  1. i agree but he said it was just frosting. i've caught too many fish in early morning weather like that to not go if given the opportunity. now the dead of winter is a different story. i normally wait for the sun to pop up.
  2. i always like to go early. better to go and catch nothing than to not go and miss what might have been a fishing bonanza.
  3. i honestly have no favorite fishing weather. i love to fish when it's 105 degrees and when it's 35 degrees. when it's super hot i get sunburned and bugs bite me and when it's really cold i get windburned and ice builds up in my guides. as long as the water isn't dried up or frozen i'm out there slinging a lure. it seems like those are the two times of the year that you'll run into the fewest people fishing around you. like the old saying goes "a bad day of fishing beats a good day of work".
  4. i live near the potomac river and the baby 1 minus is a legendary crankbait for this area. my experience is that they aren't very well made and that they don't last long(especially the finish) but they catch fish like a champ. seems like the fish around here just love that bait.
  5. welcome to an abundance of information.
  6. Exactly.....All 20 of my baitcasters are LH...There was a book published on this topic called Powerhand Baitcasting by Rich Forhan in 1997... Tight Lines All!!! i'm right handed and prefer right hand retrieve casters. i have more control over precise movement of the reel handle when cranking with my right. and about casting with my left hand.....i don't. i cast with my right and switch hands before the lure hits the water. it's become second nature. do whatever feels comfortable.
  7. i've gotten used to the traditional ways......left hand spinning and right hand b/c. i tried to use my brother in law's left hand retrieve caster and it didn't feel right. i'm sticking to casting with my right hand and reeling with it also.
  8. black with large blue fleck
  9. smallmouth do fight harder but i prefer to fish the locations that l/m tend to hang around. i just love the calmer water, lily pads, grass or whatever. places you need a mh rod with at least 12lb. test. that's why i'm a die hard l/m fan.
  10. i live in MD. even with the weather in the upper 90's and reaching the 100's lately i have still caught many bass in skinny water. less than 4 ft. just yesterday it was 90 and i landed a 4 1/2 lber. in 3-4 feet of water. i've been having great success casting a fat ika parallel to the shore and steadily reeling it in. not fast just steady. let it bump the rocks, weeds, sticks, twigs whatever. every other turn of the handle i'll twitch the rod to get the skirt fluttering. it's been like magic for me this year.
  11. not very often. most of the places i fish have 1 or 2 spots that i know are good for a fish or two.
  12. i go fishing....just make sure to clean the ice out of your guides. the fish are still there. snow storms can be very productive times for fishing.
  13. aaron martens. something about the guys attitude and the way he fishes amazes me.

  15. just picked myself up a new pair of revo glasses 2day
  16. normally i would but we've had an enormous amount of rain in MD. there have been evacuations and flooding in several areas. if the weather is decent this weekend i'll hit the water.
  17. got my b-day package in monday. my b-day isn't for about 2 weeks but what do yo do. in the box came a new set of pliers, digital scale, LC b-mh buzzbait, LC gunfish, and a quantum tour reel. now if the rain would stop.
  18. That's what I'm talkin about ! nothing better than setting the hook and feeling like you just got yourself hung up...that is until line is peeling off of your reel.
  19. many on this board seem to be ditching the senko because it has become wildly popular. at least thats how it seems to me. i've caught way too many fish on senkos to give them up. just don't get caught up so badly that you refuse to throw out anything else. you said that you used the 4" model. they worked for me also but i caught more on the 5"
  20. bassmaster and bass times
  21. to me the bait monkey is the urge to buy things that aren't "needed" for fishing but things that you really don't need at all but just "have to have" because this new crankbait will get the fish that your 1st 396 cranks won't.
  22. could need to speed up or slow down. you need to try different retrieves to see what will get the fish to strike. sometimes they are only slashing at the bait. they may not be trying to hit it.
  23. Md. state record is only in the 11 lb. range. anytime i hook something 3lbs. or bigger i'm happy. my largest catch is a touch over 7 lbs. i caught it at a small local state park pond.
  24. personally i prefer most any saltwater fish over freshwater when it comes to what tastes good. rockfish and flounder are two of my favorites. i just think that they have a sweeter less "fishy" taste.
