  1. I have the same combo. It has caught 4lb largemouth, 4lb smallmouth , 40" pike, giant perch, and giant crappie. Have used everything from 1/2oz spinnerbaits to 5/16oz shad raps to tubes. It is now my dedicated tube setup with an occasional light jerkbait. You won't be disappointed.
  2. I grabbed a 6'6" baitcaster at BPS to use as one of my travel rods. Not the highest quality but I got it on sale for $25 and it works extraordinarily well for spinnerbaits, buzzbait, and baits like that. Not 7', either, but for the price you might give 'er a look. http://m.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Graphite-Series-Casting-Rod/product/2232700/?cmCat=CROSSSELL_PRODUCT
  3. I have a 7' Falcon Bucoo micro M/M and that is pretty much the only thing I throw with it. Rated for 1/4-1/2. I would recommend it.
  4. It is a matter of personal preference. Those of us that choose to adapt to a more convenient (for us) choice in sun protection prefer not to lather up every few hours. We also don't judge and make fun of people that don't wear them.
  5. I believe that I am in the vast majority when I say that I am aware that I look like an idiot when I fish. My stupid-looking HUK blue camo long sleeve shirt and my orange-framed sunglasses, and my buff. But I hate putting on sunscreen and that is the best option for me. I think that walking around with tumors would look even more stupid.
  6. Also useful for the sudden outbreak of waterborne bird flu...
  7. I have only used their flouro and their braid. Nothing good to say about the flouro(needed some 6# NOW and that was all the store had), but I like their braid for my spinning reels. But at, like, $4 a spool you may as well give the mono a try. I bet if you did a poll around here people would say Big Game mono and you won't be disappointed. $8 for 900 yards and you won't regret it.
  8. It kind of goes along with the "nature vs nurture" debate. As a species we haven't really evolved much in the past 100,000 years or so. The only development has come from technology. That would mean that we all still have the instinct to provide for ourselves and our family in any way we can. Just as with any other predator, we eat what we can catch. We have just developed the technology to have the practice of predating become a luxury. Then there is the socioeconomic side of it. Most kids growing up in an urban setting are not going to have a whole lot of access to an area that is conducive to fishing or hunting, so that instinct is never tapped. My father never once took me hunting or fishing. He passed down his passion for football and baseball. I imagine he had enough of the "primal instinct" run it's course in Vietnam. As all bass fisherman and big game hunters know, when you have that five-pounder on the line, or that ten-pointer in your cross hairs, the adrenaline gets going. That adrenaline is your instinct to hype you up to amp your abilities and focus so you can perform better under pressure situations so you will be a more successful predator. A bit of a meandering ramble but that's the short form of my thoughts on it.
  9. I got one on monster and another at Gander Mountain. Don't think either of them have the deal currently, though. https://www.*.com/ Only one they have is the 6.3:1 (not 6.4, my mistake...) in left hand.
  10. I have two in the 6.4:1. Couldn't be happier, especially being able to buy them at $60.
  11. Just FYI, small baits do catch big fish, along with smaller ones. And vice versa. There's definitely a time and place for both sizes, same as other hollow-body type lures.
  12. LC pointer 78 in ghost minnow, most likely.
  13. I hear the "tip heavy" argument. But 1) on a piece of equipment that weighs as little as a 6'8" fishing rod, how much difference can 1/4 ounce at the tip make? 2) the price and service trumps any issues with balancing 3) I don't know what you people complaining about the tip being too heavy do for a living, but when you carry sleeper-sofas on your shoulder for 11 years you begin to not notice a slight imbalance in the force...
  14. I have pantomimed my jerkbait and walk-the-dog technique in bed. But that's only on special occasions.
  15. Couple Sammys in 110 and 115 Aurora Black and Chartreuse Shad, respectively, Pointer 100SP in Pearl Threadfin Shad, pointer 78SP in ghost Minnow and LV-500 in Spring Craw. Did I say I was excited? It's Christmas in April!
  16. Got home from work this evening and had a package waiting for me. Apparently I was the winner of the Lucky Craft giveaway at a certain fishing site. I'm one excited dude...
  17. It's all about doing research to know what I want when the price is right. Not necessarily settling for what is on sale.
  18. Well, neither of those are 40% off. I never pay full price on gear.
  19. They are definitely the SCII blank. I don't think that changes anything for me. You guys didn't do a very good job of convincing me to not buy one then my wife told me I should. I guess I have to buy a new rod. I'm very disappointed...
  20. Only if I can get it for 75% off. Couldn't bring myself to spend that much on a rod. I'd be too afraid to use it.
  21. I believe it's the new version. That's not helping...
  22. So Cabela's is going to have St. Croix Mojo rods for 40% off pretty soon here. So I should be able to get a new jerkbait rod for around $70. I know some people have had some issues with the Mojo line as opposed to others in the St. Croix family, but I also know their service and warranty is second to none. Is there any reason to not buy one?
  23. Yeah. This Indian Winter depression is starting to take its toll. I haven't even had the heart to practice pitching off my deck...
  24. I went with the exceler and Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 7'6" MH as I don't have an abundance of thick salad in Northern Michigan. Got them at Gander Mountain for a total of $110 when they were doing their first cast promotion. Haven't gotten to use it seriously yet this season but it feels great so far. I'm not sure what my point is, other than I like what I bought...
