  1. Hello again and thanks for the replies everyone! To fill things out a little bit more. We're visiting friends in North Yarmouth. My thinking is to rent a lake front cabin or cottage. I've found a good many of the cottages/cabins that have kayak's or canoe's available. I'm hoping to find a lake within a hour or two's drive from there. From what I've researched so far there is quite a few good lakes in a hours drive. I'm hoping to rent a fishing/power boat from a marina on the lake or close by. Still searching hard. Fishingmickey
  2. Hello BassBB, Yes it is a very large lake, I'm looking at renting a boat. A couple of the cottages I have looked at have kayak's or canoes available. FM
  3. Hello all, I'm looking to find some good fishing in southern Maine. Smallmouth preferably/hopefully. But pretty much any type of gamefish will do. My sweetie and I along with another couple are planning on spending three or four days renting a cottage or cabin and I hope to put us on some good fish. I've been looking at Lake Sebago primarily. I know there are a bunch of other lakes nearby. Hoping to hear from some of the local Mainer's for advice. Fishingmickey
  4. "The River Why" is probably my favorite of all time. I've read it at least half a dozen times. Honorable mention's are Louis L'Amours The Walking Drum and I will also agree with Phil on his choice of "The 13th Valley". Fishingmickey
  5. I am a devout spinnerbait chucker. I use to use Berkley XL 14# mono, now it is 14-16 lb flouro. FC Sniper and Tatsu being my current fav's. Fishingmickey
  6. Great stuff double F! Hope her love affair with fishing continues. Fishingmickey
  7. I'll have to second the Jet ski's and add Wake boats. Fishingmickey
  8. Betcha can't catch many logs with that line either. It is good for recycling. FM
  9. If your going to be spending sometime in Austin and like to fish out of a kayak. I can probably fix you up with a trip. I've got plenty of extra tackle and know the area well. There are several kayak rental places in the area if I can't scratch one up. Regards, Fishingmickey p.s. Franklins BBQ is the bomb, but waiting hours in a "cue" for it suck.
  10. Why do they always discontinue making my favorite lures. I also miss the Heddon dying flutter (bass colored, cedar, double prop) topwater. Fishingmickey
  11. Ads, I also pretty much just kayak bass fish. I prefer a longer rod in the kayak 7'-7'3". A 7' rod helps you clear the nose of the kayak if/when your fish swims under the boat or you need or want to change sides. For spinner baits, buzz baits and chatter baits I use 14-16# flouro. Frog fishing would be braid (40-50#) and a heavy rod. That rod would also double for flipping or pitching jigs, t-rigs and punching into heavier cover. Fishingmickky
  12. Five gallon bucket and a rope. Lower the bucket to just above the water surface and boat/bucket flip the bass into it. Haul bucket and fish up.
  13. The Casitas and Fury is a excellent combo choice in my humble opinion! Agree with Ladybass though, 7.2:1 is spot on unless your planning on using deep crank baits a lot. Then go with the 6.3:1. Fishingmickey
  14. Gambler's answer to the Sluggo... FM
  15. Shimano Casitas 150 HG (119) & St Croix Mojo bass 7' MH (130). If you want a little nicer reel the Citica (149)or even more nicer the Curado 70 (199) at TW. Fishingmickey
  16. I got the flyer out of the mailbox and picked up in-store. Haven't checked the on-line side. Might want to make a phone call or two. Sale flyer prices were/are good till the 5th of April. FM
  17. Hello Kentucky Dave, A lot of good advice above. I'd like to add my bit to it. I don't recommend going with the cheaper kayaks. Not sure what size guy you are (it makes a really big difference). Smaller narrow kayaks are much more prone to capsizing. If your a big guy in a small boat and you get your center of gravity off of the center line much at all. Like reaching out to net a fish, grabbing a limb, dealing with a power boat wake or waves and chop. The kayak will flip and your swimming. All of your stuff goes either floating away or sinks to the bottom. If the water is cold and your alone it can be life threatening quickly. It happens really quick like slipping on a bar of soap quick. Second thing is the seat. If it doesn't have good back support and isn't very well made or cheaply made. it will suck. like the other posters have said. Your butt will go numb and back will be aching inside of a hour or two. I love to kayak fish and love to spend time on the water with friends. I hate reading about how some have died. I feel a lot of that is caused by the smaller inexpensive kayaks and new to kayaking fisherman not having a experienced kayak fisherman to guide them past those pitfalls. That said, I hope you find a kayak that works for you and you get bit by the kayak fishing bug. Fishingmickey.
  18. Picked a a Curado 300E from Cabelas for $144.00 They are on sale for $100 off. I got the last one the Buda TX. store had. It was a display reel so I got another 10% off on top of the sale price. They still had a couple of the 300EJ's in right hand. Fishingmickey
  19. Sorry to say this didn't happen. Seaguar website when I apply the coupon code shows the reduced price. But when I go to pay for it either Paypal or with CC the discount disappears. Tried communicating with both Shoptron (Seaguar pay site) and Seaguar with no success. Fishingmickey
  20. I have also experienced the problems of spinning using the 90 size. When fast retrieving it to make another cast it has a tendency to spin much more so then the 130 size. It didn't take long for me to start developing line twist knots whenever I got slack in the line. Fishingmickey
  21. Thanks Glenn! 110 bucks saved on a 1000 yard spool of Tatsu! Fishingmickey
  22. Howdy FG, I have both rods, the GL2 and three Mojo's. They are both great rods. They both perform flawlessly. If they are rocking good deals on the GLX's for sure snag them up and pass on the good fortune to your friends if you don't want or need to use them. Fishingmickey
  23. Erikmon, Yes, I have tried them! I like them so far. I posted earlier after a fishing weekend. I used them in a tournament this past weekend. My opinion is still the same. I have used them with good success. I used the 4/0 standard wire on a 7" power worm and the 5/0 heavy wire on a 10" power worm. Regardless of how many have said gimmicky they have worked very well for me. Fishingmickey
  24. For what it is worth, I have used the 3/0 Gamakatsu straight shank rubber worm hooks on the 7" power worm and the 5/0 (same Gamakatsu hook) on the 10" for many years with excellent success. Weights 7" 3/16 oz bullet. 10" 1/4 oz bullet. Fishingmickey
  25. Howdy y'all, Well there is a sucker born everyday said WC Fields. Pass me the lollipops please. I bought three packages of the hooks from TW and test fired them last weekend. Caught probably 7-8 fish on them. used them as a worm hook on a 7" and 10" power worms. The 7" was Texas rigged and the 10" Carolina rigged. I used the 4/0 standard size for the 7" and 5/0 heavy gauge size for the 10" worms. So far they have batted 100% bite vs hooked up and landed. They aren't gammy sticky sharp but the point is narrow and kinda of long, All fish swung on were well hooked. Fishingmickey
