  1. Congrats on the win bro!! Any consideration put towards fishing more tournaments?
  2. Coward is DAM right!! Along with the rest of the terrorist murderers!
  3. Anyone catch who won last night? Was it Claussen or Ducket??
  4. The first link goes to a map of all the launch ramps in Allegheny county. http://www.fish.state.pa.us/water/county/pfbcmaps/alle.htm The second link goes to the main page where you can look for spots all over the state. http://www.fish.state.pa.us/map_regionguide.htm Unfortunatley they are out of stock, but the 3rd link goes to the page where you can order the maps. http://www.fish.state.pa.us/promo/form/pubs_free.htm I'll see if I can scrounge up a map of the SW region. I had a bunch, but can't remember where I put them. If I can find one, I'll bring it tonight.
  5. I was sleeping in late and suddenly awoke with the urge to turn on the TV. As I did the news was covering the tragedy live. Just then the 2nd plane hit. I knew they would fall, and sure enough. I just remember thinking that I just watched thousands of people die, live. I was very sad. I went outside after the 2nd plane hit and watched a plane following an odd path with a W SW direction. I believe that plane was flight 93. Below is a link to some interesting stories about the Flight 93 memorial site and "ghosts". http://channels.isp.netscape.com/whatsnew/default.jsp?story=20070911-0842 Very sad day in history for sure.
  6. Not to brag or anything, but since September 1st until today I have gone fishing six times and caught a total of 59 largemouth and 2 blue gill. All on artificial lures I might add. You know, not to brag or anything, ha! To answer your question, nope!!
  7. I have caught channel catfish on spinnerbaits, and a crankbait, but never a senko. However, I did catch a 15 pound carp on a 4" YUM dinger, which is a senko knock-off.

Becareful Avid! Glad to hear you walked away. It could have been worse.
  9. Click on the link below and scroll down to Mass. There is a list of some of the bass clubs in your state. The only advice I can give to you.... When you join a club, don't expect to go in and whoop everyone's butt. Chances are that most of the folks have been fishing since you were just a baby, and maybe even before you were born. Pay attention to each person you fish with in the club. Learn from them, and master what the top anglers in the club do. In the club I belong to, most of the vetern members know good spots on each lake we fish. Most of them also only utilize a few techniques, but they have mastered those few very well. From this I have learned to find and use good lake maps so that when the boat owners ask me for input I can say where I would like to go. And I will also have a good idea of what to throw according to the calender period, and conditions, and feel confident in throwing those lures because the more I fish, the more versatial I become. Does that make sense? I was up at 4 am today, at the lake by 5 am, and just got home at 8pm. Im tired! Same thing tomorrow too. And always remember to have fun! http://bassresource.com/bassfish/bass_fishing_clubs.html
  10. A buddy gave me one of these to try out for him, yet I can't get the lure to do anything. If you use a fast retrieve, the whole lure "helicopters". The only thing I can do is slow roll it along the bottom. I tried several different plastics on the shank and the helicoptering continues. Anyone use these and have any tips?
  11. Last weekend I went to a fleamarket to scout for fishing stuff. I came across a guy selling a bunch of plastics. He wanted a buck for 6 packs, and guess what, he had some Yamamoto plastics, which I promptly snagged up. All 10 packs of em too! Mostly all senko's, but he also had a pack of 5" cut-tail worms. Later on when I got home, I noticed that the cut-tail pack seemed extra beefy, so I counted them. Instead of the normal 10 per pack, some how this pack had 20 worms. Woo-Hoo!! Sunday morning I went out to a local lake before sunup and was ready to catch some fish. I started off throwing some topwaters, nada. Tied on a crankbait, nada. Tried a tiny Strike king swimbait on a 1/8 oz jig head that rarely fails to catch fish, NADA!! I only had a limited amout of tackle with me and decided to try one of the cut-tail worms on a 3/0 ewg hook. With-in 20 minutes I had hooked into 6 LM bass. I was convinced at that point that maybe RW is onto something. At the flea market I got 3 packs of 3" senkos for shakey head fishin on the river for smallies, 3 packs of 4" senkos, and 3 packs of 5" senkos too. If you add that all up, that's around $60 dollars worth of Yamamoto plastics for less than $2.00!! Now talk about a deal!!!!
  12. This pic was taken when I was 5 or 6 years old. The caption on the back says it is my first fish. I don't think it is my first fish ever, but first for that day. Me and Dad fishin' Me and Dad again I took this last winter while shore fishing the Allegheny river. This is a good friend on Cascade lake in Idaho. He is a member of the forum too.
  13. I caught a frog once with a tube. I was pulling the tube out of the water and a frog jumed out and grabbed it and as it lifted into the air, he let go. I also caught a rock once, also on a tube. That thing put up one hell of a fight too! I also caught a snapping turtle one night on a senko.
