  1. I'm from Murray originally though I don't live there anymore.
  2. You're in luck because PSL offers great fishing. Make sure you hit the small ponds that are all over the county. One thing I always had success with was fishing the ponds along the turnpike and I-95. Make sure to park your car a good distance away from the road, though. Also, make sure you visit the inlets down in Stuart and Jupiter for excellent saltwater fishing.
  3. You can fish almost anywhere in central Florida. There are TONS of small bodies of water that are easy to get to that you can bank fish from. Renting a boat won't even be necessary. You can catch great fish almost anywhere. As for alligators, they are a fact of life in Florida. You shouldn't have any problems with them as they tend to stay away from humans. Make sure you keep an eye open anyway.
  4. Guys, I'm heading to Yellowstone for a week long camping trip and am considering getting some new binoculars before the trip. I'll also use them to hunt. I can't afford to invest much (around $100) so I'd like some advice. I've been looking at the Bushnell XLT Trophy in a 10x28 http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B003E8RGU2/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new For only $70 this looks like a steal, but I'm wondering if I should instead look for a 10x42. Can you guys tell me if there is an appreciable difference between the two? Or do you have other recommendations? Thanks, Jason
  5. Sorry guys, but this post had me shaking my head. Not good sportsmanship nor is it being a ward of the environment.
  6. Hi guys. I haven't been posting much since our move to Kansas, mostly because compared to Florida it is a fishless wasteland. Thankfully, the next two weeks find me in Lake Placid, Florida, where I can actually find largemouth bass. The fishing has been a little tough, but yesterday I saw a large fish follow a swimbait all the way to where I was wading. I went back today with her in mind. Using a 1/2oz Strike King Red Eye Shad, I made a long cast and was yo-yoing the lure when she hit and started peeling line off the reel. I knew the fish was of good size and got a little nervous when I felt her coming topside to breach. She jumped twice, which always scares me when I'm using treble hooks, but thankfully she was well hooked. Regardless, I found myself thinking out loud when I said, "Get the rod down, Jason!" I brought her to me and then realized there was no one else around. This forced me into taking a couple crummy pics, but hopefully you'll enjoy them anyway. I got the hooks out quickly and released her to swim away. It's good to be home.
  7. I moved to Kansas, home of the 20oz lunker, what can I do? *Sigh* I miss Florida. I wanna come home.
  8. Doug knows this drives me nuts. I love Florida and miss it dearly, but the sound of someone calling my beloved crappies "specks" drove me up the wall. I live in Kansas now, where they pronounce the fish correctly and instead butcher the names of everything else.
  9. Nice! It's hard for anything to compare to a jack when it comes to fighting.
  10. I am a graduate student pursuing my doctorate in American history, with a focus on Native American history.
  11. I have a Labrador/Dachsund/Chihuahua mix (I know, don't ask). My wife adopted her while she was in law school, but she is my dog now. Her name is Lucy and our oldest son just loves her. I couldn't imagine a better family dog.
  12. She's a pretty girl. Great color. LOVE the eyes.
  13. Thanks guys. Trip is coming up and I hate to think of being two weeks without my gear.
  14. We're going home to Florida for a few weeks this summer. Obviously I plan on fishing, but the last time we went it cost $100 each way to ship my rods in a rod container. Do you guys know of a more cash friendly way to ship my gear?
  15. In light of my post the other day, I felt it only fair to share the complete failure that was my attempt to take my 3 yr old to the movies. http://jasonsrules.com/2011/07/28/how-not-to-take-your-kid-to-the-movies-and-actually-see-it/ Lemme know if you've had similar experiences Tallydude
  16. Wait, they're not all crazy, bipolar stalkers? (kidding)
  17. I may have to do a post dedicated to small apts then. Glad you liked it!
  18. I thought you guys might enjoy this. http://jasonsrules.com/2011/07/27/how-to-hide-from-your-wife-and-children/
  19. Thanks Bluebasser- haven't heard of fishing atlas but will check it out!
  20. I'm a little late in posting this, but as many of you know we recently relocated from the bass friendly haven of Florida to the bass friendly haven of... Kansas. Learning these new waters has been a challenge to say the least. I was fortunate enough to realize a fellow member lived close to Wichita and went to visit him. Thank God I did. He sent me to Marion City Lake and Park about an hour and a half away. Fantastic fishing. I stayed about 7 hours and finished with 79 landed fish. Most were bluegill (I was going ultralight), but I managed a couple nice (Kansas) bass, a decent wiper, and a surprising channel cat. All were on 4 lb test, so the cat and the wiper were a lot of fun. I did practice a little selective harvest (I kept no bass)and fried up a few bluegill later that night. I haven't figured out how to move the pics around in the post since the format change so if someone could point that out, I'd be grateful.
  21. Mom, you disappoint me.
  22. I thought the small house was really cool. Kudos to him for finding his niche and going after it.
  23. Yeah, all the time. It was instrumental in meeting people when we moved here to Kansas. Love it. @raisingdad
  24. I have never had a pimiento cheese sandwich. Smells terrible.
