  1. I currently use Power Pro 30 & 35# braid on my Revo SX and Plueger Patriach. It's worked well. I saw the new Power Pro Slick 8 and didn't know if that was worth upgrading too when I finally need new line. I don't think I need 50-65# braid like some guys because I'm really not horsing fish out of huge weeds like some other guys might. So far 30-35# has worked well for me, but I did hear that using a heavier braid might make it easier to cast, won't get stuck into the spool as much, and is less likely to birdsnest, although I tried 50# once and I think I had a hard time casting it far.....that could be because I was new with a baitcasting reel though. I am probably going to be ordering two Revo Rockets and 2 Shimano Ci4+FA's if I can get them for the right price. I have a Shiman Stradic that's over 10 years old and is making an annoying sound that I can't get rid of, even though I have oiled every part that can be oiled. I believe I have 8# Fireline on it. I use my baitcasting rods for mainly topwater frogs, Ragetail Toads (one of the best lures I've ever used), spinner baits, jig & pigs. I mostly use my spinning rods for senko's and other stuff. But I also use my spinning rods for walleye fishing, so I need a line that will be good for all of this. Sometimes I use a slip-bobber for walleyes, so this could affect what line to choose also. So what lines and weight would you recommend with these set-ups? How often do you change your lines? (My friend says he only changes his line if it's braid like every 3-5 years and he's had no problems). I was looking at Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon because I read in this article that it is the best of mono and fluorocarbon, what do you think?
  2. Why do you like shorter rods for topwater?
  3. Yep. Works good. Just drag it slowly over the weds and pads. I've caught some of my biggest fish on them. Been around for a long time. Once you hit the edge of the pads/weeds keep dragging it out into open water for a little bit. I've had fish come from out under the pads and crush it too.
  4. Weird. The word citation in most states is a ticket. Like a speeding ticket is called a citation. lol.
  5. I did a lot of research and Dual Pro is the only one I found without any negative reviews. I ordered a 3 bank and couldn't be happier. It's a little more expensive, but worth it when it could cost you a trip or a day on the water or leave you stranded somewhere.
  6. I don't really like heavier rods either. Too heavy. Even fishing pads and milfoil for me. I have a heavy Mojo Bass and don't use it. I just ordered a heavy Cabelas ZX but I thinks they seem thinner and lighter then most heavy rods.
  7. I just ordered a Cabelas Tournament ZX topwater/jerk bait which is 6'9". After I bought I thought it might be too short. I have a 6'6" casting rod and I feel it's too short. It definitely doesn't cast as far as my 7' Mojo Bass. I also ordered a 7' Cabelas ZX spinning rod. I'm wondering if I ordered my bait casting rod too short since it's 6'9" and not 7'. I know that it's only a few inches but I definitely don't like the short comings of the 6'6" bait casting rod's casting distance. So what are the shortest bait casting and spinning rods you use?
  8. Cool. What is BTD?
  9. Cool. I think the Revo line is prob a great line, I hope this reel matches up. What is 4IPT?
  10. Anyone have any reviews on the Abu Garcia Revo Rocket? I have a Pflueger Patriarch an like it a lot. Then I bought an Abu Garcia Revo SX last year and love it. It casts about 10 yards farther than my Flueger, the problem is that it is a slow gear ration. So now I need a fast reel for my frog rod. I was looking at the Abu Garcia Revo Rocket. It's got a great gear ratio. Fast to pull fish in or your lure when you want to get it back to the boat quick. Not cheap though, but what do you do. Anyone have any reviews, thoughts, or experience with the Abu Garcia Revo Rocket?
  11. Cool. Yeah, $69 a rod isn't bad and they are the Outdoor Life rod of the year.
  12. There are on sale right now at Cabelas from $99 to $69. Anyone have any experience with the Cabelas .Tournament ZX bait casting and spinning rod? Are they good? Worth the money? How do they stack up against other rods?
  13. I'm looking for a high quality spinning reel for walleye and bass fishing. I was looking at either the Shimano Stradic CI4+FA and Stradic FJ because I heard these were two of the best. I heard the CI4+FA wasn't worth the extra money over the Stradic FJ too. I was looking at the 2500 size, but I'm not sure if that's the optimal size though. So what's the best spinning reel for under $300, CI4+FA, Stradic FJ, or another? And what's the right size? Also, where is the cheapest place to get one?
