I think this caliber is good enough for mule deer and elk but what about black bear or mountain lion?
  2. I fish strictly with spinning gear, and know there's bait casting as well but is there much difference if any or not? never used one and if i was to get one how long would it take to learn? i'm a pretty fast learner also ,but say spending about 150.00 or 175.00 what would you suggest ? cause you get what you pay for!
  3. This hasn't happened yet but might and struck me as something worth asking, this is hypothetical but could mind you and me , lets say i'm and going after my targeted fish which is bass and with like my tackle setup as is,being with 8lb test and you cast out there and don't hook the fish which your after but say a 22lb muskie instead, can it be done ? or doubtful . just wondering .
  4. gonna ad my own reply to this, people can go without food for 7days then well kinda in a jam and all you have is a pole and 3 lures,
  5. might be a question worth asking , and a good one . if you were in the wild ,which three lures would you take ? not any more than that. in my list would be ,worm, mepp's spinner #2 and small jig, to make it out in the wild say 2 wks.
  6. i just took a look at my tackle and well noticed how the basic, or original worm has varied. this used to be just a plain worm and gotten itself different ,i used to just use starting out fishing your basic one that looks like your night crawler, worm etc.., now these worms as we know them today have changed you could say in many ways. from there i think i used a flip tail (mann's) and it worked and did it's job. plastic worms i would rate as one of the best lures on my top 3 that get results out fishing . as far as styles go and see if i can name most of them , you've got ribbon, flip, curly, stick ,paddle, and split tail too, as far as color goes in this topic, you name it! same with size ,i think it ranges from 3 to12 maybe14 inches ,but i've used alot of them and think it's one of the best lures out there!
  7. I know we have gotten into fishing by now or are starting too, but when you look at what you accumulate after the years go by it will astonish you. for people starting out maybe as well. Like when i look at my rod rack i have 4 total ,2 bass rods,2 crappie rods, now when it comes to tackle boxes i have 3, one is like a mix of topwater, worms, crankbaits, mepp's, small jigs and other terminal tackle in it , the 2nd is all plastics and hooks and wts, the 3rd is a medium one like the 1st box but holds spinner baits instead of crankbaits , I don't know how many you have but for those of us that have gotten into this, when does it stop ? were like kids in a candy store, and i know we like new stuff, but i'm sure theirs of you know what i'm saying. do you think you have enough tackle and will get more or are sufficient with what you have?
  8. This a good question to everyone and deals with artificial only , but i know that every lure out there has caught fish, otherwise it wouldn't be on the market . now we all have our favorite lure but which one would you say is best lure of all if you had to choose ? i have to say the plastic worm , now that's my opinion, what's your opinion? and is there any way of knowing? you can sell lots of a artificial bait but thats so what, everyone does to some extent.
  9. this just came to mind , could be heavily fished but might hold that pb bass as well.
  10. yeh maybe , but when i go out fishing i wonder if people that have put a pole in the water for just as a new thing to do and if they know what they are doing also , or do they have a targeted fish ,if you watch where you fish and take little notes you can tell , they might just be after sunfish and such . i see like alot of that when i go out fishing.
  11. This came to me and is probably a question i see as a easy question but might not have the answer for , But every new fishing season that start's do you ask yourself am i catching more or less fish than last year?, i know everyone one has a system they have made up too . but i seem to ask myself that question as i'm out fishing comparing this season and last as a score card ,you might say if i was to look at and i'm looking at mine, i'm way behind and have used everything that i used last season ,techniques, bait etc.. now hopefully your doing ok , but i don't know , just a question i have and every time i hit the water.
  12. This doesn't apply to those starting out ,but do you see yourself as the angler and skills you have and aquired since we all started fishing as good as you need them or need improvement ? now this scale is what i have made up tackle ,techniques, bait etc.. 1-3 average fishing and 4-7 above average and 8-10 advanced fishing , so i see me on this scale as a 5 1/2 since i haven't used all techniques or lure's either . so where do you fit on this scale? and what needs any improvement if you need any improvement.
  13. Well we have developed are techniques and have put together some kind of tackle box also, somewhat full or full , but this question applies to everyone i think , i don't know if everyone uses everything in their tackle box when fishing or not , i use like topwater and plastics but have you ever put a lure on that you have in your tackle box that's sat there for a long period of time and haven't used either when it was dead fishing ,using all the newer tackle ,then seen this tackle that you said lets try it out but didn't think would work and out performed everything you were using that day?
  14. We all have either started fishing or been fishing and since then we are working on techniques, patterns ,etc... now this came to mind and am wondering ,we all seen fishing shows ,read fishing magazines ,and were taught but question being is do you see yourself using more of the systems you have put together as your own or using more of theirs ? tv shows ,read fishing magazines etc..or some favorite angler's way? so more of your system you have put together being used or more of theirs?
  15. This has to do with a little something that happens while fishing, or did me anyway .First i use a 6'6mh graphite rod ,a shimino spirex reel ,and 8lb mono for around here . Well the 15th fri, while fishing i happened to hook a bass and well was bout 17incher . Now before i finish the rest of this little story and a question, whatever you use is ok,so back to this ,we all talk our opinion's here and help every one we can here ,thats good .but when catching that bass did i think if i had different line ,or reel or pole for that matter was it gonna make a difference . So after that being stated, you could have whatever it it gonna cost and mine being bout 120.00 or like even a zebco 202 like a first combo kit that goes for 29.00 . if you believe in what you have, why change?
  16. first of all the goldfish topic was to be a analogy, but it's ok,but back to what this is all about and hit me from what someone mentioned and found true, i think anyway ,was mentioned pro's have used lures and that's all ,now do they have any pro tournaments that use live bait or not ? Sorry again on the goldfish topic
  17. clearify this better. as far as live bait and artificial bait goes, gold is fake and real but can you tell the difference ? gotta pick it up to find out .same with a fish and bait goes . sorry didn't want to make it confusing.
  18. the title forget ,has to do with live bait and artificial bait , kinda like gold and fools gold both are or look real till you pick them up, same as live bait and artificial is to a fish ,one is one isn't ! but has to bite or attack it to find out and then is hooked either way ! hope you understand what i mean
  19. Now that we all love fishing and have set to catch them , we all catch more than one or maybe not but anyway let me put it short and simple ,how did you end up choosing the fish you now pursue as (the one ) and didn't target another species of fish as(the one ) instead ? like me don't know why but chosen bass instead of say pike, not that nothing wrong with that ,but what led us go for one certain fish? like i stated all fishings fun but why that one fish?and how did you decide your target fish as(the one )?
  20. hello from the rockies !
  21. magnificent mono is what's in hand i think, even though there is new stuff that is also there as well ,flourocarbons, spiderwire, and the rest of the lines, but i've always used monofilament since fishing and never tried the new,and don't think i will .The mono i have does what the new lines likewise ,now those who use the newer lines don't take it wrong ,newer is your liking and work's for you that is fine . But getting to the point, monofilament is as good as gets, and never had a problem with .what's your thoughts bout monofilament ?
  22. well that's your own decision really, but what's important it's what you develop and actually do with it cause you'll get back into the sport and will have more and then some to get back to the sport, lakes, and the fishing , happy fishing!
  23. well it's worth asking, when you want that bass of your lifetime and or whatever species it maybe ,what state and what lake will it come from and actually do it also, I'm gonna go Florida,Lake okeechobee, large mouth
  24. let me be more specific , when a fish strikes, was it hunger or reaction?
  25. what's the difference and how can you tell for sure?
