  1. Ish also likes to "drop bombs". When you have a big punching weight, or a big bullet weight, you want a straight shank hook with a snell knot so the weight doesn't pop the fish's mouth open before the hook can dig in. A straight shank snelled hook will pop out 90 degrees when it comes in contact with the weight letting it dig and penetrate better on a hookset.
  2. No I didn't plan on it. I knew they were up shallow and spawning and some were already done but I didn't think the females were cruising. I figured they were already down in deeper water. They were cruising that day and my PB was caught about 10 casts into the trip. My brother then caught one almost as big and later that day caught one to match my PB and caught his PB. Lets just say it wasn't just a memorable moment, it was a memorable day.

  4. Yea this year has been kinda different. I set a goal to catch at least 1 fish everytime I go out, even if it's for an hour. I have been doing pretty good, I can count on 1 hand(maybe a thumb on the other) the times I didn't catch fish this year. My brother said its been really different this year, possibly due to the long harsh winter we had.
  5. Google Earth is your best friend... Ross Barnett Reservoir is just east of Ridgeland...go eat at C*ck Of The Walk, you'll thank me later.
  6. I'm in the same kayak so to speak hehe. I want a "hands free" propulsion system so I can keep fishing. I looked at the Hobie PA kayaks really hard. I have been looking at them for a few years actually. The price is what turned me off. I could get a decent jon boat and convert it for the same price as a Hobie PA but I can't get into places with a jon boat that I can get to with a kayak. Now like I said, I looked hard at the Hobie PA. It comes with a paddle, rod holders and built in electronics so all you have to do is plug in. You get what you pay for. Lately I have been looking at the Old Town Predator XL that comes out in November. I like the idea of an electric motor built in with foot controls.
  7. I use a Damiki Dark Angel 6'6" MH/XF with a *** Concept "A" 8.1:1 reel. I flip weightless worms and creature baits on it and smaller jigs, 1/4 oz and less, and I'll even wacky rig a senko weightless with it and it casts amazing. THe rod is sensitive too, great for feeling those really subtle bites. It's a little more for this combo. I think I paid about $320 for it. I would suggest the Lews Speed Spool LFS, its less than the Concept "A" but the Damiki Dark Angel is the ticket. It's a killer rod, very versatile.
  8. To be honest it gets me pretty upset! Also another thing they do is when something is not in stock anymore it disappears from the website. I bought a Damiki Dark Angel rod and went back to submit a review and they took the rods off the site!
  9. Nice! It's cooling off here as well but not as cool as up there. Quality fish bro!
  10. Man you guys use some big hooks! I use a 4/0 maybe a 5/0 with my zoom mag worms. If you are feeling a tick, more than likely they grabbed the tail. I notice when its a harder thump, they hit the hook. The tick hits, you wanna wait just a little longer before ripping back. I stopped using braid on my worm rods. I noticed that I would rip it out of their mouths more often than not. I have one rod spooled with 15 lb fluorocarbon and 1 I have my other one spooled with 20 lb fluorocarbon for thicker stuff, like grass and wood. I started using weighted owner twist lock hooks. I guess it would be a rage rig? I love it. The weight drags and kicks stuff up and the fall of the worm is amazing.
  11. 2 words, Strike King. And not just the KVD squarebills. Look at the different series cranks. I love Series 1, 1XS, Series 4 and the Series 4S for shallow cranking. Series 3 and Series 5 for a little deeper water or digging up the bottom. I don't get deeper diving crankbaits because I fish shallow lakes.
  12. These kits are good as a starter kit, or to fill a first tackle box. These kits also make great gifts. I used to get these type of kits all the time when I was a kid, they looked cool and they had everything in them. Is it worth it? Yea sure, if you are going to use them up, then yea, go for it.
  13. I have caught some big bass just slow retrieving a squarebill back. I hardly ever bounce it off cover, it usually means I have to go get it out.
  14. Keitech Swimjigs, Warbait Warblades. I don't really use swimbaits much unless you count swim'n'caffeine shads.
  15. Big bass, big mouth. He probably didn't feel the hooks at first. If a fish is big enough, he will eat something and hang out, He doesn't feel the need to eat and run because of competition. I was dragging a jig outta cover once and all of a sudden it went BAM and I knew there was a fish on it but I was so struck by the force that it just stunned me. The line didn't move until I came to my senses and started to reel up slack and thats when he started to cruise. I set back as hard as I could, he still spit the jig like it didn't have a 5/0 hook on it. BTW, hooksets are free
  16. My cranking rod has a 5.4:1 reel on it, my spinnerbait rod has a 6.4:1 reel on it, My flippin and pitchin stick has a 7.1:1. My everything rod has an 8.1:1 reel on it. I fish everything on that rod except crankbaits. I love 8.1:1, I can cover a lot of water with it.
  17. I haven't used the Patriarch but I do have 2 Supremes(6.4:1 and 5.4:1) and I think they are great reels. I love my Pflueger spinning reels, I have been using them for years so getting a baitcaster was only natural for me. I think Pflueger makes great reels for the price. My only gripe for the Supremes is the magnetic brake knob is small and tight, really hard to turn when the reel is new. It's a little easier now but it's still a pain.
  18. Caught my PB(5.54lb) this year right off the bank, less than 2 feet of water with a 1.0 KVD squarebill crankbait. Most of my fish have come from 0' to 4' of water. This also due to the fact that most of the lakes I fish are shallow lakes, less than 12'.
  19. I used to care, when I was 12. If Bill Dance used it, I went and bought it. Then around the age of 14 I realized that Bill could have a bare metal jighead tied on and fish would still bite for him so now I just fish what works for me. I could care less who endorses it or designed it, though I do have a good bit of the KVD crankbaits and the Perfect Plastics, but it's hard to get anything Strike King without KVD plastered all over it. I have been using baits from other, smaller lure companies lately, like Warbaits, Revenge, Backwater Tackle and Phenix. I have also been getting into Japanese baits as well. Keitech Tungsten Jigs are quickly becoming a favorite for me.
  20. I used to like Booyah a lot but stopped using them after some issues that were not model specific. I still have some Strike King ones that are my favorite to fish with, but lately I have been in love with Revenge spinnerbaits, love the bluegill colors.
  21. I have 2 cardboard boxes from TW that are full of plastics. I have a big Plano tacklebox that has more plastics, spinnerbaits, and 2 3700s filled with crankbaits. My tacklebag has more stuff in it too. Stocking stuffers are a plenty though.
  22. Positive Mental Attitude. That is probably the best tool you have. You have to stay positive and keep moving forward. If you aren't catching them in a certain place, say under docks, start fishing somewhere else. Eventually you have to run into 1 and then you can narrow down where the others are based on where you found that 1. Everyone says in summer the bass are more active because the water is warmer, but like everyone has said, this year has been off. I have been doing a lot more finesse fishing than power fishing this summer, even to locate bass. My suggestion is keep fishing and stay positive.
