  1. I have used a lot of different types of flouro and the best value i have found is p-line 100%. It costs just the same as the other good lines like seaguar except you get 250 vise 200 yards. I get three good fills on 15lb which is what i use on my jig rod. It seems to be the best value and if you have extra it makes great leaders. Yo-zuri is fantastic and i use that a lot to!!!!
  2. Did you catch that today, i had a good bit today as well!!!
  3. I think a 3 power would work well and i throw them on a 743 spinning with a weighted swim bait hook. I would also consider a 4 power like the 734 champion if you wanted to be able to run a small 1/4 or 3/8th swim jig. I like mine more powerful than others because missed fish or coming unbuttoned because you did not drive the hook home sucks. I just learned my lesson again with a superfluke.
  4. I have the old hhs tool and have yet to wear it out. I dont take the pin out often as i remove a shield off the bearing the first time then just add a drop of oil. I got the husky multi screw driver tool ant its money. It has hallow ground bits, but i cant find it any more.
  5. I had this happen last week when I started learning to fish a fluke. I had a 5/0 hook on a st Croix medium. Thought I was good because Croix are normally more powerful and I lost my one bite about a five pounder. It hurt but I learned. If you learn from your mistakes then you get to move forward and head out with a new plan. Soooo happy that did not happen during a tourney. That's why I learn during fun fishinges and stick to what I am good at when points are on the line. Truth be told not even that helped on my last event.
  6. Steez or sv103. Depending on your budget.
  7. Super fluke and swim jig both work wonders to simulate more natural prey. 4 inch swim baits normally get murdered.
  8. I was a reefer also. Helped with the wife's depression during the long CT winter. Got into guns and fishing and I found two guys that bought both my 90 and 125. Think about it every once in a while and most likely do it again when I retire.
  9. I love the jdream and the zillion pe special. The red and blue one only the gold and blue does nothing for me... You can get this zillion new on the bay... IZE makes some great stuff also like the red and gold ize millionaire
  10. I would havery to pass. I have an 806 and I am not fond of a rod that long. My 7'6" cranking rod is as long as I will go again. Might try a dobyns 795 but longer than 8 is a storage and transportation nightmare. I am sure some proom will start telling us that we have to get these but I am not biting.
  11. I think the most inportant part of the boat is the TM. If the hull is sound and you have spent the time and effort to get everything else dialed in then a motor swap would make sense. IF its just one more problem with the boat, then i dont think so.
  12. TN is a wonderful place to fish, welcome to BR and ready to hear about your new PB!!!
  13. only 500 i can barely find a decent reel for that much. i would get a sv103 from tw and pair it with a Dobyns Sierra Series Casting Rod 7'3" Heavy and some 50 lb suffix 832.
  14. The other rod that may interest you is the Megabass xx perfect pitch. It has the diversity to run jigs, frogs, swim baits and even punch. It is two inches longer at 7'2" but has the JDM style with no real colors so you can accent with the reel. Its on my short list to pick up and it has a full handle which a lot of JDM rods don't. The 300 price tag will leave you with a larger amount to spend on the reel to pick up something truly unique.
  15. MHF is the most versatile rod around. Funny how fast the tide can change on reels. There are just as many daiwa fans as shimano, and if anyone tells you one is better than the other they are just selling you something. Both make a solid quality product and a lot of people stick with what they know. There are some real classy aftermarket people to check out and special options that were limited release. TD ito's are amazing, DEPS, the z pride is very intresting, my partner just got one and loves it. One of my favorite reels is a td ito spinning reel. Might be worth the time to look around... http://japantackle.com/casting-reels/megabass/low-profile-casting-reels.html http://japantackle.com/casting-reels/shimano.html The JDM stuff is more high end and has stuff like shallower spools and more bearings.
  16. I remove the ring to reduce the total amount of things going on with the lure. The owner snaps provide enough room for the action to be correct. If you left it on I don't think it would matter and on some of my baits like the rapala shadrap I do leave them as its a pain to get the snap on the original hangar.
  17. We had to run home to our family's. We both stretch to make the events and run home to make sure the kido's are ready for school on Monday. Its worth all the pain with the wife to be out there though!!!
  18. Yes that's a budget and it's reasonable imo. What speed reel? If your going plastics only a 7.9 would be great but if you want multi purpose 7.1 might be better. Check out the tt review on the steez xbd rod. It is very versatile and lite. I still see them new around 475. The muted build would give you the chance to get any color reel you want. I think the green IS megabass 71 looks good together. If your more into jigs then maybe an NRX or a st Croix legend might be better. I feel a custom build should be done only if you cannot find what your looking for. Resale sucks on customs. A st Croix SC 5 or nfc hm would be the first to blanks I would look at, or maybe a k2.
  19. Try a blade bait as they are cheap and work. The red rattle trap and a deep jerkbait like a stayee 90 or a kvd deep. Pull don't jerkbaits in 30-40 degree water. Pick up two one in a solid color and one clear like ghost minnow. If you have to have a third get a reflective one with silver or gold. Later they will move up but start deep on the primary points and main lake structure
  20. Use owner snaps and learn the uni knot. You can use that knot in so many ways. If you only learn one the uni will do it...
  21. I would snorkel for it. The 700 would be worth it. I would do the same for a rod and reel setup. Have dry clothes waiting and the car warmed up.
  22. I like 40 for contact baits and 30 for cranking. I currently run 65 for frogs but plan to step down to 50. If I had to choose one for everything it would be 40.
  23. I got smoked on tourney day. First time in the state to catch nothing. Partner had no keepers but got two. Saw one fiver did not hang out for weigh ins. Rough
  24. What a perfect day to be out. Spending the day getting ready for the tourney tomarrow and helping around the house.
