  1. Duh!! : Thanks for the link George Welcome. After reading that article I found the solution to be ridiculously obvious. I don't know why I never thought of it. Sometimes the simple, easy solutions are overlooked because we are seeking a more difficult one.
  2. Why do people comtinously say "set the hook as soon as the fish bites?" This has not worked once in my entire life. If I set the hook the instant I feel the strike I will miss every time. I always let the fish swim a little before setting the hook and have never gut hooked one. Maybe I just have ultra fast reflexes and detect strikes sooner than anyone else, so when I set the hook I miss, but when people who don't detect the strike at once set the hook, the fish has had it a little while and they always get hooked. Who knows.
  3. What Sparky and Roadwarrior said. Use weightless plastics and walk around the lake casting parallel to shore. That's what I do. I walk around the entire lake first just fishing near the shore. Usually I'll catch several bass. Then I'll start fishing deeper and repeat the process in order to catch the fish that hang out deep, which are usually bigger fish. I've tried topwaters and they work, but usually in the evening or during the day if it rains.
  4. The most bass I've ever caught in one day was nine. They were all 1-2 lbs, but I got one 3lber.
  5. Unfortunately I have never caught a 6lb+ bass before. My PB is a 3lber which isn't much to brag about. It kind of makes me question just how good a fisherman I am. I read all kinds of tips in Bassmaster Magazine, here on Bass Resource, and I even have a few fishing books. But for some reason I'm just not that good. 90% of the time :'( when I go I either get skunked or screw up my hookset on every single fish. Wish I knew what the problem is.
  6. I don't know what it could have been. I've never caught a turtle on an artificial bait before, it was always live bait or bread or something, but it could have been a bass. Who knows.
  7. A C-rig is an excellent choice.
  8. Fishing for us is like the hippie's psychadelic mind blowing drug.
  9. If it catches fish, who cares what it looks like. Like Whittler said, it doesn't matter to the bass how good the paint job is. As long as the basic colors are the right ones for the bait you're trying to imitate the lure will be fine.
  10. Any noisy topwater in a black color should work. You could also try casting a giant crankbait for those trophy bass.
  11. You can expect muddy water. Try fishing some softplastics that have a lot of appendages to attract bass. A spinnerbait might also work, but make sure you have a colorado blade.
  12. Just twitch it, let it sink, and repeat.
  13. Lake El Salto, Amazon River, and Florida Everglades. Yes I live in Florida, but I haven't had the chance to fish the glades yet. :'(
  14. Just hit the bank with softplastics.
  15. Yes, but you also might want to try a colorado bladed spinnerbait or a crankbait in a chartreuse or other very bright color.
  16. How are you going to afford your own boat? You are only 14.
  17. As far as the pond goes, it might be a little more than two acres, it's kind of hard to tell from memory, but there are in fact several bass in the 10lb range because I have seen them during the spawn. There might actually be a lot of trophy bass because they have been caught so many times and are very wise. The end result of all the fishing pressure on this pond is a bunch of lunkers that are just about uncatchable. Anyway, thanks for all the tips guys, hopefully when I do hook that monster your help will pay off and I can land him.
  18. As mentioned in one of my posts, I'm going to be fishing a small one acre pond this summer that has some bigger bass and I am planning on throwing a big 12in worm and a swimbait. I have never caught a bass bigger than three pounds. Can anyone here give me some advice on fighting a big bass? Maybe some do's and don'ts? I'll be using an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5500 reel spooled with 50lb braid and a 7ft 6in heavy action flippin' stick in case you want to know.
  19. Why should I rig it 2 to 3 inches down? Won't it look weird?
  20. I have only lost one big fish so far. I was fishing a t-rigged plastic worm in-between the bank and a patch of lily pads and I turned around to talk to my cousin and when I turned back around my line was moving into the weeds. I set the hook and fought the fish for a few seconds and then he got off and left me hung on a pad. Oh well. That's the price you pay for not watching your line 100% of the time. I didn't get too mad about losing it because the fight was so short and happened so fast I almost didn't realize it, but it could have been a 10lb plus fish, or maybe not. I will never know.
