When we went to Milford last November, we never had to leave the dam to be on fish the entire time. We probably caught around 80 fish between us that day. And a bonus big Blue Cat. Neds and tubes on the dam. Up and down, rinse and repeat.

My first one had a white head. Then I hung it from a tree a month ago at LS and Bond was nice enough to donate an extra he had the same day out there, which happened to have a chart head. I dig it. And da fish do too.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Had a pretty solid weekend. First Lone Star guide trip of the year on Saturday. Didn't get into any big females due to the extreme cold temps we had the few nights prior (and 33 degrees launching at 6:30 that morning), but did get the guys on quite a few fish to keep them busy. Had them both throwing Wobblers for their first time (Ivy and Sexy Momma). They caught fish on Wobblers, spinnerbaits, and a jerkbait. Always love when clients ask where and how they can their hands on some BHWs. Sunday, my EKB tournament was cancelled due to wind (LOL what wind), so I had the day off. First one since the beginning of Feb. Decided to get out with my old man. We started at Clinton and got warmed up with Wipers and Whites for a few hours, then bounced over to Lone Star around 5. We were into fish almost immediately. I had my dad throwing a black and blue Wobbler to start (his first time throwing it as well), and I was throwing an Ivy. He hooked the first and biggest fish of the evening, his biggest LMB in a very long time. He was super stoked and needless to say, I was too. In our first and only pass on the docks, we probably had close to 15 lbs. for our best five. It was an absolute blast. Decided to end the night on a good note, and then my dad proceeded to lock my keys in my truck at the ramp. Still worth it. Dropped the boat off this morning to have the transom rebuilt and a quick once over on the motor before the Bash next week, can't freaking wait!!

Double Digit at Lake of the Ozarks
Agreed. When Coty first replied, I thought his caption said "this one isn't living anymore." So gnarly.

I had temps anywhere from 52-55 on Saturday. Closer to 55 in the creeks and 52-53 main lake. I'm sure it will be far warmer next weekend.

They're in there. Clinton too, someone almost always weighs in one over 5-6 every year. Just not my forte there, even being my home lake.

Yeah. On the boat ramp of the Kaw River...where we all fished last night...

Of course duder. Initially I wasn't going to, and was going to leave them in the FB group, solely because there are plenty of lurkers here that don't post that will immediately run there. Then I realized it hasn't actually been made public. IT WAS AT DOCO GUYS

Had my first guide trip of the season at Melvern on Saturday. Put in after Backlashers and KS Buddy Bass did. Winds were already blowing close to 20 by 8am. My client was a kid I'd taken out last summer from Winfield, KS who this time was needing help pre-fishing and getting to know Melvern for one of his high school tournament in May. Good kid, knew what he was doing which made things pretty easy. I set him up at the bow and moved my foot control to the back of the boat. I had him throwing a jerkbait most of the day which worked to his benefit. Most of the time I was dragging a tube off the back of the boat. Was able to make a TC run after the winds had shifted a little bit. We probably caught close to to 40 fish for the day. I lost the biggest Smallmouth I've ever been hooked up with right under the boat in Eisenhower, and later on in the day he also lost one in between the 4-5# mark on a jerkbait in Eisenhower as well. It went to make its first jump, saw the size of it's head and before you know it the jerkbait came shooting back to the boat. Got him hooked up with his biggest Walleye on a jerkbait on the dam at the beginning of the day as well. I also caught two good Spots which was cool-haven't had one at vern for a while, both on a tube (I didn't throw a moving bait hardly at all to give him those bites). Gave him the tube in TC to get the hang of that bite and didn't take him long. Was a good day despite the winds and pressure of two tournaments. Keith and I will be there next Sunday for our first EKB event.

Last year boaters and non boaters were completely separate, which isn't the case this year. No sense in points when there are only 12 boats in the group.

I guess that's what I'll keep telling myself too.

Got it rigged up and ready for flipping last night. I had it rigged for swimbaits, but it still seemed a bit light for my S-Wavers. I'll keep a spare reel handy for swimbaits.

Shoot me a text a few days prior. In the meantime I'll get to looking around.

Haha, I know, I said for a fee, not for free That was my intention, to use it for flipping/punching. It's rated for up to 1 1/4 oz. I'll give it a shot, I might just prefer a 7-6 H somewhere down the line.

I have a 7' 6" MH Rage I got from Bond that I don't know if I'll see myself using much. If I sent that in would they replace it with another rod of my choice for a fee?

It's a great tool to have in your back pocket. Clients love fishing the Ned, 1) because it's a new technique they've never done before, 2) because catching Smallies on light tackle is just plain fun, and 3) because it produces numbers. My dad loves it now. When I do get to fish for fun (which is few and far between so far this year), I'm fishing for big bites. It sounds spoiled to say, but it's true. I've caught enough 1-2 lb Smallies to last a few lifetimes. It's just nice to branch out and have confidence that you can go catch the same amount of fish, and bigger ones, using different techniques. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Got off work about an hour early yesterday and took that opportunity to take the dog out to Lone Star for the first time this year (she absolutely loves being on the boat). I started in the homes cove, which in hindsight I should not have even bothered. Complete chocolate milk. Didn't see on fish in one pass down the docks, couldn't get bit on anything I had on the deck. Moved over to the east beach cove where the water was 100x more clear, and stumbled upon this guy. Fat, healthy, gorgeous fish. This makes the fifth Smallie I've caught from Lone Star in three years. The previous one I caught last summer on a jig and was 15". Every one before that was 6-9 inches. This one was 17 3/4" 3 lbs. 3 oz. I brought my GoPro bag...but didn't have the GoPro in it. Sure wish I had for this fish. I caught about 20 dinks in the last hour before it got dark and I left. Water temps were 54-55. That one made my night for sure.
