  1. If your waters are small the yak is unbeatable. 500 acre and less is where yaks thrive. Big water not so much.
  2. With casting something that heavy you must have something off on the daiwa. Might just need a good service and adjustments.
  3. It will take a decent size panel to charge a 31 group battery and most I would think are running 24v systems. The cost of that panel would worry me for theft
  4. I tried to fish a super fluke on my medium that I use for worms it just did not have the power I wanted to drive home that 5/0 hook. I plan to try the super fluke Jr and that may be better on a rod with less gusto. The super fluke already catches smaller fish so going larger to the magnum might be a better plan.
  5. the millionare has a lot of cool variants and you can stay out of the big money of the LIN's and Mono's. My favorite is the red gold RCS but the green gold is also very nice. The pink ito is not my thing but some like them. All half or less of the others and just as unique. The last reel if your into round that might be worth a check is a luna. My 253 is my main SB reel but the 103 is getting a lot of mod attention.
  6. That spinning setup is screaming for some drop shot and split shot action. They both use the same baits so its a two for one minus hooks. I am learning a fluke this year and a superfluke on a 5/0 ewg hook is a cheap way to add another technique to a mhf setup. I would run a leader of 15lb line but that should not be a huge deal. You could use those same hooks for pitching some plastics behind a 3/8ths oz weight. I would recommend two colors and two baits black blue and green pumpkin. One beaver and the second rage craw. Thats only four packs of baits and hooks that you already have from the flukes.
  7. Best tip for punching is find a smaller bait without a lot of appendages, which should reduce the total weight you have to use. Tons of video's out there denny brower might be worth watching.
  8. 40 lb braid should get you going, i would not go lower as the hookset during frog fishing is generating a lot of shock and lighter braid does not deal with that very well. Spro makes a smaller popping frog that i fish on a medium casting rod and 40 pound braid that may be worth a look.
  9. I use the mustad grip pin hook and they do very well on how long plastic last. It does tear up the heads taking them off but by that point who cares. The bait does not move and i get several fish per bait. When i switch out i cut the head of the bait in half, slop on the mendit and there ready to go again.
  10. I love a 66-70 rod in a yak. The shorter lengths on rivers is better where lake fishing it does not seem to matter. This is also the same as the style of the fishing done on these types of waters. You may enjoy a pistol grip rod if your working under trees and around a lot of lower to the water cover.
  11. Why not a alphas sv. It has a low ipt and handles the lighter lures very well.
  12. 3.8 I use the 3/0 owner twist locks. 4.8 I use the owner weight beast hooks. I would guess a 2/0 would work for the 3.3 but have never use them. Keitech maked little jigs to fish them with.
  13. I still have that on some rods and i have to say i like it just fine. Strange color but it does not seem to effect anything. Its now discontinued and that sux
  14. No that line size should be good. I have not had a rapid stop on mine but with 65 i dont think i will ever have issues. 50 will be good for frogs also.
  15. I feel there worth the extra money but i only buy from serbert so i dont know what others are doing. The wire point thing makes no sense to me because the craws i see and have held in my hand are not smooth and nice. Never had an issue but some people might not like it???
  16. I run 30 on my cranking rod. It's suffix and each line handles a little diffrent. I rUn 1/2 oz lures most and have not launched one into the sunset in the last three years. Just start off slow and break in the line and you should be good. Line might have just been on to tight. 30 is thin and does not shock well. 8 fiber lines are what I use most so not a lot of experience with 4 carrier. One consideration is worm drive speed. I upgrade to faster worm drives on braid reels
  17. Because cranking alway have the bait moving guides become critical to taking care of your line. I would choose rhe Abu in this case because of the guides. Having a ceramic in this senaio is most inportant
  18. For fun purposes nice gear is relaxing to fish and just enjoyable. I could fish plastics all day at 4 bucks and be fine. The heart breaker is a 4 dollar frog
  19. I fish the brush jigs in wood. They seem to work the best there for me. There is a jig for every purpose. ArKY is good all around. Flipping jigs are decent all around also. The wire tie is a nice option and I pay for the upgrade
  20. A 30 should do fine on a standard medium. A 40 needs to be on a beefy mh or h. A lot of guys in the sb game way overload their gear.
  21. I run my 40 on my frog rod which is a 735. I have 65lb braid on this setup and i throw it a long way as i dont worry about the braid snapping. I use the largest owner welded snap on this and my other hard baits like the black dog shell cracker g2. With large top waters i dont worry about visibility and just go strait braid. I do run a leader of 20 lb flouro or YHB on my bbz trout and baits that run sub surface.
  22. Yes stay very plain with the skirt and change the trailer. Starting very basic with any three including the ones you listed previously would work just fine. Just two would get you by in a pinch black blue and green pumpkin. Do not get all caught up with the possibilities and just try and make it simple as possible. This makes the choice and variations on the water easier and the cost wayyyyyyy down. I would say 3/8ths will work for everything unless your deeper than 15 feet and i dont see that in a pond. Two types of trailer a rage craw for action and a 3.5 inch beaver and your done.
  23. This is the ticket along with three colors. Brown, black and green pumpkin. I added the last one as i love it but the gman my fishing hero only uses brown or black. Get plain skirted jigs and add the wow color and sparkle with the trailer. This is a cheap and great way to start. I love the arky because it also skips so well when you up your skill level. Swim jigs are a little different for me, I have serbert make swim jigs in ayu and a shad color to match the hatch. More color is not more fish in the boat and presentation of the three colors mentioned will catch fish or is not the correct presentation and you need to try something else.
  24. I like to use the bobber and wet fly or small crappie jig. It lets them always do something as my boy has adhd and they continualy practice casting. The fly and small tube (1.75') catch everything from trout to bluegill and dont require a monster hookset. My son is a little older now so i have shifted him to a 4" wacky worm with a supper sharp owner thin wire hook. It may be a good way to go depending on how fast they pick up a hook set.
  25. I find a technique that i want to try and then pick up a few things to figure it out. I think it beats going totally random. Dropshot is one that i continue to work on and finding the right hook, the weight for the conditions and the correct equipment can either be fun or drive you insane. An objective based approach to me makes the most sense, and it give you direction based on what you want to try or accomplish. The ned rig is very popular right now so that is another direction that may be beneficial to check out. The baits in a box are fun if you want to discover new tackle, but may not fit your fishing style. Might be fun during the winter to kill the cabin fever.
