  1. So true KU, but unfortunatley I was no where near as involved in bass fishing as I am now. Plus I lived in the middle of the state and didn't have a way to get there. >
  2. I don't watch nor do I play golf. Too boring for me. But I do have to say that I live a mere 10 minutes away from the Oakmont country club. Why oh why couldn't that place be a huge lake where they hosted the Bassmasters classic instead?
  3. Too cool!! Nice job Russ!
  4. I take back what I said earlier. I went out this evening and caught alot of bass. All dinks, but I knew that going in. I just wanted to catch some fish.... I caught them all on an FLW finesse worm on a small light wire hook, rigged on a spinning reel with 6 # Sufix. I did miss what Avid meant. I caught around 10, but missed probably 20 more. I needed a bigger hook, but didn't feel like retieing.
  5. Dont feel bad Trev LakeBraddock, I didn't go because you posted this. I had this morning planned a couple weeks ago, just to see if it would pan out.
  6. You should have an "all of the above" option. Fish it whichever way conditions require and/or allow.
  7. Line, now I thought of that too. I was primarily throwing 10 # Sufix seige which for the conditions, should've been good. I never took much stock into the "best times" to fish, and now I know why. Neither me nor my buddy had one bite. On average when we meet and fish a small pond, we usually get atleast a couple fish each. Go figure! I'm going back out this evening for an hour or so before dark, and I'll fish untill around 9pm. We'll have to see if the fishing picks up later.
  8. Ya, so much for the "best" day to go fishing. I got up bright and early this morning at 4 a.m. I went to a small 17 acre pond and started off throwing a buzzbait. I had several slaps, but no bites. I switched to a smaller size, same thing....a couple slaps here and there but no bites. So then I tied on a pop-r, same thing....just a few slaps here and there, no bites. At this point I know the fish are there, and active. I tied on a custom crankbait and walked around a bit more, nada....tried a Mann's 1-, nada! What the hech happened to this "great" fishing? But I didn't let the fact I hadn't caught anything bother me. At 6:30a.m. I left and drove 15 minutes to another pond to meet up with a bass club buddy. We walked around a little pond that has a great population of 1-3lb LM and SM bass, as well as tons of blue gill, crappie, BIG carp, perch, catfish, and trout. I started at this new pond throwing a crank that runs 6-8 feet, and fishing it along a ledge that runs around this pond. 9 times out of 10 you can get a few nice bass doing this, but not today. I tried another crank, this one only a shallow diver, nada! All the while I'm thinking jig, or spinnerbait while I'm throwing the cranks, but my buddy is throwing just those lures. Also with out one single bite. At this point we're 1/2 way around this pond with not one fish to show for. I had also been fishing for about 2 hours at this point. So I figure slow down and tie on a texas rigged blk neon tube and start targeting laydowns that sit on and near the ledge. I fished that jig another 30 minutes with not one bite what so ever before I tyied on a small grub on a 1/8 oz jig head. I ended the morning with a poppin scum frog, that got several slaps, but no takers. Not one fish the whole morning! What happenned to the super great fishing?
  9. Some of the guys here used to have one. Not sure if they still do or not though. Talk to Troutfisher, Bucketmouth, or maybe Low Budget Hookers. They'll help you out.
  10. What does Mega Strike smell like? Rotting fish, shad enzymes, ben-gay? I might like to try it, depending on what it smells like. I don't want to be fishing all day smelling like anchovie paste. nasty..... :-? Nice fish too!
