  1. They might not hit the same lure again shortly after hooked, but they will eventually. How long til they forget and hit the same lure again, I don't know, but they will some time.
  2. I'm new to shiner fishing (only used em once) and I have a few questions about it. 1. What size float should I use? 2. When fishing them under a float, how should I hook them? 3. When trolling, how should I hook them? 4. Is a flippin stick with 50lb test braid too heavy to use? 5. If I'm fishing clear water, what pound test would you recommend? This is the setup I will use: Daiwa Procyon heavy action flippin' stick, Ambassadeur 5500 reel, 50lb test braided Spiderwire. Also, should I have my drag set kind of loose? If the knowledgeable fishermen of this site could answer these questions and provide me with any other tips for shiner fishing, it would be a big help. Thanks.
  3. Well, I had a little run-in today with my neighbor's pitbull. My dad's lawnmower got the shaft bent so we need a new one but can't get it until the next mowing season. I asked my neighbor if I could borrow his since I always mow his yard and he said yes. He told me to go in the back yard and get the garage door opener off the back porch so I could get in to use the mower. I know he has a pitbull and my neighbor said that it would be in the back yard today but "he won't bite." Talk is cheap in my opinion, especially in this case. I went in the backyard and the dog started barking and growling at me. He'd run forward, bark, jump back, and then run forward again. Long story short, I backed up to leave and he charged me just as I closed the gate. As a result, I will have to wait until tomorrow when my neighbor gets back to borrow his mower. What would you have done? Some might say I'm chicken but it's a PITBULL for crying out loud, and I don't trust them. Do you think I did the right thing?
  4. I have found that tilapia are very easy to catch with lures. What always works for me is to fish for them during the spawn. What I do is sight fish when they are on the beds and cast a 3in white grub with pink tail with a little split shot well past the bed. Then I slowly reel it up to the bed and let it drop in on the fish. If it hasn't seen you, the tilapia will pick the grub up in its mouth in an attempt to remove it from the nest. Once that occurs, set the hook and hang on!
  5. I absolutely HATE turtles. Every time I catch one I have to cut my line.
  6. I would never use a topwater in winter. I just don't think it will work.
  7. The South, especially Florida. It's where I live.
  8. Try writing about the history of fishing and how it has grown and developed. You might also want to include how it has contributed to the economy and society. It would be more fun to write about techniques and such, but I did a paper on fishing about that sort of thing and got a bad grade because of it. With this kind of thing, you have to discuss an aspect of it that shows thought and that makes a point, otherwise you will just be rattling off how to catch bass, and someone who reads this paper, if they don't know anything about fishing, won't understand it.
  9. Sounds like somebody spent the night on the couch, lol. ;D
  10. I like fishing at around three in the afternoon when a light rain starts in the summer. The bass start killing my topwater popper. I also like fishing the evenings in fall, especially rivers when everything is calm.
  11. Ducks, pelicans, turtles, alligators, stingrays, bowfin, minnow, panfish.
  12. At least your catching some. I haven't caught a bass since July.
  13. Let's keep this thread going.
  14. Black. I've caught more bass on this color worm than any other in the world.
  15. Instead of taking the wife shopping, I take the wife fishing. ;D Or could this be a bad idea? :-/
  16. I believe that the biggest bass are usually caught at around midday because they wait for the smaller, feistyer bass to feed in the morning, and once they are done, the big bass move in so they can have all of the hunting area to themselves where competicion is less and they have a greater chance to catch food, which will also be easier. Big bass are lazy creatures. Think about it. If you had a choice between going to a sports bar to pick up wings when it's jam packed, or waiting till the crowd leaves, which would you choose?
  17. When I'm fishing lakes: DAWN When I'm fishing rivers: DUSK
  18. Send it to Florida sometime please! When it gets here, I would appreciate it if someone would PM me so I can give them my address. The fall bass season is almost here, and the fishing is already picking up. I would like to try the mojo magic too, and I will patiently wait my turn.
  19. Bassmaster is by far the BEST bass fishing magazine out there in my opinion. It's the only one I'll read.
  20. I have learned a ton of new information from this site about bass fishing, but unfortunately I haven't been able to take these new tips and become more successful yet. Oh well, I am still learning and it's only a matter of time before everything I have learned comes together and I start lighting up all of my local lakes and rivers. Thanks Glenn and the other moderators for creating and maintaining this awesome website.
  21. I have NEVER been unconventional. Casting a 20ft crankbait in four feet of water or a 3ft crankbait in 50ft of water is an absurd notion to me. It doesn't seem like it has hurt me though by being too conventional.
  22. Whenever I fish an area where gar are present I never catch any bass, so I would say that gar cause the bass to seek another area while they are there.
  23. I'm not a smallie fisherman since they don't exist here in Florida, but based on what I have heard, I would try some crankbaits or spinnerbaits in a chartreuse or crawfish color, or you might want to try bouncing some grubs on a jighead on the bottom, or a spider grub. I think you should have some success if you try this. As far as where you're fishing in the creek, you sound right to me to find the deeper holes, but make sure you can find some rocks because I know smallies like that type of structure. Again, I have never fished for smallies, but I feel pretty confident in my answer to you based on what I have heard about smallmouth. If I am wrong, then one of the other more knowledgeable fisherman who know about smallies will point you in the right direction.
  24. What RW said. Fish the minnow under a bobber with a little split shot, and hang on!
