Well the connectors are called swivels and they have a few uses. 1 if you are fishing with a lure that spins through the water you would tie on a swivel to prevent your line from twisting. 2 you can use a swivel as a stopper for a weight that slides up and down your line. Drop shooting is a technique involving a weight that pulls your bait Down to a specific depth. Jigging is fishing with a jig Top water lures stay on top of the water they include frog imitators or poppers. With the Texas rig you first slide on your bullet weight then tie your hook directly to your line.

Texas rigs are a great way to start for bass. Catfish are different. .. I use bobbers and circle hooks for them with chicken livers tied to the hook with string. Also I almost forgot go to animated knots .com and learn how to tie a good knot I recommend 5 he Palomar knot.

I would choose one method your interested in and learn that. From there trust me you will branch out. For example learn jigs, soft plastic worms or spinner baits. Aquire the hooks and other tackle for that method of fishing. I learned to catch bass with a Texas rig. All you need is good hooks some bullet weights and plastic worms or creatures, from there I explored other techniques. Don't be afraid to talk to other fisherman. I learned about lots of baits by simply asking other guys what works. Any ways tight lines my friend.

Yes Texas rigged worms catch fish so in terms of the best lure... I feal it takes the prize. Worms fished correctly will consistently catch bass.

Plastic worms. For me they are the most versatile bait. Cranks work well but only at given depths, times etc. I can catch bass on plastic worms anytime any way.

Never tried clams I'm fishing the Sacramento delta and we catch Em on cut baits on a single drop shot. I will have to see if I can get some clams but cut bait tied to the hook with magic thread works out here.

I'm on the west coast and catch a lot of strippers. I use a sliding weight holder with a 2 to 8 oz pyramid sinker depending on depth and current. Then a plastic bead to protect my knot then a swivel. I attach a 2 to 3 ft leader to the swivel with a number 4 to 6 bait hook. I use FRESH sardines, anchovies, or shad and secure it tightly to the hook with magic thread or sewing thread. Use somewhat heavy tackle. I use between 20 and 30 lb test. Cast out and let that sinker go to the bottom kinda like cat fishing. Other good baits are ghost shrimp and pile worms but then... be careful this is how I caught my sturgeon haha but I don't know if you guys have them out there!

Sweet fish! I fish primarily from a tube and love fishing at water level. I swear the fish fight harder.
