  1. In my case, that's a really stupid question. A better question would be- Do I ever NOT go overboard with lures? Last month there was a boat show in the area that I had to check out. When I walked in I figured I would get maybe 10-15 lures tops!! I spent close to $400.00 bucks on lures. Mostly Rapalas and Lucky craft. I should be stocked up atleast for a month or two. When I am beating the bank, I also have about a 60lb tackle bag, BUT I only take it to tournaments. I have another few small tackle bags that I use depending on where I am going to fish. Walmart has a small Okechobee bag with 2 boxes that is a good size to fill and not be aching after 10 minutes. That's mostly what I use. Leave your big bag at home and pick a small variety of lures you need work on. Take em out and learn em. You can also take your big bag and leave it in your vehicle and when you get to the lake, figure out based on the conditions, what you'll need to stock in your small bag.
  2. Living in SW PA sucks during the winter since all the lakes freeze over. This past week has seen daytime highs in the 50's to 60's thus melting the ice on the smaller lakes, stained to muddy water lakes, and the shallows of all the rest. Today I had a chance to fish for several hours and hit a small pond I pass by frequently while working. I rigged up a drop shot rig with a case plastics "Jack's worm" in watermelonseed but instead of a drop shot weight, I used a 1/4 oz black with a white stripe bucktail jig. On the second cast I finally did it, I caught my fisrt LM bass of 2008!!! And she bit the bucktail. She was a beaut too. I didn't have a scale or a camera, but as a rough guess I'd say she was around 3 pounds, + or -. Hopefully this first LM is just the beginning of a great year to come.
  3. I have only caught one bowfin.....during a tournament.....and on a tube. That fish I caught did not fight hard. It flailed it's tail around, and felt like I was pulling in a lop-sided stick. When I got it to the boat I was dumbfounded at this prehistoric looking fish, not knowing at the time what it was. The boat owner told me I could lip it but I ain't that stupid. I pulled out the pliers and slid the fish off the hook without even touching it.
  4. I used to take them out of the bags and put them in the boxes, but I quit doing that because my tackle bag only allows the boxes to stand vertically, so the plastics would get bent and I found it aggrevating to have to dig threw them all trying to find a straight one to fish with. Now I have a couple Plano Plano® 3731 Bulk Storage Boxs that I can put whatever bags I need into. In my experience, keeping them in the bag keeps them nice and straight. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&partNumber=1552&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults

  6. Although it aggrevates me to no end, I usually pick-up and find another spot. Like you stated, "it's a whole lake full of fish". In my experience though, it is almost always trout fishermen who jump on my spot. What really bugs me is when I'm fishing a tournament and a local "pleasure boater" goes between me and the shore where I am fishing. Either doing it on purpose just to be rude, or they are totally oblivious as to what they're doing. Last summer we had a guy in a pontoon boat motor between me and the shore with 4 BIG people on board. Knowing the water was only a foot and a half deep there we knew exactly what was going to happen and sure enough......they got stuck. I just looked at them and shook my head.
  7. Great to hear!!! I love KVD line conditioner and use it alot. Welcome to the site!!
  8. I belong to the Holiday Park Bass Busters bassed out of Plum boro Pa. Plum is located about 15 miles east of Pittsburgh. We are currently in need of a few more boat owners, and as far as I know we do not have room for any riders/co anglers at this time. If your interested, PM me and I can send you our president's phone #.
  9. Every single night. It isn't always bass either. Once I had a dream I caught a marlin out of a small pond I fish once in a while.
  10. Im not positive but I think that first grill has a hemi.
  11. I have a good 15 of the Heddon Spittin Image lures. They have a different action than sammies or spooks do. They have a rolling action as they walk. I like to throw them at night and want to fish a walking bait. They are also good when you want a little more action from a walking bait. You can pop them out of the water to make it look like scared forage to a bass. But the fancy stuff is tricky to do with any measure of consistancy.
  12. Not sure how you ended up getting them on, but I find if you place the tooth of the plier on the opposite side from the split, on the outside of the ring..... it is fairly simple. I picked up some last weekend and changed a bunch of lures. I didn't overbend any but I did have a few go flying into oblivion, never to be seen again.
  13. Jimmy Houston claims that when you go to kiss a bass, a female will pucker up. That's how you can tell the sex of a bass. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  14. Is Avid gone, or is this a mistake? http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1203868923
  15. My Dad wasn't a species specific fisherman. He had the same tackle box you described to a "T", and when he opened it, it smelled like a mixture of rust, mildew, and lead. He mostly had sinkers, hooks, and bobbers. That's the box behind him.
  16. I forgot all about the X-rap and the original floater. Whoops!! They are added now. I put up this poll because I have been building my jerkbait collection.
  17. I am certainly not meaning to start a brand war here, just wondering what has caught you the most fish? If you choose "other", please explain.
  18. Just curious since you usually hear jerkbaits are a clear water lure.

How would one go about getting a scale certified?
  20. Well, so much for that idea. Today the fuel pump and battery in my car went. No new reel for me :'( :'(
  21. Yup, everyone convinced me of what I already knew. I don't need a new spinning reel, but I do need a nice left handed baitcaster, or 2. And no, it's not going on a spinning rod. RW: I think this could be referred to as 3 pages to the wind. ;D ;D
  22. Well I figure I already have a ton of decent spinning reels, and I do everything on the list to reduce line twist, but it is just inevitable. Might as well get something I "really need", right?
  23. Thanks for the input, but I have decided to save a little more and get a nice left handed baitcaster for flipping and pitching. Sorry
