I can't catch a thing!!!!!!!!!
Today as well as last sat, I took a fishing trip with my buddy to a nearby lake called Lake Folsom. Both times we fished for a good 5 hours until we lost all hope! I have been bassing for 10 years or so, and I just dont get why All I had today was one measly bite. I have a small 12' boat with a slow slow 2hp johnson, no fish finder. I do the best to vary my retreivals, colors, baits, sizes, and cover. Folsom Is fairly low now and has no creek beds or coves in the area accesable with my boat which is a 10-15 mile stretch of land. There are nearly no vegitation structures, and barley any rocky points or submerged walls. I do my best to use the submerged rock structures and rock faces protruding into the water, but no fish. Folsom's air temp is around 60-80 degrees, the water is clear with a slight green stain, and the bass that I have seen from looking off the side of the boat were around 10' down, and looked sluggish. The baits I used were, chrome and blue rattle traps, watermelon or brown cenkos, chartruse gold bladed spinner baits, clown jerk baits, twin tail chartruse grubs, many varieties of majic worms, and assorted shallow to deep diving craink baits(which have been sugested to me before, but I have no luck with them...EVER). Someone please help me, I know the bite is slowing down now that it is fall, but I need some fish in the boat! :'(

Please, please, please help me
what would really help is to find out where they threw the fish in, or if they caught them and tagged them in random areas. One lure that I found to be ol faithful is the Rat l trap, their at walmart, get the chrome one. Also, rooster tails, cinkos, and top water hula popers. Hope i could help.

Did I expect too much?
"As much as I hate to admit this, I myself have done this and it isn't that hard to do. Its not hard to get caught up in knowing that you are going fishing especially when it is a spur of the moment thing." Yeah, I can see where your coming from. It really depends on the situation though, If it werent for them asking twice it would have been no problem, but because of my short temper I would have felt annoyed but supressed it....lol.

Did I expect too much?
That was mighty nice of you, I personaly would have done the same. After the second time though, I would most likely have been somewhat angry seeing as how they are going fishing but arent prepared. I dont see how someone could just grab their tackle box and walk out the door to the fishin hole. I personlay clean and organize my box, re tie all my poles, and make sure everything is ready before I go. Good job though, you show the rest of the world why fisherman are to be respected.

How would you fish this?
Sounds like a great lake. Try some plastics on the docks, like magic worms(morning dawn, clear with green tail), and the infamous cinkos. For the rock walls and large submerged rocks try jerk baits such as rapala "clowns", "td minnows", and worms as well, fish those 5-8' in the day time. Top water in the evening with hula popers, zara spooks, and buzz baits if the fish seem lively. For the steep long points, rattle traps, 3/8 oz jigs, shiny lures, so the bass and walley can sense it well. And good luck, hope i could help some.

What's the weirdest way you've caught a bass?
This didnt happen to me, it happened to my friend but I couldent pass up telling the story. My friend got his lure caught about 2 feet under water in some trees, so i went to the front of the boat to get it out, when he jerks the freakin thing!!!!!!!! Ok, now hes laughing histericaly, with the dislodged lure dangling 1 inch in the water when all of a sudden..... BAM! fish on! I still have no idea how that happened. ;D

Smallmouth geography
Hey, I'm not sure exactly how far from me you are, but im in central Califonia and im catching smallies. Im only 350 miles from the mexican border. I wouldent be supprized if they inhabit texas.

where are the bass at what time of the day?
Ive been fishing with my friend in his boat for the last couple of weeks in the near by lake, and still cant seem to pull a single fish out of there. We fish rattle traps, cinkos, magic worms, jerk baits, and 8' diving craink baits on submerged rocks, tree's, mud lines, docks, and every type of cover you can think of. The lake is usually rough, windy, full of skiers, and is stained in color, and I believe that could be part of the problem. What am I doing wrong? We also fish a smaller lake about fourty minuets from that lake, and in the same conditions I caught 3-4 smallies, and a trout on a rattle trap. Please help me I'm having bass withdralws :-[. lol. ;D

What percentage of your bites are landed?
I land about 50% as of now, but I think that my hook setting skills could be better. I notice that when I get a bite im so excited that I just start reeling as though the hook is already set. I've been told that once you feel the "tap" "tap", your supposed to wait a second then set the hook. I see Bill Dance, and Roland Martin, and how they set the hook. Maybe thats the right way but it just seems a little too extreme. Do you have any techniques?

where are all the fish?
Get out the rifle! ;D Well The fish population is probably decreasing, but many other factors come into play. I used to think the only things that bass wouldent bite for was because of the weather or if they were spooked, but i learned a ton more watching bill dance. I learned that, weather, oxygen levels, baitfish supply, temp of the water, post spawn, bait size, bait variation, bait scent, and color are just some reasons they might not be biting. I often fish ponds, and have noticed that people get their "favorite spots", and "favorite baits", but trying to vary in bait size speed, and sometimes scent will help. Maybe a moderator could give you some better answers, but sometimes they just dont bite.

Found in the strange place
Ok, back when i was about 13 i was at my friends property which has a bass pond about a half mile from the house. So one day we were fishing fast plastic magic worms on this 20'x35' pond. Small right, next thing i know BAMM!!! this fish was heavy and lazy, in fact it wouldent come to the surfuace, I thought it could have been a bass caught in some weeds, but as this fish floated to the surface with my drag whining, i saw it. It was a 20lb catfish!!! I pulled it up on the steep embankment i was fishing on as my friend tried to get the stringer through its gills. Next thing i know it flops one foot in the air and rolls down into the water. So i go running down to it, thinking as though it was stunned to the point where it wouldent swim off right away, but the second it saw me at the waters edge, it darted of into the muddy water!!!!!!!! :'(

spotties wont bite!!!
Hey everyone, I was hoping on getting a few tips about getting bass to strike. I live in central california on lake Folsom, the water temp is around 71* sunny beautiful weather, winds of 3 mph, and im fishing off shore(unfortuantely) on an underwater man made rock wall in clear water. My problem is, i see some bass here and there, but they just dont seem interesed. I was using a rapala "clown" jerk bait, and i saw a good two pounder dart at it then it kissed the lure and darted back, the same fish did this for ten miuets until i got fed up and left. I know that my appearence at the waters edge could be spooking her, but what could i do to get those deeper 20' deep bass to bite? Thanks!
