  1. I have 2 combos as well. I am a minimalist when it comes to purchasing gear. Not that im cheap or anything but I love the familiarity I get with using one rod for multiple techniques.
  2. Yep lots of people do. I use a mh/f rod for swimjigs to lipless cranks and it works well. Most single hook lures will wokr good with one type of rod unless you are super picky and want to buy several rods for each type of lure. What do you fish mostly?
  3. Yeah one lost fish aint proof of anything really. Thanks catch.
  4. Hey catch what do you think about topwaters on this setup? I tossed my first hula popper the other day and got a bite in the first 30 seconds but, about 5 feet from shore he popped off. I wasnt sure if I was way to aggressive with the rod or the tip was too stiff for it. I suppose the drag could be let down a bit to make up for a somewhat stiffer tip then most topwaters are thrown with.
  5. Hey guys I just got a mh/f 7ft imx rod. I love the rod style, weight and sensitivity of it and I am gonna be using swimjigs, topwater, chatter, buzzbaits and lipless cranks. The only lure im not sure would be great on would be a topwater but, I have another rod anyways that would be ideal for topwaters.I really think the mh power is ideal for me since theres lots of cover and grass around in my lake plus some fairly good sized large and smalls. I have a 7:4:1 reel. So the rod has a good enough tip to drive a single hook through and can work baits fairly well. The rod handles the lipless really well and my arm no longer gets tired trying to rip and keep my crank above the grass. The reel will also help with the crank staying above the grass , get my fish back to shore quickly with those long cats and pick up slack line from working baits. So I just kind of wanted to bounce my idea and thought process of my setup with you guys and wanted to see if there was any major flaws in my thinking. I dont want to buy tech specific rods really but I do want a good all around rod/reel. Any advice or thoughts are appreciated.
  6. Nice job man! Looks like a small to me. Have fun fishing.
  7. Rod length is usually tech specific but even then its personal preference. For me I can go either a 6'6'' or a 7'. When I first started fishing I could not aim properly with my caster but as I learned to control my casts I could use any rod to give accurate casts. If you want max cast distance then longer rod is ideal but for nice and easy accurate casts id say 6'6'' is geat.
  8. Yesterday was a good and surprising day for me. I bought a hula popper black the other day and never in my life used a popper before so I didnt really know how to work the bait properly but, on my first cast popped for 30 seconds and I caught one of the few largemouths roaming my lake . My go to favorite lure that always works for me is my helsinki shad rippin rap crank. Fish line up to get hooked on that thing.
  9. I caught a 7lb small on a rippin rap helsinki shad. The bass in my lake love that lure.
  10. Just wanna say thanks to all who answered you guys are great.
  11. Ok so it looks like im gonna get a LW3 in scandalous shad and black/purple lw3. For trailers a kalins chartreuse grub 3.8'' to go with the lw3 shad and for the black/purple lw3 some BPS electric grape firetail 4'' and fat albert at 3''. The shad combo I think will work well since I catch the most bass on my rapala sexy shad lipless crank and the black purple combinations are more of a test but I have no problem buying things that may not work as expected since I need to find out what my bass really love in a swimjig.
  12. Thanks for all the info guys really appreciate it! So I am probably going to go with a living weapon 3 living rubber 3/8 oz and and either a strike king rage tail anaconda(junebug) or a zoom fat albert junebug as well. My water is dirty and green tinted so im thinking the purple/black/blue colors will work good. The last time i used a swimjig I really liked seeing the tails dip down of the grubs and spin but, I was using but the 1/2 oz jig sunk super fast so for me. I feel something lighter would be ideal to get a nice slow spin down. The anaconda is 7'' long though would that be to long you think? The albert is a shorty at 3'' so I guess my final question would be what determines trailer length?
  13. Ok ripple shad looks interesting. Do you modify the shad in anyway? The only reason im asking is since the shad has a head and what not do you cut that part off just to make it easier to put on the hook? Also what size should I use for that?Im thinking 3'' florida junebug.
  14. Hey guys I got my new rod, imx mh/f and want to try out some new stuff and see what the rod is capable of. I used a few swimjigs before but really I just grabbed crap off of the shelves at Dicks and stuck it together and said voila swimjig done.So heres what im fishing in, the water at its deepest goes about 12' and is green tinted not very clear at all and tons of veggie on the bottom. The lake has tons of bass lots of smalls and a few large here and there and then there are those d**n pickerels. Even though there are craws in my area I have never seen one craw in my lake. Dont want to go above 3/4 oz. I seem to have the most catches with chartreuse and black with another dark color combo(black/purple or black/blue). So what do you experienced swimjiggers recommend? Also when you recommend something if you could give brief explanations on how to work the bait or why you chose that swimjig/trailer would be great. Thanks if you answer.Any additional info needed let me know.
  15. Hey wife, yeah I had the mojo bass crank before so im not looking to get another really crap snapped in half (was a nice rod though). The pros seem very nice but I would not be able to get both gear ratios for two setups. I might just get a dedicated crank setup because thats what I truly love to fish with and it works all the time for me. Im answering my own questions now. But yeah i understand the whole sensitivity thing, you rlly dont need a super sensitive rod for cranks what I do like to feel is my crank swimming properly though.
  16. Thanks short for the info. Yeah its unfortunate about the morrum absolutely stunning but word seems to be it lacks polish that most reels have in the 300+ range. The XG is a super fast gear ratio and I think it would make my crank retrieves unpleasantly fast. At 6:1 I can either speed up or slow down at will with ease. How did the metanium feel to you or how does it rank with other reels you fished with?
  17. Hello everyone in the market for a new rod since my st croix mojo bass broke and am going to get a new reel with it as well. So I throw cranks a lot I mean a lot a lot. Around 90% of the fish I have caught were on cranks and other 10 maybe jerks. Now I love cranking but am going to say that I would probably like to explore other techniques as well jig n worm, jerks , and swimjigs. For cranks I throw medium 5-9 ft and some 10+ but only to get to that remaining three feet of water or so to scrape the bottom and most are around 5/8-7/8oz. So for reels im looking at the shimano metanium and the morrum zx reel. I found both on ebay for around 330 bucks. A third consideration would be the lew's team pro speed spool which is ~300 bucks. For rods I have the shimano cumara and the g loomis mag bass rod. The cumara is a crank stick specifically and after reading a few posts and articles most people have said that they find it a waste to go for a straight crank setup. I do agree with that to an extent but I do love me some crank. So for that specific setup I would probably go with the cumara and metanium (some reviews say the morrum is good for cranks some say no). For all around mag bass and metanium/lews. So the morrum is kind of the third wheel reel when considering an all around and specific crank setup. So what do you guys think about the setups? Any have personal or know someone who has used any of these products? Feel free to recommend other gear but I have been looking at these for a while. Which should I go for a straight up crankbait setup or an all around setup and which stuff to grab? thanks or any help you guys can give.
