  1. My vote for famous is the keitech 4.8 fat swing impact and the shad impact. These are killer baits and everyone is trying to get in on the action. The megabass 110 is also famous even though i dont own one. Honorable mention goes to the duo pencil 110 and the lucky craft sammy. This type of lure requires some skill and will not be in every kid on the banks tackle box.
  2. I use 10 most often but have used 15 when i want it to run more shallow. The shift to 12 for this reason does not make a huge depth difference.
  3. That's dangerous teritory to wondrous in to. Summer bass are the hardest fighting and a smallie are great fighters add current will add to their chances. Learn to set the drag correctly and don't worry about how big the fish is until it's in the net.
  4. There are a lot better snaps out there and my favorite are the owner welded snap in the middle size. They are not cheap but two or three breakages a trip will loose a lot of lures, and i have never had a snap failure. The swivel is not needed unless your running spinner type lures which are not common in bass fishing. Ditch the swivel snap and a lot of your issues may go away, The other option would be to tie direct and in most cases may be the best answer. If your using a crankbait i like the oval split rings the best.
  5. With the low cost of mono go all out and swap the entire spool. This will keep the handling up and never have you run into a connection knot. The loss of even one good lure will be more than the re-spool.
  6. What has changed??? Is it just a lot hotter out side and the bass are going deep and trying to stay cool. Have you changed your standard presentation to adapt to this change. Are you frogging and punching the heavy mats or going deep to find the cooler water. The summer is the second hardest season for me next to winter. They are in the same spots during these two seasons and my deep game still requires a lot of work. I feel there is no secret lure but understanding and adapting to the current conditions. Now if i were to recommend a lure for the summer go with a +10 inch worm and give them a big meal to work with...
  7. The power in your 6 foot ugly stick is low and the action is moderate to moderate fast at best. The line is mono so you have all the stretch and give in the entire world. Use your hand to add additional pressure when you catch a larger fish, just like on a bait caster. I do this a lot and it prevents close to the boat disasters. Set your drag for a decent setting and then feather it in with your hand. If the bass makes a strong surge then let the drag do its job.
  8. Strange i run a lot of that bait and have never had that experience. They may have changed hooks, something cheaper or low on stock, as some makers do that. The kvd line to include the XD baits have a better hook than the regular series IMO. Maybe just a bad one of???
  9. It seems that people that do good work these days have huge lines and it takes a lot longer. Those people who suck can get you right in. This is not always the case but there is also a busy season and that can effect your wait. You will know by talking to other boaters in your area if your experience is normal for the area. Some areas are better than others but is it very area/region specific.
  10. I use a head lamp 3aaa powered. Works great.
  11. Um no. If your being dangerous its just you making a choice for others that is not responsible. Remind me to never get into any car or boat with you ever!!!!
  12. I make the shift to the beast on the 4.8. It seems to do a lot better job taking care of the bait for multiple fish. I also buy all three sizes of the twist locks and use the largest i can with the bait.
  13. Check the drag spec for your application. The sv105 might not do what you want for salt. Most of the sv reels will work for what you want just have to find a saltwater safe version. If you find a zillion coastal and put a lighter spool in it, may do what you want.
  14. Like a buzz baits early in the am. Work it as slooow as you can manage and still have it working.
  15. I have seen the ipt mentioned in a lot of threads but in this case has no critical change to my issue. The sv103 uses the same spool as the steez and those are the reels I use most. Even my regular zillions have a simular size spool. I can see how some people might not understand or even be comparing simular reels.
  16. I like a short rod for Sammys and poppers, 66mf for those. For frogs that 735c dobyns might be good. So many awsome rods. How about the mb XX PP, or a steez xbd. I would recommend a 7.1 speed reel. A zillion variant would be first choice. The smaller rod the 7.2 sv alphas would be good. It's what I run.
  17. TW sale is 15% off everything and i just grabbed another sv103 for 195 out the door> woot woot
  18. The smaller baits is what I was talking about. The shad has been sold out a long time with no solid delivery dates. TW has them on a backorder list a mile long.
  19. Are these baits the 22 cartridges of the bass world??? Not anywhere in stock but plenty to be had if you want to pay 3-4 times retail from scalpers. Dam shame.
  20. I have been looking at the X-13 blank from phoenix for the same thing. I currently have a dobyns 764RM rod and its not heavy enough for dd-22 and larger baits. The x-10 got rave reviews on TT and its a blend of glass and carbon.
  21. Hard to argue with a guy like aaron martins. Most of the things he mentions are not the way i fish, cruising the bank at 2 miles an hour for one. Pro fishing is a different game and they have to be fast always. If thats the way you fish then they would be invaluable. The other consideration is i am in the back of the boat or in a yak so i dont get to cast forward. That changes a lot IMO. I think have one or two as a tool in the box is not a loss.
  22. Been using mine for a while now, was just sitting in the box and have had a decent amount of hits on it. Now that the ploper is out this bait will be quickly forgoten. My only gripe is the rear treble fouls the rear prop eaisly. Has anyone tried to do a single rear hook mod. Yes I know this tread is forever old.
  23. Got a few I would like to do so very intrested in the result. Also understand that they will not be that durable are you going to epoxy???
  24. I stumbled onto one of the jigskin videos on Facebook and can't believe there is not more on here about this. One search hit. Is this not a thing???? I checked out the price of custom painted baits and this seems like a great idea. Maybe I will take a hit for the team and share my experence.
  25. I use 6.3 almost all the time. Had to see what the hype was all about and I made the plan to swap that reel with braid and pitch and punch after the first outing. Seems like a dedicated setup for that speed. I am ok with having one but don't plan on getting any more...
