Echomap 73 CV Plus - Waypoint Marking
Echomap Plus 73CV: Do I understand this correctly?... the only way to mark a 'Waypoint' is to hit the mark button? This only marks the screen location with GPS, NOT where the transducer is located on my boat. Correct? Which means I'm always off by 6 feet even when right over an object?

Pit Boss - Leg Analysis
Just something that came up and I solved. I love the way the original Berkley PowerBait Pit Boss creature bait waves its outer legs when reeled through the water. It's a great bait that can be moved through the water like a slow moving crankbait. BUT... I happened to buy a bunch of 3rd party "identical" creature baits to save some money and the legs DO NOT make a waving motion at all. They look exactly the same. Not the same. On further analysis the baits made in 'home-made' forms have the thickness of the legs equal all the way from the body to the end of the leg. An original Pit Boss...the legs are thinner where they connect at the body and fatter down the arm. This weight difference is what creates the leg motion. I'm now spending time (which I enjoy because I tinker with lures a lot) adding a bit of soft plastic to each outer leg by melting a rubber worm with a candle and dabbing it on the leg ends. Motion back!

Jig Prep - Beware of Melt Down
Tiny zip tie. I love that idea! Thank you.

Jig Prep - Beware of Melt Down
I have all my jigs pre-made in my Plano organizers. Maybe I shouldn't. I use Power Baits on numerous jigs as trailers. Mostly Pit Boss baits. I just was doing some organization and...CRAP! All the jigs that had Power Baits near them had the rubber bands on the skirts melting away. Quite the mess. I'm tying all those skirts with a couple loops of braided line. All good. Just a tip.

Echomap 73 CV Plus: Zig Zag Bottom
No, not waves. Waves are easy to see. I'm talking about sharp vertical zig zags that are up and down 10 feet on the graph and very close zig zags...a 1/16 of an inch apart.

Echomap 73 CV Plus: Zig Zag Bottom
All of a sudden the bottom contour line is a wild sharp zig zag line instead of a smooth bottom. What's up? Tranducer? Head unit? Cable issue?

GPS Position...so far off?!
Man made coal plant cooling lake. Water level is nearly the same every day since it is pumped in for constant level. High walls on edges. This lake never changes shoreline and can't. So odd. I'll post pics next time I'm there... if it's the same problem.

GPS Position...so far off?!
Both my Garmin and my Navionics boating app put my boat about 50 yards onto the shore. ( In the same place.) I'm fishing parallel to the shore about 50 yard from shore in 12 feet of water. What's with that?

Creature Baits - Color Position?
What do you all do?.... Creature bait is double colored. Black and blue: Which side up? Dark and light...dark side always up? Thoughts and ideas...

Garmin Echomap 73 CV: Two Transducers
Could I put another tranducer on my trolling motor using the same screen? I like to swivel the screen from the console when I'm in the butt seat up front but would like to Waypoint what is right below me. ( I know I could buy another full unit.)

Battery Charging Too High?
My Garmin screen shows 12.5 volts while sitting and 17.3 volts when running full speed. I like your idea...I'll put my multimeter on it too.

Battery Charging Too High?
1981 Mercury 50 HP 2-stroke: charges my battery at 17.3 volts. I replaced the regulator and the coil...same. same. Should I just leave it or will it burn up the charging battery with time.z

Motorguide x3 - Manual Steering Cable
Replaced the cable. Super easy. New one comes in the sheath with all connectors etc. Sliding the new cable down inside the cable cover was easy too. Tension adjustment screw needed to be loosened to connect end to pedal. Also the tension wheel must be removed to allow space for the cable end. All easy stuff.

Carolina Rig Retrieve...thoughts
What kind of retrieve are you all using and does it change based on the lure used? I love that I can feel the bottom so well with that 1 oz sinker, but should I drag it, hop it or sweep-stop etc? Does something usually work really well? (I usually use a tube or a Power worm)

Garmin Echomap 73 CV - Marking EXACT Tree or Rock
Regardless of the type of fish locator..I'd like to know best practices for marking and casting at an exact spot. I've watched the Youtubes and done both triangulating 3 Waypoints from different directions and thrown in markers. I swear I can drive right over the spot and not see it again. What do you all do? Thanks all.

Motorguide x3 - Manual Steering Cable
The cable broke under the foot peddle. Any one replace this thing? I don't see any Youtubes. Any hints before I disassemble the head? Thanks in advance.

Car Battery vs Marine Starting Battery
Any difference here? I put a Duracell 12v auto battery in and it lasted 1 year 3 months. Yuck! I wouldn't think there's a difference. Thoughts...?

Spinnerbait - Water Movement
I'm still digging for the article that tested the spinnerbait "pressure wave" in a tank. What I do remember it was specific to the sides of the bait not showing "wave pressure"...NOT the back or front. (Like a fan or prop) I'll keep looking. I remember is was a large tank with sensors on the glass.

Spinnerbait - Water Movement
I was reading an article that spinnerbait blades actually 'cut through' the water...they DO NOT push out water or pulses when tested in a tank. So in muddy water it seems there advantage is size and easy target. Any other insites on the 'water vibrations' theory?

Tube Lure - Pointed Nose - Available?
Thank you sir. I'll give them a try.

Tube Lure - Pointed Nose - Available?
Does anyone make a tube with a pointed nose so I can come through weeds easier? I like to fish my tubes with no weight and a 5/0 heavy Owner hook. Thanks for any information.

Boating Safety - Accident Explanation
I was reading about the sad passing of a college fisherman back in March who was struck by debris while driving back to the boat ramp. For the future safety of both my son and myself...does anyone know 'exactly' how this happened? Was it a floating tree with branches? What was the "debris"? No explanations are ever given.

Had my first accidental bass kill. How do i prevent this from happening again?
Soft plastics...always squeeze the barb down. This decreases the size of the hole, saves a ton of fish damage and keeps you out of the emergency room. I don't have a barb on a single lure or hook. If a fish shakes off...so what (super rare). Karma brings you a bigger one that stays on.

Pro Tour Catch Locations
I really appreciate that after a tournament the pros seem to be quite forthright and seemingly honest when revealing the lures they used during the event. But... bass fishing is mostly about the location and pattern. Do they release the exact places the bass were caught? Place on the water, depth, temperature of the water...? Or is this still kept as a guarded secret?

Marking a Location for Exact Casting
Just looking for the best practices. I've used markers...Does this spook the fish? Where do you throw them for precision? I've went over the spot from numerous angles to make sure I'm at the location...Does this spook the fish? Is this best for accuracy? What works best. I'm new to the "Garmin" world. Thanks to all.
