  1. I would recommend against it.
  2. There are a lot of options and normally I use a 2000 daiwa. The sol advantage and certate all in the stable. If your using a very thin braid and dont want to use a backer a 2004 might better fit your needs and over time save you some money. If you later decide to run a flouro or copolly the 2000 has other spools that a quick change will fix. I use mine for crappie, dropshot for bass, and trout fishing. A 2000 series daiwa is a versatile tool.
  3. I like the spro bronzeye popping. The live target look and work good to. Green pumpkin and brown are my two main colors.
  4. You said you lived in Louisiana, do you still live far south. If you do then first choice would be a heavy power rod with braid 7 foot or a little more. This will give you the ability to fish in heavy vegetation that is the summer season in the south. There already wrecking frogs here in Memphis, and punching will be right around the corner. You also live where the bigger fish are and using the bigger worms 10" ribbon tails and 6" stick worms are heavy. It also opens up fishing smaller soft swim baits and paddle tails. Reel speed is a preference but you can do anything on a 6.3 because I do no problem. If your location is tidal you may seek rods with stainless guides and coastal reels. If you were north I would go a different direction.
  5. That's the funny thing when people want recommendations. One mans trash is another man treasure. It may be that I just want a more powerful rod. I fish almost exclusively st croix except for a few special rods and they are all powerful. My Phoenix x13 cranking rod is no slouch nor my white python. Other than spinning the st croix avid 66mf is my weakest rod. Asking if a rod is good is a lot different than recommending one. We can agree the 610mxf is a great rod. What we like it for is not the same apparently. It could be as simple as the reel speed. Fishing is like women we all like them different.
  6. The 610mxf does not fish a 4/0 ewg in a super fluke well at all. I lost a few fish testing this out. The 70mhf is a much better jig and fluke rod. My 74hf is a much better frog rod. The only moderate fast I have fished is my white python and that's not a st croix and way more powerful. The sc4 74mhf would be the blank I would want in your situation but I like full handles. If split grips float your boat it would be perfect
  7. Small mepps, rooster tails, small spoons, I like daredevil, little Cleo and mepps spoons. The original fluke with a 2/0 ewg hook is murder on the smaller bass, crappie and warmouth.
  8. Might check out the new small doughnuts. They look super nice. The mattlures shads and hardgills have to make the list...
  9. If using superhard and quenching you can get a lot harder. There are also oven tricks to go to the next level. I might give it a try but I had not considered coating effects. Maybe testing raw would give better test results
  10. After spending some time casting bullets I figured I would cast some jig heads. I keep reading how much better tungsten is than lead. I wonder if harder lead would be more sensitive than the really soft stuff. It would be more expensive but nothing in comparison to tungsten. Anyone ever test this.
  11. Rod power and action on a swim bait rod is about setting the hook. Your not playing these fish. Give a good hook set and get them in the boat. The hooks on a glide bait are not like the small hooks on a crankbait.
  12. From what little experience I have your first rod the area to splurge is on high quality epoxy and thread resin. Using something that will come loose or never go clear will frustrate the hell out of you once you finally get it right. Having a reel seat come loose or a handle come unglued will irritate you to no end.
  13. For jerkbaits I like a 66mf. For most other duties a 7 ish foot is great. For deep cranking where bombing a lure is essential to getting down and bottom time a 76hmf gets the nod. I use all of them from my kayak.
  14. Go outside the box and get a single piece motorcycle rain suite. For 50 dollars or there abouts you can stay dry and just put it on in about 5 seconds over what your currently wearing. You can make this more difficult and expensive if you want but why....
  15. And that you seem to be missing one of my go to Rod which is just a standard 7 foot or 7'1" medium fast. That is the most versatile rod in Your Arsenal and most cases. It can be used for jerkbaits crankbaits light Jigs worms. and just about everything. My second most commonly used rod is a medium light extra fast used for Drop shots 4 inch wacky rig worms Ned rigs and small spinners like Meps and rooster tails. I'm making the assumption that you live up north based on chasing walleye and sauger so the bass aren't double-digit monsters and you may be doing some River fishing as well.
  16. The mayor of Memphis relaxed the insanity and stated that getting out was good, just maintaining social discipline
  17. Used both the soft and regular yhb. The soft does cast further. Never had a real distance issue with casting... 10lb is more than you need with a jerk bait, strong enough to bend out any jb hook. 8 would be better.
  18. Not near as many as I have and I stopped buying them 2 years ago. And I don't really think that I need any more the problem is I always run out of the ones I use the most
  19. Considering that fishing is a Leisure sport I can't imagine that prices are going to go up the only thing driving prices up would be inflation. If people have no access money resale is also going to plummet
  20. My original steez is still my main reel. One could say my EDC
  21. Very fond of my ryoga. It's no LIN but I'll get in where I fit in.
  22. With the skyrocketing cost and lowering quality of cork you may want to find something you like instead of cork. If you're having a rod custom-built I highly recommend the new carbon handles their amazing
  23. That is their bottom line blade. They have an industrial line that is way better. It is carried on Amazon and costs more. I use one of the industrial blades for cutting acrylic and its great. They do repair blades but on cheap ones their disposable.
  24. Yes that's way to big. Flouro is heavy and will drag the bait down. I use 10lb yhb because it's almost neutral, but does sink very slowly. If you are trying to get deeper then that's entirely different.
  25. Swaivers for the price and action cannot be beat bbz rat is another for the price cannot be touched Mattlures hard gills or if you can find them the strong shad (i have never caught a huddleston trout fish)
