  1. Just got two new Revo Rockets and I was wondering if there is anything you do with them to get them ready such as oiling them, or taking them apart, inspecting them, and cleaning them? Also, they both make a little noise when reeling, which seems normal, but they both make a little different sound, is that weird?
  2. Better than the Ci4 or FJ? I was looking at the Quantum Smoke but read a review where they said the Ci4 was much better.
  3. Try a Ragetail Toad, best topwater lure I've ever used.
  4. You mean the factory built in rod holders that a new boat came with, you ditched them? Did you break some rods?
  5. So, I'm looking at getting two reels for my two spinning rods. They are Cabelas Tournament ZX 7' spinning rods which are medium weight with an X-fast tip and are rated for #6-12lbs line. I want to use them for bass and some walleye fishing. I don't want the reels to be too big. I was lookng at a Shimano Ci4+FA and a Shiman Stradic FJ. I see that they come in STCI42500FA and STCI43000FA and for the Stradic ST2500 and ST3000. What size should I get? *** I use my spinning reels a lot, so I don't mind spending a little for a good reel, however, if anyone has any other suggestions on other reels that would be good, I'm all ears.
  6. I just got two of these. Normally $100 but on sale for $69. I just checked and the sale is over. I'd keep an eye on them, they will most likely go back on sale again. Won the Outdoor Life rod of the year this year too. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Tournament-ZX-Bass-Spinning-Rod/1620153.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch.cmd%3Fform_state%3DsearchForm%26N%3D0%26fsch%3Dtrue%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3Dzx%26WTz_l%3DHeader%253BSearch-All%2BProducts%26x%3D0%26y%3D0&Ntt=zx&WTz_l=Header%3BSearch-All+Products
  7. No. Caught them in open water. When I didn't catch fish in them in the pads I switched to the Ragetail Toad and caught fish. Didn't use a the Spook in the pads obviously.
  8. Is that the Tournament ZX or a different rod you had?
  9. I'd say the Ragetail Toad is perhaps one of the greatest topwater baits ever. Really. I have sacrificed catching more fish because I want to try to catch them on topwater. My friend got me into bass fishing about 5 years ago and he let me use a Ragetail Toad. On days when nothing else has worked and I've tried crankbaits, senkos, spinner baits and buzz baits, I have put on the Ragetail Toad and caught fish consistently. It's an amazing lure. The one thing is that it doesn't seem to get the huge topwater bite that say a frog or popper will get. It's more of a splash and swallow. Either way, they are relatively inexpensive. Buy yourself two packs and go fish. I've caught fish with them by letting them sink to the bottom on the initial cast and by churning them across the top of the water.
  10. I've caught a few fish with my Heddon Zara Spook and a few with hollow body frogs like a Spro. However, everytime I caught fish was on the initial splash-down. I know how to walk the dog, but I've never caught a figh doing it that way. I've walked the dog slowly and non-stop, I've done it stop and go, and I've done it fast, and I've mixed it up with all of these on 1 retrieve. Never caught a fish with the frog or spook with walking the dog no matter what type of retrieve. It's like I can catch a fish on the initial landing and if I don't, might as well reel in fast and cast again. What am I doing wrong?
  11. So, I bought a used 2000 Crestliner Fishhawk 1750 last year. I asked the owner about using the rod locker and he said, "I don't use it, rod lockers break rods." It's an older style rod locker that is just carpet inside, no individual rod slots. Well, last year on my last fishing outing I was putting my rods in the locker and snapped the tip off of my St. Croix Rage spinning rod. I was upset to say the least. So this year I wanted to avoid the rod locker. I thought about putting some plastic inside the rod locker so that the rod tips wouldn't catch and would slide in easily. But on second thought I figured that might not work. I saw a guy made his own rod locker on here, but I don't want to do that either. I did order the Boat Buckle Rod buckle and am going to try that and leave the rods on the bow of the boat tied down when boating. I was wondering if doing this was secure enough for when trailering the boat too. I was worried that it wouldn't be and a rod might fly out of my boat on the way down the road. Part of the problem with the boat buckle is that it's only one end of the rod. I didn't order 2 rod buckle sets. How do you transport your rods in your boat on the water and trailering? I have one like this without the individual rod slots:
  12. Dropped the fillets in an egg and then Shore Lunch and put in the Emeril Deep Fryer. Amazing! Best fish ever.
  13. With the winds that are usually out on the lake my boat gets loaded at an angle, because I normally leave the lake at dark with most people there is a line to get boats out of the water. I don't want to be that guy that takes an hour to load his boat. I just want to load it quickly and get out. So these will make it much quicker and easier. Plus, I am big on having my boat loaded correctly.
  14. I ordered a Abu Garcia Revo SX 6:4:1 last year and love it. The only problem is it's too slow for what I do. I normally fish topwater or spinnerbaits. My other reel is a 7:1 Plueger Patriarch. I was going to order a Revo SX this year but ended up ordered 2 Revo Rockets last night. If I were you I'd go with the Revo SX. I bought it last year because it won Outdoor Life's reel of the year and I haven't been disappointed with their reviews yet.
  15. I have been to Bass Pro and seen some of there brand stuff. It just doesn't seem to be as well made as the Cabelas stuff. Almost all of my hunting clothing is Cabelas and it's some of the best stuff. As a matter of fact the Cabelas Tournament ZX rods won the Outdoor Life rod of the year this year and they are currently on sale for $69 right now. Spinning and Casting and free shipping. I just bought 4 of them. I would go with the Cabelas. They make some of the highest quality stuff, have a great return policy, and the Outdoor Life gear review tests haven't led me astray yet.
  16. I know msrp is manufacturers suggested retail price, I googled mswp but came up with nothing. What is that?
  17. I started a thread on here looking for the best places to find fishing equipment. People posted places like Ebay, Amazon, Tackle Warehouse, and others. I had checked Amazon a few times this month for Abu Garcia Revo Rockets and found them for $299, just like they are everywhere else. Well, because someone said sometimes Amazon has great prices I looked them up again tonite and found them for $226 and $241 with free shipping. Both came from sellers with ratings over 98% and many sales. So I quickly ordered both. However, it made me think if the price was so good, what's the chance of it being counterfeit or knock-offs? I am also a archery hunter and have heard of counterfeit products such as Rage Broadheads which are only about $39 a pack and SD cards which are only $2-$20 each being counterfeited. So if someone's willing to counterfeit something so cheap, they could easily counterfeit a nearly $300 reel or other equipment. So has anyone on here ever encountered counterfeit or knock-off fishing equipment?
  18. Why do you have them on rods that already have hook-keepers? And why do rod companies even make rods without hook keepers?????
  19. I've had my best success and really only success at dusk and dark with buzzbaits. I suppose since they are so noisy it's easy for fish to hone in on them.
  20. I talked to Chris too and that's what convinced me.
  21. Cool. I never thought about it's lower profile not being blown around as much in the wind. I fish mostly shallow, weedy, bass type water now.