  14. After returning home from work one evening, I heard the sound of a small animal screeching for it's life. I thought it was my cat torturing a small critter so I went out back to see what it was. All of the sudden one of the trees bordering our property started shaking and then I heard the most gut wrenching scary noise I have ever hear. It was definatley a cat......a BIG cat that was making that noise a house cat makes when it is mad, or if it encounters another cat that it doesn't want around. It literally sent chills threw my body, and I about froze up thinking I was going to get pounced on. I went inside, got the 12 gauge and a flashlight and went out to the tree. Whatever it was was gone. We talked to our neighbor who has kids, and he confirmed seeing and hearing the same thing in his yard a few days earlier. I believe whatever it was has since moved on, thankfully. I know for sure it was a big cat. Whether it was a mountain lion or a bobcat, remains to be unseen.
  15. Simply not true. The blanks used in the rods today are much more sensitive than they were only 10 years ago. I have fished with a guy who stricktly uses Loomis rods, and at times he was missing fish due to not detecting the bite. I was using a clearance bin $15 Quantum MH rod and was feeling every bite I was getting.
  16. I have noticed that more often than not, fish won't hit a worm or jig while your dragging it. You more often than not will get the bites as it sits still. Watch your line!! Watch your line!! WATCH YOUR LINE!!! As your dragging a bait across the bottom, you will feel rocks and logs that will feel similar to a bump, or the classic TAP. It is when you stop dragging the lure when you'll get bit. WATCH YOUR LINE!!! Now, keep in mind we're talking about dragging a lure on the bottom, not hopping a jig, worm, tube etc.... And like the others said....If it feels different, set the hook! and did I mention WATCH YOUR LINE!!! for twitches or sometimes it shoots off in one direction or the other too.
  17. Welcome to the forum EvilErnie! I have never heard this posted before, but I'm going to post it anyway, sorry folks. The main reason that successful anglers catch so many fish is because more often than not they are making many many more casts than the "average" angler. The more fish you get your lure in front of, the more fish your going to catch. It is all about the odds, just like gambling. But that comes after you can successfully add versatility to your game. For muddy water I like dark tubes, like a YUM black neon VK finesse tube for example. Also try "noisy" lures, or lures the fish can locate easy. A few "noisy" lures would include a dark spinnerbait with a colorado blade, a crankbait with a wide wobble, and maybe even a buzz bait. Read the articles on this site. "The science of bass fishing can be learned from books, but the art of bass fishing is learned by catching and missing fish."

I have fished with a guy in my Bass club who stricktly fishes Loomis rods. At one tourney he said he wasn't feeling the hits, but I felt every fish that bit that day. I was using a clearance sale Quantum rod that cost me $15.00. Blanks today are made much better than they were 20, 15, and even a mere 10 years ago. I simply can't see the benifits of spending more than say $50 bucks for a rod. If you concentrate and pay attention, you'll miss few fish. PERIOD!
  19. Here she is! She died well before weigh in, so that's why she looks odd. She was deep hooked and the fact she died IMO wasn't reversable.
  20. Watch when you buy those .99 cent 3X plastics at Gander. #1 Make sure the packs have the strike king 3X stickers on them, not "Bleeding bait" tubes. #2 Chech your receipt before you leave the store to make sure they only charged you .99 cents. I picked up a few packs and the stickers where wrong on the packs. I got charged $1.99 and the receipt had the plastics listed as "Bleeding bait" tubes. I didn't notice untill I was almost home and by then it was too late.
  21. HPBB- Sorry I left so quick, I wasn't sure of the way home so I was at the mercy of Glen who always leaves quick. Especially this tourney since he didn't catch any keepers. I got one smallie on a green pumpkin tube on a modified c-rid. I wanted to fish some humps off sixteen mile creek, but Pat didn't want/feel like running that far. If only he had.......... Pat just wanted to drift and drag all day, all day, all day. I was so tired by the end of the day I almost fell asleep on the way home a few times. The fish I weighed in was dead . I had deep hooked her really bad and she just lost too much blood to survive. I felt like crap because of that. But there really was not one thing I could have done about it.
  22. Thanks for the replies! This past weekend I caught a bigger smallie that was 3 pounds 2 ounces. I caught her in 32 feet of water up in Erie, dragging a tube on a special modified c-rig. She dashed for the bottom atleast 10 times before I got her in the boat. Since I have never fished that deep before, I didn't think she was a smallie because of the way she was fighting. No picture yet though.
  23. The sad thing is I haven't been able to fish with it yet. Hopefully later this evening. LBH- thanks for noticing. I have worn it at every tourney this year so far, and feel it helps for some reason.
  24. Thanks for clarifying Avid. 8-) Maybe I'll post a picture one day soon.
