  1. And of course this is for largemouth bass(applies for spotted, and smallmouth too). If it were for crappie for example, a 12 inch crappie is a pretty nice crappie. I've caught no telling how many bass in the 10-13" inch range, its just crazy how much parity there is between say 12 inch largemouth bass and 12 inch crappie.
  2. Is there a certain length threshold or a pound threshold, such as under 18 inches, or under 3lbs? Of course there is no real universal answer for this, it is just really subjective to goals and desires of the individual. Me? Well as for me, anything under legal limit in my area (15 inch minimum to legally possess) I could consider a dink, but ill go with any largemouth under 12" to be a dink. It doesnt really matter to me what kind of fish it is,anything over 12" will put up a good fight, especially on light tackle. Again, this is really subjective and no set standard. Color me happy when I land a bass over 12" even though most places its not a "keeper" until it reaches 14-15". On a side note, as far as eating goes, I agree with one of the posts in one of my other threads that generally the closer to the limit (on the legal side of course), the better eating largemouth are.
  3. Sheesh, I'll have whatever you are having, that's amazing!!!! Many people, myself included dont have a personal best over 3 lbs max, and yet you've landed a boat full of 4 lb and bigger fish..... well done.
  4. Pretty much every bass over 12 inches is a win for me, not a bad first December bass if you ask me.
  5. You hooked it, fought it, landed it, so it counts.
  6. If something like that doesnt get your heart going, you better grt to a doctor!!! Wow.
  7. Bass are amazing creatures aren't they? True, bona fide predators. Ive seen video on YouTube of essentially a bass that had tried to eat another bass almost the same darn size. It even managed to get its head in its mouth, lol.
  8. shoot, id be absolutely thrilled if I ever even hooked a 5lber.
  9. Now those are heavy hitters!!
  10. Nice. That ought to bring you some good results when you use it.
  11. I've had quite a few hard hits from various kinds of fish, but by far the hardest hit I ever had was almost 2 months ago when I hung what probably would have been my personal best bass had I managed to actually grt to hold it. Slow retrieve of the panfish assassin, and BAM, it was like getting slammed by a defensive lineman in football. Good thing I had a good hold of my rod, or else it woulda taken it up the river. Sheesh, I will never forget that one, it definitely wanted it! Still kicking myself for grtting over eager and trying to horse it up such a high distance from thr pier to the water, got a good long look and it made my 16" bass I posted a pic of, look small. I believe one could have just about put a baseball in its mouth!!! Anyway back to the topic, it clearly put its weight into that strike, I've caught numerous 10-12 lb cats and a 19 lb carp that didnt slam the bait/lure THAT hard. It even kinda scared me and caused me to say a four letter expletive because I was not expecting that in the least.
  12. Awesome, 12 solid legal limit fish in that time frame is very good. Heck I'd be ecstatic to catch half that many keepers in the same time frame.
  13. awesome!! Even if they are on thr smaller side, that is still good practice and information to jot down in the notebook!!
  14. that makes two of us!!
  15. Oh and what a sweet way to break your new rig in!!
  16. I've got a medium action spin casting rod that would probably be my best bass fishing rod out of what I have. The reel has been good, but I caught a bass on it earlier this year and the anti reverse function has been messed up since then some how. 6'0 Medium Ugly Stick with Shimano RX2000 spinning reel.I either need to repair it, or replace it. Id preferably like to replace it, as it has been a versatile reel for me, it's seen use catfishing in my uncle's pond, standard float hook and sinker for bluegill, 6 lb line for crappie with 1/16-1/32 jig head. For catfish and bass I have equipped 10-12 lb test stren mono.
  17. Loving all the advice, lots, and lots of great choices.
  18. And what about the hard plastic department? What would be a good route to go there?
  19. Thanks!! Split shot sounds like a very attractive option, and I have heard good things bout the wacky rig and Senkos, see quite a few people on here that really love senko, so I may go that route as plan A.
  20. Im definitely a novice bass fisherman, but I had quite a bit of success on panfish jigs this year in terms of catching bass, lost what would have no doubt been my personal best about two months ago..... im strictly a shore fisherman and my "honey hole" has a lot of rocks on the bottom, but there are also several places around here thwt look like they have some potential thst are grassy/ weedy, and others thst have brush and structures such as fallen logs. What would be a good step up for me in terms of lure choice when foshing these areas? It'll be a while before I get to go again due to health, but just want to expand my arsenal.... certainly ain't going to have success or catch anything of you dont at least try, right?
  21. Thing I liked the most about it was that little panfish jig I caught it on showed that it doesnt have to always be flashy, complicated, or expensive to catch decent fish. Just a simple slow and steady retrieve and a upward twitch of the rod every so often and bam. Seemed to work just as well in cool windy conditions as it did in warmer calmer conditions. Perhaps maybe I can take that jig and use what I learned from it and apply it to bass-intended jigs and hopefully catch some on that set up?
  22. Very good day!! I see all three "main" species in those pics!! Lmb, sms, and spotted, nice, very nice!!
