Backing Floro with Mono
I actually use 10# cheap braid for backing and only put about two rod lengths of flouro leader on. Braid almost never has to be changed out, then that 200 yd spool will literally last FOREVER. FOREVER...

Interesting question
Ducks are d*cks. Horses are nice. And, in that case, very small.

THE WALKING DEAD is back finally!!!
I actually love that they split the seasons up like they do. It's brilliant, as far as viewership, considering they don't go up against the NFL during playoff races and actual playoffs and Super Bowl. That frees me up to watch Sunday Night Football when the games are high stakes. Then it's on pretty much just long enough for my ice to melt... But, yeah. Show's awesome.

falcon bucco micro
I've got the same Med rod. Super super sensitive for squarebills and light cranks.

Spring classic sale
They usually do essentially the same deals, minus things like rod and reel trade-ins, online the next week or so.

Cheap baitcast combos
You can get a black max reel for $30 at Cabela's online. A silver max for $40, a Lew's Laser MG for $50. I'd go with something like that and then go to Wal-mart and and get a decent rod for around $30-40. You'd probably thank yourself later. Also, wait a little bit. There's going to be spring fishing sales at all the major stores in the coming month or two. Great deals to be had.

My only thought was, "if I was a child that thing would be terrifying." And babies are NOT some of the best things. Way down. On the list...

mono for frogging
If you're fishing places that are largely without vegetation, considering the reel, it is completely unnecessary to use braid and, if you hook into a good fish and have braid that is normally used for frogging (40-65#), there is a good chance you could damage your reel. I have 15# Big Game on my Black Max and use it for anything from topwater to spinnerbaits to Texas rigs and jigs. Mono is actually perfect for what you're describing, in my eyes.

mono for frogging
I imagine that for a lot of us, when you're a novice and using a frog you're usually using mono by default. Everyone starts with mono. Then, as you get better, start doing more research, see what a lot of other anglers are using, you switch to braid for certain applications. That usually coincides with actually becoming a more competent fisherman. So it would stand to reason that you don't have as much success with mono; you're not that good. I bet after you gained confidence in frogging with braid and went back to mono you would be a lot better than the first time you tried it. I have a number of times where I have a different size/color/style of frog tied on an alternate rod to my dedicated frog rod with 15# mono and haven't noticed a drop-off in my performance.

Any Abu Garcia "Max" users?
I've got a pro and a black max. I've had the black going on three years and it's caught a lot of nice fish. Really like the pro, too, but I got it toward the end of last season and didn't have much chance to use it. I did, though, just get a Daiwa Exceler from Monster. $60 discounted from $100, plus you get a free Huk long-sleeve shirt, which retails for, like, $40-50. Best deal I've had in a long time. The Exceler fits my Bucoo perfectly and $55 for an aluminum framed reel is pretty sweet.

Splitting fuel and other costs with a regular partner
My fishing partner is retired, came into quite a bit of money, and has refused any cash I offer him. Because of that I usually grab drinks, lunch, snacks. I've given TW gift cards and a pretty sweet spinning combo, too. So you make it up when you can, as a co-angler.

Trimming frog legs
I trim all frog legs, popping or otherwise. I'm not sure of the effect it has on action, because I haven't noticed much difference, but I really feel like it changes the fish's strike zone if the legs are shorter. I have had far fewer short strikes after I started trimming than I did before.

Storm Arashi squarebills
Only four colors in the two sizes. Bluegill, wakasagi, rusty craw, and parrott. But about 16-20 total. And only the silent, as well.

Storm Arashi squarebills
My local Meijer has Arashi Squarebills on clearancefor five bucks. Picked up three of the #3 size, seriously considering just clearing them out. Sound like a plan?

Best $100 spinning bass rod and reel combo
Pflueger President reel, and I've heard really good things about the Berkley Lightning rods. I got the actual President combo a couple years ago and it's only $70 or $80, but the rod leaves something to be desired. But it's not terrible. The Pflueger Trion is also a good option and only about $40.
