  1. I always use a snap on cranks, jerkbaits, poppers, spooks and spybaits. I guess just about any hard bait come to think of it...
  2. The regular Tatula tapers are much closer to a fast taper than moderate, I have used mine for lots of fast taper applications and love it.
  3. Anyone have any leads on Duo Realis 120SP's on sale...?
  4. http://www.ebay.com/itm/172500021215?_trksid=p2057872.m2748.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT At this price, I couldn't let it sit in my watch list any longer. It's rough but I fish from the bank mostly so it's perfect for that.
  5. Bwahahahahahahhahaaa!!! Well done!
  6. And here I am looking for an EWG shakey head to Texas rig a tube... I'm probably still going to try it...
  7. I'm using a 6'6" MF rod for lighter jerkbaits, topwater poppers, and smaller walking baits, rated from 1/4-5/8oz. I don't go much above 3/8 on this rod. I'm using a 6'7" MHF rod for heavier jerkbaits (1/2 oz or more), topwater poppers and bigger walking baits, rated 3/8-1oz. I use braid wit ha leader on both of my setups. I tried going with mono or fluoro but didn't like all the stretch I felt, I couldn't get a good feel for what the lure was doing, especially with jerkbaits. I also tried using a ML mod-fast rod for my 1/2oz jerkabaits and hated it. I had to put so much power into the rod to get the lure to do anything. The one adjustment I have made due to using braid and a fast taper (along with ensuring the drag is set properly) is to gently sweep the rod to set the hooks.
  8. I use braid with a leader for my jerkbaits and love how directly I can feel the pull of the lure with braid vs straight mono or fluoro. I have been using both copoly and fluoro as a leader and like both. I agree that I don't think you need to go as light as 8# for your leader. I've been using at least 12# (fluoro or copoly) and find it fouls the hooks on a cast far less often vs lighter line.
  9. That's good news, exactly what I'm hoping will pan out. They should arrive at the store tomorrow so I'll find out then. Both are XF so it'll be interesting to fish them, I haven't fished any XF rods before.
  10. I picked up the 7'2" MH and 7'6" H from Gander Mtn. I'm hoping the 7'6" fishes heavier than it's rated so I can potentially do some frogging with it. Otherwise it'll spend time as my light pitching and flipping stick or I'll sell it to fund something else. I'm almost positive I'll love the 7'2" MH though.
  11. Has anyone used the 7'4" OR 7'6" HF Team Daiwa S? I picked one up yesterday and was surprised at how light it is, especially considering it doesn't use super light guides. Curious to know how they compare to a Tatula. Would it double up well for heavier jigs as well...? Thanks!
  12. Anyone...? Also, does anyone double up their frog/punch rod with heavy jigs (5/8 - 1oz)...? I might be selling my heavy jig rod to fund this rod but I still want to be able to throw a heavy jig when needed without buying a second jig-only rod since I'm already looking to pick up this frog/punch rod. Thoughts...? Thanks in advance!
  13. Cut your old senkos into 1/2" long chunks and stuff a piece into the nose of your tubes. It makes it much easier to t-rig them, especially if you use hooks with a spiral bait keeper like an Owner Twistlock. Used gear is a huge money saver, especially if you like high end gear. Same with mono backing on reels.
  14. Anyone used the Gandet Mtn. Elite or Tournament 7'6" HF for fogging and punching?
  15. With the coming sale and a pitching/frog rod on my radar, I was looking at both of these rod series'. I don't want to spend a ton since I'm not sure I'll be doing a lot of either technique, but they're both techniques I'd at least like to give a fair shake. Is the tip fairly soft like a Kistler, or is it stiff like an Abu rod? I'd be putting a Daiwa 105HL on it to pitch with and probably a TD-Z 100ML (7.1 gears) on it for frogging (at least until I find a deal on a high gear ratio Zillion or J-Dream). Worst case scenario is that I'd like to use the rod for something else should I not take to pitching and frogging. Thanks in advance for your feedback and Happy Thanksgiving!
  16. I have the 7' MLR and MR casting rods and the 7'1" MLX spinning rod and they're all great, especially for the price. I love how light they are, I have a Pixy on the MLR and an Ito on the MR and both balance very well. I have an AIRD2000 on the MLX and balance is very good with that setup as well.
  17. I'm looking for a couple of accessible bank fishing spots near Tuscaloosa. I'd like to take my 3 year old daughter out, preferably somewhere that we won't be in the way of pedestrians/cyclists etc. Thanks in advance!
  18. Anyone know of any online retailers running deals for Super Spooks or One Knocker Spooks? Thanks!
  19. Thanks for all the input gentlemen, I really appreciate it! It was in my tackle bag, stuffed into the passenger footwell for our move from Toronto to Tuscaloosa. I must have squished it somehow because the top was open. Only a week before was when I pulled the foil seal from the top of the tube... I'll have to pick up another tube or two sometime soon and actually use it this time. I think I'm going to soak the bag in some diluted simple green (love that smell!) and let the tools soak in some full strength stuff after a hot water bath. Thanks again!
  20. It's a brand of bass attractant, you slather it on a lure and it's supposed to attract more fish. I never got to use it...
  21. I hadn't thought of simple green but that's as good as place as any to start. It actually didn't make it onto a single lure, it was a brand new tube. The lid must have popped off somehow, the rest is history...
  22. As the title states, nearly an entire tube of Liquid Mayhem exploded in my tackle bag, coating a small side compartment and its contents in the stuff. Contents include some tools. Has anyone had to get this stuff off before, and if so, what did you use and how? Any and all help and suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
  23. I snagged a seagull fishing for mackerel in Nova Scotia a couple of years ago. Mackerel rigs have a heavy treble-hooked jigging spoon at the end and 3 more hooks tied so they stick out like a drop shot hook, one above the other about 4" apart. It flew right into the path of my rig and all you could hear was this loud, hollow thump! It wasn't able to put up much of a fight because the rig had wrapped almost completely around it. We were fishing from a pier about 15' above the water and I was worried that I wouldn't be able to haul the bird up on my medium power Berkley Lightning (the older style, not the orange one). Amazingly it held up and I was able to get the bird out of the water and up onto the pier. I'm sure the 20# braid helped there too. Luckily I wasn't fishing alone and my father in law held the bird while I got the hooks out of it.
  24. Which rod are you using, and what are its specs?
