Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
I have been fishing a long time but got bit 2 years ago by the bait monkey and bought everything I could find that I thought I needed. I sell stuff I find that doesn't work and replace them with things that have worked in the past or things I want to try. Rods and Reels are the worst for me right now.

How would you fish this
Fished most of the day yesterday with the group and we all caught trout. Water clarity was about 3 ft real blue color water. Temp was 48.7 degrees. Started off with the ned rig, switched to jerkbaits, then to jig & pigs, then to crankbaits, even tried some back rigs and spinners and small spoons. Marked a lot of fish and only the trout were biting. I don't know if the bass are being finicky due to the water temp there Its warmer then all the other bodies of water in the area. Thanks for the input I will try those next time I'm out.

what was your first lure
That was made in the town next to me. My first bass lure was a blue and black spinner bait when I was about 8. Everyone in the family usually used minnows for panfish in Michigan. I was told I wouldn't catch anything on it. I didn't the first day but over the next year I caught 5 or 6 fish on it. Had it until about 5 years ago and not sure what happened to it. 15 years was a good run. Didn't catch loads of fish but caught enough.

How would you fish this
I don't normally ask this type of question but I am kind of lost. I haven't fished the area before and I am fishing it tomorrow. Large river, water temp right around 39 Degrees. Close to a Dam and has natural hot springs in the area that keep certain parts at a constant 50-54 degrees year round. I was planning on fishing the the spots where the hot springs flow into the main river with soft plastics, jigs, jerk baits and big swimbaits. What are your thoughts?

Canoe vs. Kayak... A custom builder's conundrum.
I have seen the pictures with the rods all lined out and it looks awesome. From experience if you want the tracking the narrow canoes are the way to go but they can get a little tippy, but i would recommend fabricating some outriggers to help with that issue and put them toward the rear and you would have the ultimate "basselship"

BIGGEST RAT L TRAP YOU THROW
I throw a lot of the Xcalibur Xr75's for smallies and Largies. I picked up some 25's and 50's more recently but that 3/4 oz size drives them wild here in Idaho with all the rattles.

sit-in or sit-on
SOTS can drain through scuppers and you have a higher vantage point and SINKS you sit in the water more. More storage on a SOT.

The bass boat and the kayak each have their place. Check out the Hobie lineup when you start looking.

Kayak fishing for bass.
It is a little tougher topaddle without the mirage drive but I made mine the single paddle and it paddles more like a canoe if I can't use the mirage drive.

Kayak Bass Fishing National Championship 2016
I will hopefully attend in 2017. I get an extra week of paid vacation next year so I can make 2 big events instead of 1.

Kayak for Tournament Question?
There are no rules typically on what you can do mod wise. The only restrictions typically are no motors. Pvc and bungee shock cord is your friend when it comes to modifying your yak. Check out youtube for some ideas.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
That dark green is my favorite color and when I saw it and picked it up and the sales guy at the store said someone came in and said that this combo was too heavy I had to put them both together and feel it and I called the guy crazy that said it was too heavy.

Getting a new Kayak
Depending on your budget the Hobie Pro Angler line up is something to take a look at. It has storage for 6 rods on the inside and if you want they can go on the outside. Take a look at the 12' and the 14' model. I carry from 6-8 rods with me on most trips and don't feel cluttered at all. Plus you have the option to peddle or paddle and with the peddles you can get going 5+ mph. You were wanting stability for standing and these offer it. I am 6'1" and 300 lbs and stand easily in it.

Not sure what to do in this situation.
That is the main thing I am worried about right now.

Not sure what to do in this situation.
I messaged him and told him I wasn't paying another dollar and he just said no problem. I will see what happens when the rod arrives. He shipped economy shipping and I don't have a tracking hopefully it is still a 1 piece rod.

Fishing Shows Back on TV
Angler West Tv and Fishful Thinker are some good shows that I enjoy. They don't make it look like the same day and they actually say when the have a bad day and have to come back. The Scott Martin Challenge is a giant commercial. I understand thats how he makes a living but it gets ridiculous. Ish Monroe plugs everything but its not like SMC. It's hard to beat MLF and the platform. I like Hook and Look because it shows exactly how a fish reacts when taking a bait and just playing with the bait. The Lindners shows are always great as well not a lot of terrible plugs and actual info on how to fish different techniques.
