  1. I think the albright knot is the coolest knot for some reason. Second would be the double uni connection knot with three tag ends. I think it's a lot like the San Diego jam knot. It's hard to beat the palomar though. Probably one of the strongest knots out there and yet such a simple knot.
  2. Make one from scratch. Just wanting a good base knowledge before I start really researching it.
  3. This is true as well. Cl- will bond with practically any metal available. The reaction not only degrades the material but would leave it open to rusting in the case of a nickle plated hook. So leaving trailers on your hooks in damp areas is pretty much just asking for trouble.
  4. Does it have that extremely solid feel to it like the old zllion. My bass pro doesn't have the tatula for me to handle and check out for myself. How else does it compare?
  5. haha I hear ya. I had a lady at a campground on the Arkansas River in Central Arkansas ask if I was fishing for musky one day. I don't think there is musky within a 6 hr drive from there. Major face palm.
  6. "It's a bit cold out here for fishing isn't it?" says the random runner wearing shorts and a tanktop. "Nice Kentucky!, Did you catch him on that Rapala?" It was a nice largemouth caught on an old Rebel Floating minnow. "But how you gonna get him back?" says the little kid as I let a good sized bass go back in the water. Not so dumb, but it was funny nonetheless. "What you gonna catch with that thing?" Says numerous hillfolk when they see lures like spinnerbaits, crankbaits, or anything other than a soft plastic lizard in my tacklebox.
  7. If I wanted to design my own plastic jerkbait that suspends nose down in the water, what would be your advice?
  8. Sunline FX2. Casts and manages better because it's round. It's eight strand modified PE makeup makes it superior to any other in abrasion resistance and longevity. It sinks, if you like that in a braid. It's color lasts a long time as well. 2nd to FX2 is Seaguar Smackdown for me.
  9. The first "big" fish I ever caught. Went a little over five pounds and came out of a little cow turd pond. I was fishing with a 6' medium action spinning rod with a broken tip and a arky lures salty craw hula grub on 6 lb test. I was determined to catch a big fish that day, and I did lol. I sat down there for hours focusing on dragging that grub as slowly and perfectly across the bottom as possible until, THUMP. Never had even seen a fish that big at that age. When I saw it jump out of the water my eyes got huge, and I remember muttering, "Please don't come off!" Haha good times.
  10. I don't know what type of lake you're fishing, but as the cold fronts have come and gone around where I'm fishing (Small, Shallow lakes with grass being the primary cover) they just seem to hold tighter to cover. Pitching to holes in thick grass and running swimjigs through as much grass as possible has worked out well.
  11. I have fished a lot of treble hooked baits with braid and without it. You really do have to be easy with a hookset. However, I have noticed you won't catch those fish that swipe at it or bite right at the boat near as much on braid with cranks or jerkbaits.
  12. Sooooooooo. Don't leave really salty lures attached to jigs in your tacklebox for long periods of time and you shouldn't have anything to worry about. You can leave them attached on your rod and probably in a dry tacklebox I'd guess, but really it's best just to rig your stuff on the water.
  13. In addition, this reaction could take a long time to occur under normal conditions. However, in a closed, damp tacklebox left in a warm area it wouldn't take near as long due to the high humidity eventually dissociating the salt into Na+ and Cl-. With chlorine being so reactive and unstable as an ion, it would react with the iron in the fishing hook forming FeCl3, which as I previously mentioned looks just like rust.
  14. hehe lets drink a tall glass of science on this one. Salt is an electrolyte in any solvent that it can dissociate in (dissolve) - water, humid air, or pretty much any solvent in which has the same polarity as salt, which is very polar since it's a compound formed by an ionic bond. NaCl + Fe --> Fe2O3 This isn't possible. However, NaCl + Fe3+ --> Na+ + FeCl3 is possible. Due to the reactivity of chorine (extremely reactive) and the fact that (sorry I don't have the activity series memorized for every element) iron might be more active than sodium when it comes to chlorine, corrosion COULD occur over time. Not rust. The corrosion is simply the forming of a new material (FeCl3) from the hook appearing as corrosion or even rust since FeCl3 looks a lot like rust. (Yeah I had to look up what FeCl3 looks like, but who cares)
  15. Fluoro from the boat. Braid from shore - just so I can get it unhung if I have to.
  16. I guess you could use the clear maybe? Either way I took one out and fished with it for an hour or two a couple of days ago. It's still on my rod out in the garage and it no longer has that silicone smell. I'm gonna try and find a faster method though.
  17. In April? That is the one time of the year I would almost guarantee five keepers on the Rock.
  18. This is a good idea. If you don't wanna fork out the cash for a guide and don't have good electronics on your boat, I'd definitely pick up a topo map like I mentioned earlier. Table Rock is a beast of a lake with lots of deep water. Everything looks good, and it can be pretty tough. I used to ride in other people's boats cove hoppin on Table Rock and Bull Shoals, and, yes, sometimes you'll do okay, but once I got my own boat and learned to read a topo, I really started to learn more about fishing those kinds of lakes and my results were much better as well. Get a topo map and learn to read one.
  19. Its pretty hard to drag a worm and foul hook one unless he bit the tail like you said. I'd count it. I've foul hooked a few ripping lipless crankbaits in shallow water. They sure do feel bigger when they're foul hooked don't they?
  20. Daiwa Zillion on Sale at TW for 200. Other than that I'd say Curado or Revo STX. People dog the STX due to some quality control issues, but I love it.
  21. Oh okay. Gotcha.
