  1. Gander Mountain has a bunch of stuff on sale. Most notable is the Diawa Lexa Flipping Rod for 50 dollars, over 50 % off. If you're in the market for a flipping rod, this is a great deal!
  2. That's awesome!! Thanks for sharing.
  3. All those trick fish threads have taught you the game of guessing; you deserved the rod. Congratulations!
  4. I hate it when a magazine takes out my favorite parts. The last two Outdoor Lifes have not had, (1.) Benny Spies' Column or (2.) News in the sporting world. Why would I subscribe to OL for anything besides reading Benny Spies? C'mon, the dude is hilarious.
  5. Not to be smart, but seems to me that it's a "duh" situation: they're eating trout, you're throwing one of the most realistic trout imitations on the market. Win-win! Have fun.
  6. I remember Jacob Powroznik (however that's spelled) talking about his win in the elite series last year. He was trying to catch a 7 1/2 pounder on a bed. Time was running out until the weigh-in on the last day. He had worked it [the bed] with every soft plastic he could think of. He finally decided to try a white color. BANG. First cast, she ate it and he won the tournament.
  7. I actually use baitholder hooks (in larger sizes) left over from my live baiting days. The barbs on the shank help hold the worm, and they have a great hookup ratio. I don't mind EWG either but find that I prefer the baitholders. They're really cheap, too, and you get a lot.
  8. I'm planning on doing bed fishing as well, but I'm more talking about the prespawn before the actual "bed stuff" (lol). I've heard the females will be cruising around, eating a ton and getting fat. Any suggestions on the time before the reproduction?
  9. It got up to seventy/eighty yesterday, now it's raining like heck and we're supposed to be back into the 20s/30s and sleet.
  10. I've been trying the Ike's devil spear. Not that impressed. It might have good vibration but it doesn't have that good movement. I like just a swimbait or, more often that not, a naked spinnerbait.
  11. Thanks guys. I appreciate the help.
  12. Get an Abu Garcia Vengeance. Great rod for 50 bucks.
  13. If you're going to go the minimalist route; here's the way I started: get a popper, a lipless crankbait, some senkos, and some finesse worms. Those are great lures to start on. If you fish really weedy ponds, switch out the lipless for a spinnerbait.
  14. I've heard a ton about Falls Lake (NC) in the third week of march to early april being on fire. It'll take over 30 pounds to win a tournament there. I live right down the road but don't have a boat. I'm going to try to get in on the action by trolling the banks. What am I looking for (generally) in a good spot to fish for these prespawn females? I don't fish lakes, just small ponds, so I don't have a lot of experience with it. Any help appreciated.
  15. Oh, forgot to mention that I bank fish!
  16. I do just fine without one.
  17. Don't ask this question. It leads down dangerous paths. On the serious side, I'd say two of each kind (worms, craws, squarebills, spinnerbaits, ect.) should be plenty.
  18. Thanks. After all the times I got skunked, I would have been happy with a 10 incher. Instead, I got blessed with the second biggest bass of my life.
  19. 1. Raise Foot 2. Put on a life jacket 3. Stomp
  20. Nope, I only had my cheap trackphone that I use for outdoors with me, which won't upload pics to the internet. It was 19 inches and 3 1/2 pounds on the scale. It had a bigger head but wasn't that fat. Biggest fish I'd ever seen in that pond. Caught her on a 5-inch junebug dinger, texas rigged. Just one more reason to love senkos!
  21. I caught a chunk on a texas-rigged senko, dragging it over logs. If you have any logs in your pond, definitely give it a try.
  22. Went out today and caught a three-and-a-half pound bass! First fish of the near year was a beaut. It's been too long since my hands have smelled like bass.....it's a gooood smell.
  23. Same situation and state for me. I tied on a spinnerbait to cover water and (surprise) a senko. I've been spending a lot of time fishing deep the last few months, with no success. I'm going to try covering more water and seeing if I can get a reaction bite.
  24. Going fishing in a little bit. Who wouldn't, in 70 degree weather?
