  1. The only use I could see this for would be when tying 80-100lb mono for sturgeon leaders for me. You could still hide the weld in the bait.
  2. I have the same reel. I have the same issue but has been getting worse. I tore it down and greased it correctly and I am still having the same issue. I will try a reel tech next and if that doesnt work I am going to go with another g series Curado because I haven't had an issue with those at all.
  3. I caught 2 smallies on a river the other day with a hollow body frog. They were the biggest of the day also.
  4. I haven't fished brownlee yet but I have been fishing the snake all spring and the smallie bite is on. I have friends that have been there quite a bit this year and from what I understand the crankbait bite is on. Spawn wise I have caught them in spawn stage in some areas on the snake and other spots prespawn.
  5. I just cast out and leave the bail open on the spinning rod and let it hit bottom (if it gets the chance to). Once it does I let it sit for a second then do just a quick pop of the rod tip and the key to it is leaving a little slack line to let the bait stand upright. I just adjust the how often i jump it according to how the fish want it.
  6. Went again today used the spot remover heads in 1/8th oz with the TRD worms. Pre-frontal conditions and slammed the smallies. Nothing of major size biggest was 2lbs but every cast was a fish. The TRD worms last forever too. I caught close to 25 fish on 1 worm.
  7. I will try some of the other heads and see how they work. Thanks for the input guys. It was hard to believe it would work like that. I will never run out of heads or TRD's again.
  8. Let me start off by saying I am big into trying new techniques and baits. I was hesitant to try the ned rig because it seemed very close to using the spot remover with a finesse worm, but the ole bait monkey got the best of me and made me buy some red and green pumpkin shroom heads in 1/10 oz and a package of mud minnow and green pumpkin TRD worms. I figured I had nothing to lose when trying it for the $18 it costed. I then got slapped by the bait monkey again and decided I needed a rod and reel for that rig specifically. There went another $156 for a Phenix Maxim 6'11" ML spinning rod and a Lews speed spool reel. Everything came in Friday and I couldn't wait to see what the fuss was about. I got a call late Saturday to go to the local lake on a boat (I normally bank bang). Get out at sunrise and fished it on and off for 3 hours looking for largies. Not a bite . Today I went to the biggest river in the state which is packed with smallies and decided to try it again. First cast SLAM caught a 12"er. Decided that was a start. Next cast another one about the same size. I ended up catching 23 fish anywhere from 8" to 17". Then I ran out of shroom heads because the river is so rocky I would lose one every 5th or so cast. I am a believer in the ned rig now and it is my new confidence bait. The hardest part is all the 1/10 oz size heads are sold out on TW and I need MORE. Any recommendations on where to get some that are in stock somewhere? My local Cabelas and Sportsmans Warehouse don't have them. I will see if I can get the photos to upload also.
  9. Caught this hog on a topwater frog last night. Picked the pond apart before she choked the frog down.
  10. I started catching smelliest last week here in Idaho on a pop r and I caught my first large mouth of the year last night on a frog. 6+lbs and she choked it.
  11. I don't throw deep diving baits. I will try changing size of the bait and something similar in color. I appreciate the help on this .
  12. I wait for the rod to load up then I sweep with the hookset. I tried waiting a touch longer like I would with a topwater but it didn't seem to make a difference.
  13. I forgot the Line type. I am using P-Line CXX 8lb mono. The only reason I am thinking its hookset issues is when I am landing the fish they are hardly hooked or coming off when lifting them onto the bank.
  14. I have the Abu Garcia Veracity 7' Med. Mod rod currently. I have it paired with a Shimano Curado 6:5.1 reel. I like the sensitivity of it and the feel when casting and retrieving lures. I use it with squarebills, jerkbaits and lipless crank baits. The problem and questions I have are when setting the hook on fish I do lose some from not getting a good deep hook set which is causing lost fish. My hooks are sharp so that's not the problem and I am using a sweeping motion hook set. Would you recommend going to a Medium mod-fast? or MH moderate rod? Thanks in advance for you input.
  15. I got to use it earlier this week for the second time and paired with my curado that I swapped with the lower gear ratio and I can cast any of my crank baits and the feeling is great for the price. It's very sensitive.
  16. Here are my setups for now. Still trying to find the right feel between all of the rods and reels.
