  1. Oh and thank you on the lic. info. Little things like that are good to know.
  2. I generally stay in Orlando. But I hear the type of fish you want in salt water depend on when and where you need to be. Salt water I am willing to travel to catch the right fish.
  3. So I am from Minnesota, but make regular trips down to Fl a lot. All of the times I have been down there I have still yet to fish a lake. Next year I have vowed to change that and looking for some information on fresh and salt water fishing. 1) do you need to have a license? (MN requires you to have one even if only for a day) 2) I would like to do some bass fishing, but wanted to know if anyone knows of a charter place to fresh water fish. 3) That and salt water. I have been mainly looking at Mahi Mahi and Sword fish, but wanted to know if there are any recommendations out there for a charter service. (I always see advertisement, but if I am going to spend a day fishing something that I have never done I want my money to be worth it.)
  4. Days Like that I go out and get ready, and get out there early. I use a weather app (Weatherbug) and monitor where the storms are. I never let rain deter the trip, and I actually carry ponchos just in case. Lightning is a different beast though. If my app says it is with in 15 miles or so I WILL NOT go out. I love fishing but want to live another day to do it.
  5. Good website and many of the tackle I use is on there for a decent price, But I think it still misses the too good to be true factor. I almost wonder if these are turny guys that get the reduced rate plus a percentage off for buying.
  6. Okay, so here is a two part question. I would consider myself an avid fisher. I fish at least once a week during the summer fishing season here in Minnesota. By no means am I a "Pro" or do tournaments. But how does one need to have to buy their lures in bulk constantly? Do you loose that many lures!?! I mean if I lose more than 2 lures on a trip it has been a bad day. With that said I am looking to find a cheap online source for my buying needs. I am looking to buy some swim jogs and I hear about people buying them in bulk for .30 when they cost $2.99 or more in store. So where does one go to find these kind of deals? I use tackle warehouse when they have better deals than my local Gander, but where are these online stores that I hear that you can buy plastics for pinnies on the dollar?!? I am only looking to buy in bulk because a couple of my friends and myself are looking to stock up.
  7. Getting into a spot only to find every other angler on the lake and their brother hogging the space. I find that one the most but the worst for me is others out on the lake. DO NOT cut in so close to my boat while I am fishing I can read the text on your shirt. And don't do this going 20mph. Nothing is worse than someone being rude on a boat (or Jetski) running close to your fishing area.
  8. Here is a video I have seen a time or two. Best fail at loading a boat ever.. Best yet it was by the police. https://video.search.yahoo.com/video/play;_ylt=A2KIo9TJInVTgnUAnsT7w8QF;_ylu=X3oDMTByZWc0dGJtBHNlYwNzcgRzbGsDdmlkBHZ0aWQDBGdwb3MDMQ--?p=Cops+Launch+A+Boat+With+Trailer&vid=86e95e54e8331b57c13e87f8e8fae068&l=2%3A35&turl=http%3A%2F%2Fts2.mm.bing.net%2Fth%3Fid%3DVN.608002494063379645%26pid%3D15.1&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.*%2Fvideo%2Fwatch%2F83764313%2F&***=Cops+Launch+A+Boat+With+Trailer&c=0&sigr=11g27fs82&sigt=10v0c9kmc&age=0&&tt=b
  9. Yeah I am heading out to Minnetonka on Musky opener. But looking for something that is just as fun to go for without the title the fish of 10,000 cast.. Lol Most lakes I know in my area you can pull a sold 25 inch, but I would like bigger.
  10. I am looking for some input from some local Minnesota monster hunters. Specifically northern. After a successful year with bass I am setting my sights on bigger. I am looking for lakes in the metro area and some great hot spots for northern 30 inches plus.
  11. Cabelas is the best. We have one here in Minnesota, but with the expansion of the Mall of America we are set to have our first BPS come to the state. I can't wait!
  12. For fishing, polarized for Sun, Amber for overcast. These two combos will allow you to see through the water better and see any bedded bass (assuming they are in clear to somewhat stained water). But if you only get one I would say a slight tint with polarization.
  13. I have a set of prescription sunglasses that I use. They are tinted and polarize, and the best thing ever. Here is something to keep in mind though. I spent $100 alone on each lens for polarization alone (not including the tinting which I think was $100 for both) Polarization plus tint are great for sunny days but you are going to have a hard time seeing bedded bass on overcast days. On overcast days wear the amber tinted glasses and you will be able to see better through the water. So my suggestion I think is wear contacts and have a set of both polarized and amber glasses.
  14. < These two bass in the pic Taken from Clear lake (Near Forest) one a 6.2lb 21in the other 6lb 20in Are you a catch-and-release or in it for the eating?
