  1. There's a small one acre pond that I fish here in Florida and would like to know what kinds of lures I can use to catch the big bass. The problem is that everyone who fishes this pond uses t-rigged plastic worms in the 5-7 in range, and every single 10lb plus bass has been caught at least once on these baits. I have tried spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and topwaters, but I just can't catch the big ones. Even though the bass see plastic worms regularly, I don't think they have ever seen a 12in worm. Do you think I could catch one of the lunkers on it? If so, would a C-rig with a 12in worm work? I am also thinking of trying a Mattlures Baby Bass swimbait because I know the bass have never seen one and the locals have never fished one and probably don't know what it is. Please let me know of your opinions on how to catch these monsters.
  2. My family has always like fishing. I think it started with my grandmother, who used to and still does go bass fishing. She and my grandfather lived in Florida and loved to fish. Then my dad and his brothers came along and they like to fish too, but aren't nearly as into it as I am. My dad mainly likes saltwater but goes bass fishing with me. One of my uncle's fishes a little bit, and the other one didn't really get into it until I started showing him a few things and got him hooked. Now he fishes everyday on a private lake that he lives on. Then on my mom's side of the family fishing goes back a lot further and everyone loves bass fishing.
  3. What are your fishing pet-peeves? These are mine (no particular order): 1. People fishing spinning rods upside down with the guides facing up 2. People who backreel on every cast/retrieve. 3. People who cast over your line. 4. People in other boats who don't slow down when going by fishermen. 5. Losing fish. 6. Making a t-rig and forgetting to put the sinker on. 7. Getting a strike while picking out a backlash. 8. When you fishing buddy casts to a spot you just fished and catches one. 9. Getting line caught in the trolling motor. 10. Getting treble hooks stuck in clothing, carpet, or grab rope.
  4. Primus. They don't give a darn, about any, trumpet playin band. It ain't what they call, Rock n' Roll.
  5. Hey everyone, I thought it would be a cool thread if everybody shared their experience of the first bass they ever caught. I've been fishing since I was three, but my first bass came when I was seven. I went to Gatlinburg, Tennessee and fished with my dad and a guide on some river. We fished all day with no bites until it started raining. Then the action suddenly picked up and I caught my first bass, about a 2.5 lber, on a crankbait. Surprisingly the fish wasn't hooked in the mouth but near it's eye. I've always debated whether or not that counts, but the fish probably attempted to strike the bait but was just a little off, so I'll count it. I mean, I did land it. So how about you all? What was your first bass experience like?
  6. I would just like to let everyone know that after the first PM I sent to Ben I sent another one that was an apology. And as far as the profane PM he recently sent me that made him choose to leave, I did not provoke him with any harsh words, or any words at all for that matter, that made him send it. Also, all the smilies I posted were not posted for a "prank" as Ben commented to me. I merely did it because I thought it would be cool to do something no one else has, post every single smiley (which by the way took quite a long time). Once I realized that all the smilies were slowing the site down, which I did not think would happen, I deleted the post.
  7. I wouldn't want a wooden boat. You might as well just buy an aluminum one, but if you like to build things then go for it.
  8. I have always just put the scale hook through the hole made by my lure hook. That way, you don't have to worry about putting two holes in the fish's mouth or ripping grocery bags.
  9. Disappearing from my view. Reached out a hand to try again; I'm floating in a beam of light with you; A beam of light with you. I Ran- A Flock of Seagulls I see em on the block when I passes Lookin like they need oxygen mask-es
  10. I keep seeing a lot of refurnished jon boats and a lot of them have two and three trolling motors mounted on the stern. What does this do? Is it just for more horsepower, because I thing you'd be better off just buying an outboard.
  11. Yeah, send it to Florida! Count me in LBH!
  12. Try a crankbait.
  13. In the morning this time of year I'd throw a topwater frog, popper, walk-the-dog type bait, or a buzzbait. In the afternoon I'd throw a T-rigged plastic. You might want to also try a crankbait under that bridge and try to bounce it off one of the pilings either in the morning or afternoon.
  14. Bill Dance fishes stocked lakes?! I seriously did not know this. No wonder he always catches numerous 5lb plus bass on every show. Knowing that he only fishes private bodies of water that are stocked completely changes my opinion. Sure he is an excellent fisherman and knows way more than I do, but let's face it, pretty much anyone can fish a private, stocked lake and catch a lot of fish, big ones especially. Oh well. I still like the show anyway, although I am a little dissapointed to find this out.
  15. I was just wondering, what is the weirdest way you've caught a bass? I caught a four pounder once using a bobber and a piece of bread. I've also caught one on a little two-inch crappie tube.
  16. Yes, pinkfloyd is polling again, but don't worry, I will not go overboard again. I just wanted to know how many of you use depthfinders. Does it help you be more productive? Do you catch more fish with one than without? I kinda have a feeling I would catch more fish if I had one, especially during the summer months so I can locate underwater dropoffs, humps, and structure.
  17. I just use a slow, steady retrieve and don't really twitch it at all. Works every time.
  18. I only talk in between casts and whenever I get a strike.
  19. That's my attitude, but it usually doesn't work out.
  20. lol, roadwarrior, that seems very true most of the time. I caught my first three pounder and thought it was 4 or 5lbs, and was surprised that it weighed so little.
  21. I was just wondering how long you guys stay on the water and fish. I always fish with my Dad, and since I'm only a teenager and it's his boat, he always decides how long we stay out. Usually we get on the water at seven in the morning, but by ten we leave. It's really frustrating because I think if we stayed out all day until sunset, we would catch more fish. Since we only stay out 3 hours, we're lucky to get two. Finally, my questions: How long do you stay out on the water? If we stayed out all day do you think we'd catch more fish?
  22. Since the whiskers can't hurt you, can you lip a catfish like a bass?
  23. Can the whiskers on catfish sting you if you touch them? I don't know if they can or not, maybe it's just a myth?
  24. On this earth, with all its madness Heaven help a Jupiter's child. Steppenwolf- Jupiter Child ...See the little ****** with the earring and the makeup Yeah buddy that's his own hair
  25. I don't really have a home lake because they are all about the same distance away.
