first boat
A while back Low Budget Hookers said that when he was looking for his jon boat, while going around his neighborhood he would put a note on the doors of folks with old dead boats in the back yard. If I remember right, he had a few people call him to get rid of their boats. You could make a project out of it. Redo the boat to make it new again. The only real thing you'd have to buy would be a trolling motor. That is providing your dad has all the stuff you'll need to refurbish the boat. Another option to think about. Avid uses a canoe to fish from. They are alot less expensive than a big bass boat, or even a jon boat. Keep your eyes peeled on craigslist.com also. You can find some decent deals there too. Put the word out with friends and relatives that you are looking to get a boat for fishing. You may just get lucky and have someone call you one day wanting to get rid of a boat, and ask you if you want it. It happened to me, and now I have a real bass boat. Good luck, and keep us posted here on what you get.

"Better Bass Fishing the Dave Romeo way"
I done went and got it anyway. I should've waited, but I like any book about fishing that I can get my hands on. It only cost me $6.45 with shipping, so it isn't like I spent a bunch for it. Avid, thanks for the history lesson. The fact that he caught all those bass out of an 11 acre pond is pretty cool.

"Better Bass Fishing the Dave Romeo way"
The man caught 3001 bass in 77 days which is a world record. I am thinking about getting his book, but only if others have read it and can give me a review for it. I have to special order it since it is no longer in print, but I figure if the guy can catch that many bass in only 77 days, he could teach me alot. How is the book?

Matt Lures!!!
I agree JT. I haven't the budget to spend that much on a lure, but one day soon I will. The blue gill bait looks amazing! Looks very realistic, and well made. I might just have to set up accounts for Matt's lures at some of the tackle shops in the area.

SPELLING IS SOOOOOO OVER RATED !!!!!!!!!!!!
I love posts like this one. But, I'd like to ask a question. If someone contacts a few companies and they send you free product, and you use and like the product enough to recommend it to others, would that person be obligated to try and set up a couple accounts at local tackle shops for those companies that sent the free product?

Which Lucky Craft Lure for Christmas?
I would like a Sammy in American shad. That lure looks simply amazing, and since I love topwaters so much, I would love to get one someday. I have a 78SP in Nishiki, and have had it for a little over a week, and just got around to bringing myself to take it out of the package. Now actually using it is another story. ;D

Still don't get this dropshot thing
Sorry to hijack your thread avid, but my questions are along the same lines, and go together with the techniques being discussed. What type of hook is commonly used for drop shotting? I read that FINN-S-R uses a 1 owner hook. I started with a 1/0 Gammie hook, but recently picked up a pack of size 1 Drop Shot Gammie hooks. Does it make a difference? And how do you set the hook when drop shotting? I have yet to catch any bass with the D/S technique and I think maybe I am setting the hook wrong.

prescription sun glasses
I have an appointment this Saturday at the eye doctor for a new pair of glasses. Are you guys who are talking about prescription sunglasses talking about polarized lenses or not? I would like to get a pair of prescription polarized lenses, but not if the price is to steep. If no one gives a definative answer, I'll find out Saturday and report back.

Should jig colors match trailer color?
On several TV shows I have seen pro anglers that will match jigs with a different color trailer. I personally match the trailer color with the dominate color on the jigs skirt. What do you do? Match the colors, or offset the colors? and why?
-
Must jigs be paired with trailers
I hate to be the exception to the rule, or go against everyone else, but I have used rubber skirted bass jigs without trailers before, and had times when they worked better without a trailer than with one. Usually I was fishing weeds and would flip the jig into a small pocket and when the jig would stop on some weeds, I'd shake or jiggle it and the bass would hammer it.

Christmas at UPS
We get packages all the time at our family business and UPS is by far the fastest and friendliest delivery service that there is. Fed-Ex would come in 2nd and DHL comes in a very low 3rd. Point wise UPS would get a 10, Fed-Ex gets an 8, and DHL would get a 2, and that 2 is a slight exageration, by 2 points. We can order something on Monday, and know for a fact, the day it will arrive with the UPS guy. The only slightly bad thing I have to say about UPS is one of our fill in drivers is deathly afraid of dogs, and refuses to get within 10 feet of our door. We'll be working and hear someone outside, "hello, hello!" Then he will find sticks and throw them at our door untill we respond. It is kind of funny since our dog wouldn't hurt anyone. But I can understand his dilemma.

Hand guns
I agree with GMAN. The Smith airweight series handguns are feather light. You'll forget your wearing one after you get used to it.

Float N Fly jig
You can get painted jigheads from alot of stores, but you can get lead head jigs, and some of that powder stuff and paint your own. Even cheaper than buying them pre-painted. I don't know about those jig heads in your picture though, none of the places I know of have that particular head type.

Wiggle Warts anyone????
My first bass of 05 was caught on a Storm wiggle wart. Supposedly they are a good lure for lots of different fish. I know a few guys around here who swear by wiggle warts for walleye.
-
Float N Fly jig
I agree with Jim. I just started tying my own and it is very simple. Took me about 4 jigs worth of messups before I got the whole process right. You'll pay app 2-3 bucks (give or take) for that jig, but you can make your own for mere cents.

What Are Your Top 3 Favorite Topwaters?
1. pop-r any kind, doesn't matter 2. Zara puppy or next larger size 3. Jitterbug

Finally a Cold Water Bass
I got one today. I was throwing a 4 inch dinger from shore, at a small pond, and caught a LM about the same size. I think your post gave me a sliver of confidence that I needed. My first since late Sept. early Oct. Thanks jfowl32590!

Size matter?
Start small, go big, and if neither work, try a size in the middle. One is bound to work for you.

Jitterbugs- Do they rely work?
You can order them from Bass Pro: http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.SearchResults?cmid=TOP_SEARCH_GO or Cabelas: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0018746116359a&type=product&cmCat=search&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=Arbogast+Jitterbug&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=Arbogast+Jitterbug&noImage=0 Or..... Jitterbugs- Do they rely work?
ummmmm, you buy lures at 7-11? I'd go with an Arbogast jitterbug. The only one I can ever catch bass on is the smallest one. I'm not sure where you are located, but topwater lures for me atleast, aren't the #1 choice lure this time of year. It is too cold IMO. The jitterbug is almost an "idiot proof" lure. You just cast it out, and retrieve it at a steady pace so that it makes a bloop-bloop-bloop-bloop-bloop-bloop-bloop-bloop-bloop-bloop-bloop-bloop-bloop sound. Then after you get the hang of it, vary the retrieve by pausing your retrieve here and there, and twitching it like a pop-r. Of my favorite topwater lures, the jitterbug comes in around 2nd or 3rd.

Conflict! Doesn't it keep us guessing?!
I am still confused on the topic. I was fishing today at this small pond and was throwing a 4inch watermelon dinger along a ledge that the bass hold on. I had a 15inch LM bass take the dinger and when he got hooked, he took off like a bat outta hell. I started the day throwing a 3 inch dinger based on the small bait theory, and after walking most of the way around the pond, I replaced the 3 incher with a 5 inch dinger of the same color. I still didn't get any bites. So I went midway between the two, and tried a 4 inch dinger and finally got a bass. First bass since early October. It has been warm this past week here in PA, and was 50 today. Tomorrow is supposed to see a high of 60. I'm going back tomorrow to see if I can catch a couple more. I think that basic ideas can be followed for certain conditions, such as fishing slow this time of year, but you have to experiment with size to see what the bass really want, or are in the mood for. Just my opinion though.
