These questions are all relative. There are days where all I throw is a jig. Bites can be every other cast or can be none all day. You don't have to land on the nose, however, I do catch a lot of fish on the first initial fall. There are several retrieves to use with jigs. Depth can be inches out to 40 feet.

Same conditions we faced this week and they were eating spinnerbaits, top water and A-rigs.

Still should have been something to figure out. If fish are rolling on frogs in that cold of water they were still actively feeding. Spook, buzzbait, weightless fluke, spinnerbait, shallow running crank/square bill would have got the nod if it were me.