  11. It's stuff like that that makes being out in nature all the more amazing. Nice photo!!!
  12. Looks like it has a white belly. You'll catch fish on it as long as you present it correctly.

  14. Cache Custom Lures The search for quality lures often leaves the serious angler's head spinning. Cache custom lures offers a wide variety of soft plastics that simply out fish the competition. The products are x-tra soft, contain x-tra salt, and x-tra scent. As well as amino acids that seem to turn the fish on when they just won't bite other plastics. I recently took to testing a small variety of Cache Custom lures' plastics, which would include the Diamond back worm, the X-treme paddle tail grub, the Thunder frog, and one of the companies newest products, the Brush Bug. Cache's plastics are softer than the competition's plastics which leads to a better hook-up ratio per strike, along with more action in the water. Thunder frog- This has got to be my favorite topwater frog of all time! The Thunder frog has large feet that have an unmatched thumping action on the retrieve, calling in the biggest bass in the area. They just can't seem to leave this frog alone! A hook slot makes for less hang-ups, and I feel provides better hook-ups. Which as we all know is what counts. The plastic's density allows the frog to float at rest for a couple seconds, and then the frog begins to sink, allowing you to pause over holes in the weeds, letting the frog sink slowly into the best big bass habitats. When the fish smash this lure, the frog moves up and out of the way of the hook set, which virtually guarantees a good hook-up. Brush Bug- If your looking for a super soft creature type bait, this is your lure! The lure has a ribbed body that provides subtle vibration, along with scent dispersion that the fish rarely pass up. I caught many bass on the Brush bug that at the same time would not bite a similar plastic from the competition. I had that scenario play out several times both on the local rivers, as well as the local lakes. The Brush bug has a scent dispersion like no other. I actually watched fish follow the bait and seemingly taste the scent trail before literally attacking the Brush bug. The Brush bug can also be used as a trailer on jigs. I simply cut part of the lure off, and threaded it onto a jig. It adds a realistic craw profile to jigs that the fish love! The Brush bug is also great for fliping or pitching instead of your normal pitching baits, such as a worm. Diamond back worm- This worm is excellent for drop shot rigging, as well as simply finesse fishing. You are only limited by your imagination on ways to rig this worm. I used and caught fish with this worm by drop shotting, shakey head, texas rigging, and carolina rigging. I also caught a couple while wacky rigging the Diamond back worm. This past winter, when the bite was tough at best, I caught a few on a weightless t-rigged Diamond back worm, when no other plastics worked! X-treme Paddle tail grub- These grubs are SOFT!! I liked the Paddle tail grub as a trailer on a plain ballhead jig. I also used it on the Mann's stone jig with great results. The soft supple plastic translates to more action in the water than your average plastics. These grubs worked great for smallmouth in the Allegheny river, as well as a couple local lakes that have had smallmouth bass transplanted in to them. If you cut the tail up to the grub, it provides a bit more action that simulates a small crawfish. The technique was killer on the rivers since crayfish are usually river smallmouths' main forage. Cache Custom lures offers a great variety of soft plastic lures, along with jigs and jig heads that work best along with the companies' plastics. The company is home grown which I believe translates into a better consistency, and higher quality control than the high production lines of the big name companies. The plastics are competitively priced allowing for the average angler to easily afford Cache's line of lures. Which is something I look for in lures. If you want a great product for a great price, Cache Custom lures is the go-to company for plastic lures. I was definitely impressed with the products along with the great customer service. Next time your looking for a company that produces quality baits, contact Kent at Cache Custom lures. He nor his products will let you down. www.cachecustomlures.com It should be noted I am not sponsored or affiliated with Cache Custom Lures.
  15. ACTION ALERT TO ALL MEMBERS Wednesday, June 06, 2007 Potentially Catastrophic court ruling will effect every US Boater Please Contact Your Legislators Potentially Catastrophic court ruling will effect every US Boater....ACTION ALERT...contact your legislators. A recent court ruling goes wrong and if it is NOT corrected will require every boat on us waters to obtain a EPA permit estimated to range from 800.00 to 2000.00 per vessel! If it is not overturned it will become law by September of this year. ACT NOW. A recent court ruling targeting Ballast water on big ships to help control invasive species (which is needed) goes "outside the lines" and strikes down the existing exemption for "other" US vessels. Attached you will find a link to an new interview done by Boattest.com and the President of the NMMA (National Marine Manufacturers Association) Thom Dammrich that further explains it all. http://www.boattest.com/nmma.aspx Please pass along through your system and to all clubs. Tell that to say that TBF opposes the courts ruling and supports "The Recreational Boating Act of 2007" http://www.washingtonwatch.com/bills/show/110_HR_2550.html

  17. Get yourself a GOOD pair of split ring pliers. Rapala makes a great quality set.
  18. Remember there is more than one way to rig most plastics. If I'm using a tube and it rips one way, just flip the bait around so the hook goes through the opposite or "fresh" side of the plastic. With senkos, use the ones that ripped while fishing them texas rig'd, for wacky rig fishin'. You can also buy special glue that is specifically for repairing plastic baits. Or you can do the lighter method too. Some lures like a Paca craw will usually rip near the end or butt or the plastic. Cut off the ripped portion and use the plastic as a jig trailer.
  19. I gaurantee you that there are alot of really great places to fish within 40 minutes of your house. You just have to find them, or know people who know them. My lips are shut, so don't even ask. ;D
