  1. Someone is always going to crack a joke... ;D
  2. On second thought that might look fairly good....
  3. I think I might go the Skeet Reese route and make it yellow and black..... Just kidding
  4. If you always fish your strengths you are going to win sooner or later..
  5. Thank God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can say that again!!!
  6. I have a john boat that I want to paint....... What are some good color selections?
  7. A guy I fish tournament with was using the baby paca craws as a jig trailer and putting worm rattles in them. We were flipping and pitching and he was doing good with them..
  8. I appreciate it George.
  9. The way I try to choose colors is to make the bait look like something they eat.. a bluegill, shad, crappie, crawfish, ect... Sometimes I think I do this just as a confidence booster because I see my friend catch fish all the time on bright yellow, green, orange, ect. trick worms... Sometimes I think a bass will eat just about anything
  10. Both of those baits are a lot more versatile than most people think. Like FatBoy said you can fish them under the water. I like to swim mine to make it look like a bluegill, crappie, or shad (depending on which color I am using). You can also buzz them across the surface like a buzzbait or even carolina rig them. I've also had good results with them as a jig trailer.
  11. I explored the bait a little bit more today and discovered that they will not roll over as much if you use a texas rig bullet wieght in front of them... I've only been using them for a couple of days now and have caught 20 or more on them... They still aren't as good as the original senko... I don't think anything will ever be..
  12. I've caught fish that way with line up to 20lbs mono. Normally I use 8lbs mono like you but the heavier the line you use the more it will mess up the action of the bait. One way to get around that is use flourocarbon. Since flouro sinks it will not effect the action.
  13. What does everyone think about the new swim senko's? I like them but find them very expensive. They will start to roll around if you don't rig them exactly right but other than that I like them. The only way I've fished them so far is wieghtless texas rig. Has anyone fished them a differant way? What are some of your favorite colors as well?
  14. There usually will only be me in the boat or maybe one other person... speed is not much of a factor I just need to get to one spot to the other.... I couldn't find any max HP on the boat so I don't know... I assume it's something around 25... I don't fish restricted water so that isn't a factor.. but money is... thanks guys
  15. What outboard motor size would you suggest to put on a 14 ft john boat
  16. I'll try and do better next time :-[
  17. Jeez guys!! How I was holding the fish isn't the issue here... I assure you no bass were harmed in the making of these photos.. When I catch a bass like that and it dies I get a little :'(
  18. This one is the 6-14
  19. I recently had the opportunity to test a weight estimation formula that converts inches of bass into pounds of bass. The formula is: (length * girth * girth) / 800 = weight. I caught two bass that were very close in size and measured there length and girth to estimated there weight by the formula and then I weighed the fish with a digital scale. One fish was 24 inches in length and 16.5 inches in girth. According to the formula both the bass wieght about 8 pounds. The digital scale read different, it said one wieghed 6lbs 12oz and the other weighed 6lbs 14 oz. That left me wondering about how accurate the formula is. Maybe the scales were wrong but I doubt it. I was wondering what everyone else thought about the formula. If any of you have ever used it and how accurate you believe it is. Here are pictures of the two fish for reference (I just want to show them off actually) P.S. I caught them within 15 minutes of each other so that was pretty cool.. Ok.. I'm done :-X
  20. I was wondering what everybody thought about soft-plastic hook selection. What is your favorite hooks for different techniques: flipping/pitching, finnesse, texas rig, carolina rig, wieghtless, frog, ect...?
  21. I have also read the book and thought that it was a very good read. About the Marty Stone/Gerald Swindle thing they recieve more coverage because they handle themselves better and are aligned with the right sponsors (citgo for example). They are as Schultz stated ESPN's "pets". Not that either one of them are bad fisherman (in fact they are better than I could ever hope to be) and only recieve coverage only because of there sponsors and "showy" attitudes, but the fact that they are affilated with the same companies BASS was affilated with makes them good canidates for the show (in ESPN's eyes anyway).
  22. That was too funny...!! ;D ;D ;D ..... a little harsh though. (I'm sure he has made $100,000 from that show he was on) I agree with Velvick though, but you have to have a good mixture of course so you can have enough money to fish... unless you fish as a professional (can't fish for very long with just $1,000 {and make the cost of living}).
  23. I believe that Mr. Houston has come to the point were he doesn't have to prove himself anymore. Plenty of people say that a man who has gotten older can still compete on tour and that is partly true, but there does seem to be a trend of older anglers falling short and younger ones coming on top. (That is not always the case of course)
  24. Couldn't have said it better myself! I always try to give the winner a good handshake and a smile after it is all over with. After all, fishing is about competing agianst the fish not your fellow fisherman. Thanks for the reminder LBH.
  25. Yeah don't only use black, certainly there are other colors that work. It's not good to get caught up in a color like that. Just make sure you try and fish the moment. P.S. - Ive used a marker to alter the color of spinnerbaits and cranks to make them look more like the forage the bass were feeding on. I picked up the idea from KVD at the lake Amistad tournament early in the year. Good luck in your tournament bro.
