I seldom fish a SB but when I do I give the bait a good jerk to get the blades going.

Warning about FC on a spinning reel: The stuff has a mind of its own! Keeps flowing off of the reel even when the bail is closed! Nasty stuff!

I have the Powell and am happy with it. Kinda wish it had more give in the tip to get more distance. I would not recomend mini guides for frogging. The stuff you pick up on the line, when fishing slop, clogs the tiny guides.

I think his approach is "textbook". He does not panic, he reels down / takes up slack, and leans into the fish. I think the reason many smaller fish do not get hooked is because they are taking the frog down by the legs. (why does this site not have spellcheck???)

You may have done nothing wrong, you may have done everything wrong. To answer your question, "what happened?" You lost a fish on a frog! Happens pretty often. Watch Bama Bass on youtube. He has the frog hookset down!

Unless you are taking up space, you do not need much. Just enough to cover the spool with a couple of layers.

I bought two reels on ebay that came with braid on them. The line was tied directly and it slipped badly. Pretty sure the seller thought the drag did not work. My gain!

The problem would be the length of the rod. If you will be stream fishing, you will be dealing with a lot of brush. A rod under 5' is ideal. Get a cheapy rig at Walmart.

Things are getting out of hand. Next thing you know they will have a lure imitating a whole school of bait fish... oh wait...
