  1. Last year, I tried to fish new techniques. I knocked quite a few baits off my list, but there were three that I couldn't get bit on. They were: chatterbaits, spook-style baits, and frogs. I threw them and threw them and threw them but I couldn't get bit. I didn't throw them in the trash, I kept fishing them out of frustration and desperation more then anything else. And, you know what happened? Fishing lots of different baits has really helped me become a better and more versatile fisherman. Go out there and gain some confidence in new techniques guys! It'll pay off.
  2. I'm planning on staying with the Dredge brush jigs. Love those things.
  3. I'm seeing "Rapala" "Flipping Sticks" "7'6" and "Telescoping," and I'm thinking I probably wouldn't. I don't know about the product personally but I would stay away from a telescoping flipping stick.
  4. Here's to 2016!!!!
  5. I have found Strike King and War Eagle spinnerbaits to be all I need.
  6. I just picked up a Luck E Strike RC jerkbait and really like it.
  7. Nice work! Skunked today but I sure gave it my best effort. I practically could have fished in my front yard with all the rain I've been getting.
  8. I have no regrets or cons for 2015. I lost some big bass, but I caught even more and I learned a ton. My highlights included: -Catching two 5 pounders and a 7.12. -Fishing jigs and texas rigs nonstop -Learning to target big bass -Learning to slow down and fish an area thoroughly -Fishing the Ned Rig 2016 Goals: -Jerkbaits -Crankbaits -Spinnerbaits -Chatterbaits -Big bass I wrote this a year ago: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/why-we-fish.html . Never would have imagined the things I was able to knock off my list in 2015. Here's to 2016!!
  9. On further research, turned out that was filmed for a movie. Still pretty awesome though.
  10. I have found matching the size is much more important than matching a color. If the bass are feeding on small minnows, I just switch to a really small baitfish profile. I don't really worry too much about the color.
  11. I'm pretty ruthless about taking stuff out; when you're a bank fisherman, you don't want a 25 lb. bag weighing you down. I just cut mine down to 10 lbs.
  12. Lol, I had to go 45 minutes away to find a good one.
  13. Jig heads are designed for different tasks. "casting jigs" will probably have a streamlined head designed to go through cover. Football jigs are meant to be dragged on the bottom.
  14. Just went to DSG tonight, fantastic deals. I'm talking about Rage tail shellcrackers, strike king spinnerbaits, livetarget & gary yamamato hard baits, Excalibur liplesses and squarebills, rapala baits, terminal tackle, and a ton more all with 25-50% off, and then another 25% off already marked clearance, and then one rack was buy 2 get 1 free. If I hadn't spent a lot of my Christmas money already I could have walked out the door with a whole lot more than I did.
  15. Holy cow that's insane!
  16. I was gifted an old 5'6 custom made rod, (I think that qualifies as a pistol grip lol) and have been using it a lot. Took me a while to get used to it, but I like it a lot now. I like throwing spinnerbaits on it.
  17. Definitely the Berkley stuff and the $50.00 rods were cool too. I have some Christmas money burning a hole in my pocket....
  18. Was that an intentional pun?
  19. If you guys haven't seen it yet, this is a really cool look at what goes on inside the Berkley Lab: http://www.bassmaster.com/video/spirit-lake-iowa-inside-berkley-plant
  20. Yeah lots of rain on the way here in NC. Rained all last week too. The lakes and ponds are starting to look like chocolate milk....
  21. Dang, nice work Welds!
  22. Noticed the thread title got changed lol. I got new work boots, headphones and earbuds, a Cabela's gift card, an awesome bass fishing shirt, and other small miscellaneous items.
  23. I throw buzzbaits a fair amount in the warmer months. For colors, it's hard to go wrong with chartreuse/white or black. I find buzzbaits to be really effective, especially for big bass; and on top of that they're an absolute blast to catch fish on.
