  1. Go with some proven lures; spinnerbaits and dark-colored soft plastics are what I would start with. Try to understand how to the fish relate to cover in regard the current. That's important to remember with rivers/creek. Oh, and topwater action can get good as well.
  2. My only experience fishing for smallies, I used beetle spins and caught three. They're great river lures. I also love me a good old inline spinner.
  3. 4 inch finesse worm, flung weightless on a spinning rod.
  4. I switch hands, but the result's aren't pretty. In fact, they're pretty pathetic.
  5. I have a Rapala Clackin' Rap, which I like, but once I started trying Cordell Super Spots, I have stuck with them. To be fair, I have not tried every lipless on the market. But when a $3 bait catches fish for me (just caught my PB on one), why would I start buying a $12 one?
  6. I have some, have not caught a fish on them, but they look pretty awesome. Not only are they very realistic out of the package, they're amazing underwater. Rigging them can be a little tricky. Check TackleJunk's Youtube channel, he has a good video on how to rig them with a trick he learned from Alton Jones. If you don't watch the vid, it's essentially rigging the bait upside down. You can rig it the other way, but it has a tendency to slip down the hook. Give them a try.
  7. So one of the ponds I fish is strictly catch-and-release. They have people drive around the pond in golf carts to pick up trash and ensure that people are keeping this rule. One time, there was a guy and his kid fishing with nightcrawlers from the dock. They had a big cooler with them and they were keeping everything they caught to release in their little pond at their home. I certainly didn't grudge them some bluegill or turtles, both of which this pond has overdose of, but if they had caught a big bass, guess who would have lipped that fish out of the cooler, thrown it back in the pond, and moved across to the other bank? That's right, yours truly.
  8. My newest are 45 seconds w/ Rihanna and Kanye, as well as Moment Like You by LiaMarieJohnson.
  9. I used to be a minimalist, simply because I didn't have a lot of tackle. Now, thanks to the generosity of some older friends and BR members, I have acquired a little collection. Nothing huge, but I carry most of it with me simply because it fits into a backpack and I don't mind carrying a little more weight. I have three plano boxes: Box 1 has lipless crankbaits, shallow crankbaits, and my frog. Box 2 has a little bit of everything; skirted lures like spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and jigs, deep diving crankbaits, and topwaters. Box 3 has my go-to soft plastics. Everything from trailers to senkos. Terminal tackle as well. Then, I have four small Ziploc bags. I don't like the big freezer sized ones, but the smaller ones actually work pretty well. I have about 5 bags of plastics in each one. Bag 1 has bigger worms; Senkos, Curlytails, and a pack of Cut'R worms Bag 2 has craws and trailers; all sizes. Bag 3 has finesse baits, grubs, finesse worms, and the like. Bag 4 has flukes and SP swimbaits. There will come a point when I gain too much tackle to take with me. And I do leave a little behind. But for now, I'll take the extra weight. I am much more of a soft plastics guy. With hard baits, I don't have many multiples (with the exception of squarebills and liplesses.). Most of my hardbaits I have either found or been given. I don't buy them a lot.
  10. Find yourself a bridge. Was fishing a bridge with a Rat'L Trap (A big bridge) and you could hear the bait rattling under the water, thanks to the ceiling of the bridge which echoed or bounced back the sound. Pretty awesome!
  11. Ya know, the Missile Baits D Bomb, ya know, 1 oz. R2S Trash Bomb Weight, ya know, like droppin' bombs on 'em, ya know, with a Diawa Tatula, killer ya know. Don't ask Ish!
  12. All I know is that something about a red lipless crankbait slays them this time of year in the prespawn. I caught my PB on one about a week ago.
  13. I've been seeing some little bream and minnows around my pond.
  14. I use two-piece for transportability and it comes in handy, especially long family trips. Especially.
  15. Great job! You must have had a blast.
  16. What else should I expect? That guy is a monster! I should have gone with the St. John's river guys in the fantasy for Sabine. Both Shaw and Chris Lane are in the top five. Go figure.
  17. Wait, what did I win?
  18. I will not succumb to the bait monkey. I will not succumb to the bait monkey. I will not *!* Ow! Why did you do that?????
  19. I recently discovered the magic of jigs and rarely fish without using one sometime during the day. That's saying something, because I really love to fish soft plastics and I only have two rods. Here's some things that I have learned: You will never catch a fish on a jig if you don't throw it. You will up your catch ratio if you use a trailer Don't get stuck in a rut working it. Swim it. Hop it. Drag it. Find what the fish want. Colors are pretty. But the only two you "need" (!) are Green Pumpkin and Black/Blue. Try a GP/Blue for the best of both worlds. Trailer options are endless! Find one or two you like and stick with them. Little fish will eat them too . But the bigger fish will usually get to them first. Unless you fish very heavy cover, you don't have to get a H rod. I use a MH with 12 lb. mono and have no problems with hooking or fighting the fish. The jig is an awesome bait for pitching and flipping. Very compact. There's no wrong situation for a jig. They excel in almost any scenario. Once more: get out there and fish with it. You won't be disappointed.
