  1. That sounds similar to a stretch of river I fish. Right now the water is at a season low (for a mile stretch I can walk all the way across the river and it's about 150 yards wide), it's flowing slow, the deepest areas are only about 3 feet, it's crystal clear, water temp is low 70s and cooling. Last weekend I caught fish everywhere from a foot deep to 3 feet, slow moving and faster moving water. But the better fish came out of slower "deeper" water. I couldn't put down an 1/8 ounce SK Bitsy Bug jig with Baby Rage Craw trailer. For a faster presentation I caught some fish on a Keitech Swing Impact as well. I'm so excited to get back out there tomorrow I can barely stand it. Good luck tomorrow morning!
  2. I'm trying, really I am but it's hard after so many years. I used to be the one trying to keep my dad optimistic. Now my son is the one trying to do the same for me. Overall I'm excited about all the offseason changes - new GM, new coaching staff, new offense, new defense, lots of new players. But at 0-2 with Cutler out, Alshon out, and facing a winless Seattle in their stadium with the 12th man, we are going to need a miracle this week. But I'll be in front of my TV as usual cheering them on. BEAR DOWN!!!!
  3. Mow the lawn? No way Jose, I'm going fishing!!!!!!! I can get (losing) score updates on my phone in between fish... Especially this Sunday. A pi$$ed off Seahawks team at home with Kam Chancellor back? Not good.
  4. I hear ya BigBites1. At 0-2 with no wins in sight I may have some unexpected free time on Sunday afternoons for fishing....... BEAR DOWN!!!!!!
  5. Welcome to BR!! Are you a Bears fan?
  6. I fished the 24# Gliss on a spinning rod for about 8 hours over this past weekend. My initial impression is "I really like this line!". First thing I noticed was how thin it is. I've been using 10# Sufix 832 for the past couple years and ordered the 24# Gliss because the listed diameters were similar. The Gliss seems even thinner. Second thing I noticed was how easily it casts. The package says something about longer casts and they aren't kidding. I used the recommended uni-to-uni to join my fluoro leader and had zero problems with it. I had a catfish pulling drag like crazy on Sunday morning and all was good. I didn't notice any fraying yet, but I only used it for 8 hours and always tie on a leader. Time will tell. I tried a spool of Nanofil last year and my biggest complaint was it started to fray really bad just from running through the guides on my rod. My only complaint (not really a complaint) is that I could only get this line in green from TW. It's SO thin that it's hard to see, in fact line watching was completely out of the question. I may as well have had my eyes closed. I may get it in yellow or (gasp!) pink next time to "see" if it's more visible. So far so good!!!!!!
  7. Welcome to BR Greg! I live 12 hours away, but spend a week fishing KY Lake every summer. Can't wait for next year!
  8. I primarily fish a shallow river for smallmouth with bottom contact baits (finesse jigs, t-rigged plastics and light jig heads/plastics). If I had answered this 6 months ago my favorite setup would have been 6'10" MLXF spinning rod with 10# braid and 8# fluoro leader. In April I had a roller-skating accident and hurt my right arm, and I could no longer hold a spinning rod in my right hand. I tried holding my spinning rod in my left hand and reeling with my right but it felt unnatural. So... I started using a 7'5" MHXF baitcast rod with a right-hand reel that allowed me to hold the rod with my left hand (good arm) spooled with 12# fluoro. My arm has been healed up for months but I rarely grab my spinning rod any more, I'm just having too much fun with the baitcast rod to put it down!! BUT the MH power is overkill for the size baits I'm using, so I'm thinking about buying a M power baitcast rod this winter.
  9. ^^ Nailed it. 30 years ago I always back-reeled when fighting a fish. Today I let the drag do the work for me.
  10. This question was answered for you earlier: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/163173-baitcaster-160-or-less/
  11. I just bought a spool of 24# for my spinning rod during the TW Labor Day sale, it delivers this Thursday. I always use an 8# fluoro leader to hopefully the fraying issues some guys have seen won't affect me. I should have an idea of how well it's working and lasting in about a month. I'm very excite!!
  12. That's a bummer man. I didn't think Sirius/XM was worth paying for when I DIDN'T have it. Now I can't imagine riding in a car without it. Might be time to upgrade.
  13. IMO you can't go wrong with a Stradic CI4+. I'm comparing apples to oranges here, but I have a CI4+ 3000 (same frame as 2500 just slightly bigger spool) on a GLX 821s and the balance is perfect for me. Like I said, apples to oranges because my rod is 3" shorter so take my opinion FWIW...
  14. I haven't used the Fish Sticks product, sorry. I have been using Megastrike since May and I like it, but it DOES get runny when it gets hot.
  15. Welcome to the forums! The member you are referring to is actually SIR Snookalot. I believe Glenn May knighted him..... ha-ha
  16. Why do Packer fans always have to resort to taking a shot at my Beloved Chicago Bears? Sheesh!!! We'll be lucky to finish 8-8 this season...
  17. Ah! I hadn't thought about checking MD. I wouldn't mind traveling to Deep Creek for tournaments, just looking for club meetings to be closer to home. Unfortunately "close to home" means the Upper Potomac or the WV part of the Shenandoah. Probably explains why there are no bass clubs around here, no lakes in the region.
  18. Thanks A-Jay. I must have missed the part about using a uni-to-uni for main line to leader connection. Couple more weeks and I'll be able to order some Gliss line for my spinning rod. I'm very excited to try it out!
  19. Welcome to the forums, lots of great people and knowledge on this site. 1) Jig 2) 4" or 5" stickworm 3) 4" or 5" paddle-tail swimbait
  20. Nope, legally I can't. I live in WV so I have a WV resident fishing license. I can fish in the Potomac from a MD shore, but I can't fish the Conococheague because it is wholly in MD and I would need a MD license.
  21. Welcome to BR Pat! Lots of great people and info to be found here. As the crow flies I live about 2 miles from the Upper Potomac near Williamsport, MD and if the river level is safe I wade the river in search of smallmouth every weekend. Most of them aren't giants but they sure are fun!
  22. Quick question. Has anyone used a uni-to-uni with this line to connect a fluorocarbon leader? I can tie this knot in my sleep and would like to hear feedback on how well it worked. TIA
  23. I'm with you Josh. And if I'm misinterpreting your argument the fault lies with me. I watch and love Bill Dance's show for entertainment and educational purposes. I don't believe if I use the same Quantum rod and reel/Hi Seas line/Gamakatsu hook/BPS plastic/BooyahBanditGarminRangerMercury etc. etc. etc. that I will also catch giant bass like he does. In fact, I don't use any of the same gear he does. AND he never says you will catch giant bass if you use what he uses. It's entertaining because who doesn't like to see big bass? And I find it educational because while each show may be centered around a certain bait he always breaks down where he is finding fish and explains why the bait and presentation is a good choice for that situation. That's what I get out of it.
  24. PREACH!! The OPs original question was "What hook was Bill Dance using?" Amazing how quickly that spiraled into "Bill Dance is a cheater!" And the OP never did get his question answered...
