  1. 100% depends on both the lure and application. The spinner bait he is using in that video has a stout single hook and trailer hook, once you have hooked up with a fish with that setup, pretty much the only way he is gonna throw it is if you give him any relief of pressure. The same way you dont pull too hard with small/fine hooks, you have to make sure you pull hard enough with the stout ones.
  2. very pretty.
  3. Honestly, so many of them are stand up guys, I would have an easier time telling you who I don't like. Which, even then, is hard to do.
  4. When the wind blows tournament day everyone with half a brain catches them on erie, give me a bright sunny day with ZERO wind every time. Only the strong survive.
  5. I have heard waaaaay too many bad things about spiderwire FC, random breaks, impact breaks, etc. Too many great options out there to settle, if you want another purefishing brand, trilene 100% pro grade FC is fantastic. The other brands people have mentioned are good too.
  6. What someone legally does with their legally caught fish is up to them, stop whining.
  7. where I fish you better check your last 5+ feet of line lol
  8. Yea, I own 3 symetres, and after 5 months of light use all 3 started to bind, I sent them back (paid my own shipping) they "fixed them" then sent them back to me. After 2 months of fishing they are binding again. Shimano knows this is a fairly common issue with multiple lines especially symetre and will only repair within the year. Now I paid $100 a piece for "quality" reels that wont last over 1 season of moderate use. Done with them.
  9. I am in the boat as many others, as soon as I detect I am setting ASAP. Fish don't have hands, the longer you wait, the longer they have to reject it. That being said, there are some days where a delayed hook-set is necessary, but that is only if I have determined a quick set is not working, which is rare.
  10. Doesn't look uncommon to me, standard variation of a largemouth's color.
  11. ouch, it happens though. Chautauqua is so much fun to fish, love it.
  12. Pretty much the same guidelines as throwing a worm the same way, except maybe picking more crawfish like colors, but other colors can be great too. I like green pumpkin w/ purple flake, watermelon seed, really any greens and browns with occasional blacks, whites, chartreuse, shad, etc.
  13. Good job man, not quite 3 but a healthy looking fish. I spent all day yesterday in my college club tournament only to catch a 13.5" fish that only weighed 14oz. Very skinny fish, but was happy because the lakes we fish sometimes catching even one is a challenge, and plus I got him on a technique I'm not experienced in. What is your official personal best?
  14. All colored braid will fade, doesn't change anything. Braid will stay on my reel until there is not enough to left to fish properly, even if that means years of use.
  15. With minimal practice, the uni-uni, blood-knot, and Alberto all take about the same time/difficulty. Alberto will win a head to head every time against the other two, test it yourself at home. They all have their own critical step to which if not done correctly, may weaken or fail, so improper tying should not factor into the evaluatiion of the knot. A good leader knot should never come undone or break unless you cut the line with scissors, if it breaks even when you pull straight back trying to break your line, it makes leader use way less practical. With the Alberto, your leader will break near or at your lure if you intentionally break on a snag or whatever, never at the knot if tied properly. Now the aforementioned critical step to all of the knots is important, and for the Alberto, that is making sure your tag enters back through the loop the same way it entered. The major mix up here is that when making wraps its not uncommon for the loop to move or flip over while you are focusing on the wraps, which disorients the "correct" way for it to pass through the loop. There is an easy way to check if you passed through correctly before cinching but I will have to make a video to show/describe it properly, which I can probably do this weekend. With all that being said, the uni-uni is completely fine and works for many and did for me for some time, but the Alberto is just as easy, and stronger. Stay tuned, I'll make a video on the Alberto hopefully this weekend.
  16. ick. I would not eat one unless my life depended on it
  17. Completely agree. If you can tie a knot correctly to the point where it will hold until a relatively high breaking strength and not unravel or break due to user error while tying, the knot itself should never be a weak point. I get worried 10x more about abrasion on the line and nicks. This also includes retying if it hasn't been retied after an outing or two just in case of fatigue. A correctly tied knot will hold near the breaking strength of the line (ish). My point is that if you are breaking correctly tied knots, chances are you aren't using the right angling/landing techniques appropriate for the strength of the line you are using, aka drag, horsing fish in on light line, etc. I personally use the San Diego jam knot for these reasons: 1. High strength with all line types 2. No slip with braid, no cutting itself with fluoro 3. extremely easy and fast, average takes <10 seconds ish to tie. For splicing two lines Alberto's knot about beats them all.
  18. Pretty nice price. I prefer rattles most of the time.
  19. Take that jig and put on the exact senko you were catching them on, on as a trailer. It will help your confidence because it is the same senko + a skirt. If you know of a lake or pond where the fish are stupid aggressive and its easy to catch a lot all of the time. Go there, use nothing but things you don't have confidence in.
  20. I will admit that chatter-baits have replaced big spinner-baits (in shallow water) for me, but I tell you what a 1/4oz spinner for burning/numbers can rarely get beat. It will always get time when the conditions call for it which to be honest, is a lot of them.
  21. If they don't slap a mark up price on to it just because it is "different" I'd certainly give it a shot. Love me some 832.
  22. With the knot or knots that you have likely used forever with mono, it is possible and somewhat common for certain knots to not be compatible with braid. Due to the slickness, some knots will slip way before significant pressure. I personally would recommend learning the sandiego jam knot, it works with all three major line types (braid, mono, FC) and is both easy and very strong. With that being said palomar and the uni are still very popular with braid and work just as well. The thing you have to be careful with these two knots is when tied with FC, the FC can cut itself due to the way the wraps cinch. Completely agree.
  23. no matter the size, I love me a pretty lookin' smallmouth
  24. Yea it isnt uncommon for me to hook smaller fish through the mouth into the eyes on jigs/spinners.
  25. not sure if serious
