I mostly fish at dam 4 for walleyes.

I generally fish between Shepherdstown and Dam 5. No boat so I'm wading or bank fishing. I've caught 4 musky this year, the biggest about 24" and the rest about 18". One below dam 5, one in Williamsport in front of power plant, 2 below dam 4. No giants I know, but fun as they are not a common catch for me (I never fish for them intentionally). My biggest was a 40" musky below dam 5 back in August 2014. On a ML spinning rod. It was a 10-minute fight with several jumps when I first hooked her. Too much fun!! What section of the river do you fish?

Ice Fishing Jig Tippin
Hmmmm. I don't ice fish, but watch way too many fishing shows on TV. A 1" Gulp minnow seems to be a popular artificial bait. If you decide to use live bait wax worms are the bait of choice for panfish.

Buck Splizzors
The Strike King company is masterful at marketing but I don't think even they can move a lot of this product...

Best paddletail swimbaits
Wow, there are SO many choices when it comes to soft paddletail swimbaits and I really don't have a favorite because I've caught fish on every brand/model that I've tried. I always have one tied on.

Learning How To Walleye Fish
Yup! I catch them in a river and really enjoy the fight, but I'm catching them on lighter-powered rods and not power-reeling them in skiing them across the water.

WHATS YOUR FAVORITE REEL OR ROD
These are the ones I would jump out of the boat to save... Baitcasting combo: G. Loomis NRX MBR 842c / Abu Garcia Revo LTX Spinning combo: G. Loomis GLX WPJR821s / Shimano Stradic CI4+ 3000

How many days have you been out fishing this year?
I would guess 80+ days so far this year and another 6-8 days before years end. The only thing I know for sure is that I didn't fish as many days as I would have liked to fish!!!!!

Best knot for Braid to Fluoro?
You'll get lots of different answers, but for me it's the uni-to-uni knot. Very simple and quick to tie and also very reliable. I don't have a boat but I tie this knot while standing waist deep in the middle of the river.

Different lines need different knots
I use the Trilene knot for every line type (braid, fluoro, mono) and have no issues.

Megastrike with no scent?
The original Megastrike fish attractrant does not have a noticeable odor. Your tube is not defective.
-
What hooks do you use?
For plastics I mainly use the Owner Twistlock LIGHT hooks in 2/0 and 3/0. I will sometimes use a Gamakatsu Skip Gap hook as well.

Never Fished w/ a Guide
Very cool, good luck and let us know how you do. I've never used a guide out there but my daughter lives near Phoenix and while visiting her in March I bank fished at Saguaro Lake and caught a couple LM from the shore. Beautiful lake with crystal clear water!

Never Fished w/ a Guide
Good luck. If you haven't found it already, you may want to watch the fishing show "Fishing with Johnny Johnson". It's on Comcast Sportsnet AZ. He only fishes lakes in AZ and is a local tournament fisherman and guide with Arizona Fishing Guides.

Rumors
And @Raider Nation Fisher is a closet Denver Broncos fan. Literally. He has a locked closet in his house full of Broncos memorabilia which he fondles in the dark of night by candlelight.

How many people have fished with other people on Bass Resource?
This was a very timely thread Glenn! Tomorrow will be the first time for me to fish with a Bass Resource member. @Aisu and I are wading the Upper Potomac River to see if we can catch a couple walleyes. (Er, I mean bass...)