  15. I posted this already on another forum. But here are some of my best lakes. Clear lake (Near Forest) Great bass, walleye, tiger , northern fishing. (This is my best lake and sorry... no tips on hot spots for this lake) Eagle lake (Off 169 and 63rd) great lake for northern, musky, and small bass here and there. (Fish the rock piles and the shallows for bass) To many big toothy critters in the middle and sides. Frogs are great on this lake, and you can pull in some monster northerns in the shallows. I caught a 30 incher in 2 feet of water. Washburn (This is in outing) But I have pulled in several 5 and 6 lbs off this lake. (Also great walleye and northern) (If you want to take the trip up north for this lake let me know and I can give you some spots.) Golden lake in Circle pines. Fish from shore (West golden lake Rd, there is a small clearing in the houses, and you can fish from this spot.) (Or in a boat, but no inboard/outboard allowed) I have seen 6lbs pulled as well as 30+ in catfish and Northern. and reed area on this lake and you will find a 3+ lb bass hiding. Lake De Montrerville (Pine springs area.. Not a bad drive) (This is a catch and release only lake for bass) BUT HOLLY hidden gem. Great sport lake. I have fished this a couple times and found some nice monsters right off the landing (* This lake is a great lake so get there early. I say this because the launch only has around 10 spots. There are NO OTHER spots to part on the side of the road. I got there around 4:30 one morning and the spots were filled up before 6 am.) Of course you have your Forest Lake, White Bear, Minnatonka Lake, but I stay away from these bigger lakes and stick to the smaller ones) What I throw. Anything and everything. I like to stick to a white Northland spinner (With a narrow willow blade, NOT the Colorado style) With a white double tail grub as a trailer. But when this fails I switch to many of my other pieces of tackle. A 6in Carolina rigged worm, A Pink Meeps inline spinner, A Spro frog, or a football jig with a trailer to name a few. When you are looking for that monster and it isn't hitting what you are throwing, switch it up. Also the technique i like to use is throwing my spinner and letting it sink for a couple, and retrieve it. This gets what maybe off the bottoms attention, but I always see the strike on the top once it is near the boat. It is important before taking your lure out do a figure 8. I have gotten a lot of reluctant bass to hit on the swing around. Another suggestion get a hold of the DNR and ask for a Twin Cities Water Recreation fold out map. I got this handy map off one of the DNR officers at White Bear Lake. The map shows all the lakes in the cities area, and also list where the landing (If there is one) and white kind is it (Soft, concrete,)
  16. Right of 35W in forest lake. Across from Running Aces. Great lake for both bass and Walleye. I mainly fish it for Bass though. I have seen monster tigers pulled out of the lake. Take 35N to 97 (lake drive) If you don't eat it Golden in Circle Pines/Lexington is a great lake. Fish it from shore. I have seen 5 and 6lbs Large mouths pulled out. I have also seen a 31in Northers and 30in catfish pull out. If you go on it, it is no inboard/outboard allowed. So bring a small boat with a trolling or fish from the shore.
  17. Well if you can deal with the weather changes that range from the -20's (Down to -40's in some spots) in the winter to over 100 in the summer come up to Minnesota. You can find several great lakes to fish on, and a lot of them can be found within the Twin Cities alone. If you want to take a 2-4 hr trip up north you will find great deep cold water lakes for bass, Walleye, northern, and musky. If you want to fish in the winter knock yourself out. Ice fishing can be "Fun" Personally not my idea of fun when you sit on the ice jigging, but hey some others love it, Plus you can include the northern (or southern) part of the state for hunting. Great Deer, and bear hunting. Duck hunting is starting to migrate to the east towards the Dakotas. We also have wolf hunting here as well.
  18. We cant count ponds in Minnesota. I think lakes alone there are over 11k and if you include ponds (I cant remember the acreage required for each) you could add a couple more thousand. We also have lake international lakes, and the Mississippi river. (Some of the best small mouth actions) I just had to list my best. There are so many lakes (2 of which have made it into Bassmaster top 100 lakes (Minnatonka, and Leach I think it was)) I personally can not wait until my trip next year to Florida so I can do some deep water, or hit Okeechobee.
  19. I know we don't want to give up all the information such as your lucky spot, but how about we share this. What is your best lake in your state to pull out those monsters? Maybe a lucky lure combo. My lake Clear lake in Washington County MN Great lake, my brother in-law and myself each pulled in a 6lb in the same pocket (And have consistently pulled in bass over 4lbs) We used a White shad Northland Reed-Runner spinner (With a lone narrow willow blade, not the colorado blade) (Also a great lake for tiger musky) Now what about your best lake in your state?
  20. Yes it was. I got the reel for $30 and thought is was a good deal. The guy said it was his sons reel and he didn't like baitcasters. I checked the reel for any signs of ?... I did check the rotation of the spool and thought it looked good, but forgot to check the drag. Great suggestion and one that I should have thought of before. I am not what you call mechanically inclined and took it apart thinking the schematic on the website should be good enough… Long story and 2 hours later I got it put back together (with the help of taking apart my pro max and taking pictures just in case and comparing the two) I am not too sure what the problem was, but once I loosened the star drag and removed out the washers and click spring something seemed to loosen on it. I did end up taking it all apart and cleaning it out. Nothing else looked out of place or wrong (Such as a broken piece of plastic or a striped gear). Thanks for all the great advice, and I will surely continue to watch the forums.
  21. Thank you all for the reply. I will be looking at it this monring and taking it apart. Yeah I paid $30 on it and considering it is only a $60 reel to send it in alone is another $30. The schematics online look easy enough. I am sure it is an issue (Or hope) that it is dirty, and the other person doesn't take care of his gear. worse case looking online most of the parts in the drage area will only run a couple or dolars at most. So off I go to tare it apart.
  22. So I bought an Abu Garcia Silver Max online the other day. It looked like a great buy, and I am sure it still is, but I think it might have a problem. The drag doesn't seem to want to loosen up to much. What I guess I mean by this is, I have a pro max, and I can loosen the drag to the point where the reel won't spin. This is not the case on the silver max, I loosen it as much as it will go and it still is tight and has a lot of tension in the reel. Suggestions? Maybe a good cleaning? Bearing? I am new to bait caters so any advice will be helpful.
