  1. Hey Guys, So gander mountain is offering a $20 rebate on the Lew’s TP-1 Speed stick as well as a $10 off $100 coupon. They are offering a $25 rebate with a free marmot jacket on the fenwick HMG as well as the 10 off 100. So my question is for those who might have tried either rod… Should I get the TP-1 for $70 or the HMG for $65 with the jacket? Are the microwave guides worth the extra 5 bucks or is the HMG superior and cheaper? Let me know, Thanks! This will be for a finesse setup, I was thinking the 6'9'' MLF (spinning) for either.
  2. Score from a local flea market today. $60!
  3. A lot of great suggestions! Thanks, this will give me something to think about. I may end up with another combo haha.
  4. Thank you, this is exactly the kind of comment I was looking for. hadn't thought about something XF for vertical purposes. not sure what you mean by something being fast and having a soft tip though..
  5. Yeah I actually read through most of that... I am really more asking about techniques to have set ups for I think.. hard to explain. I just want to get the most out of all the spots I have on the rod holder. See edit. sorry I hit enter on accident and it posted before I was done.
  6. Hey guys, So I started getting really into bass fishing 2 or 3 years ago, and started really expanding my arsenal of rods and reels last year. I know there are a ton of threads dedicated to which rod is best for different things. I am not asking for recommendations on specific rods and price points, I can figure that out. What I am asking for is help rounding out my arsenal. I am in the market for probably 2 rods (1 casting 1 spinning) and 2 reels (lefty casting). What I would like is suggestions on is what to do with the open slots in my arsenal and maybe what techniques I should have specifics set ups for (given 11 total slots). Here is what I have (My thoughts on use in parenthesis): Casting: 7'6'' MHF - 6.4:1 gear ratio (Pitchin Jigs, probable upgrade to High speed reel) 7' MHF - 6.4:1 gear ratio (Spinnerbaits / swimjigs / chatterbaits) 7' MHF micro guides - 6.4:1 gear ratio (Spinnerbaits / swimjigs / chatterbaits) 7' MHM - 6.4:1 gear ratio (Topwater, possibly lipless) 7' MHMF (Fritts perfect crank) - 5:1 greenie (All cranks, mostly shallow and medium divers) 6'5'' MF - 6.3:1 greenie (Jerkbaits / unknown haha) 8' Heavy Mod Fast - Calcutta 200 ( A-rigs and Swimbaits) Open slot (I was thinking 7' MH or H extra fast for frogging with a high speed reel) Spinning: 7'2'' MLF - 2500 stradic (Dropshot / tubes) 7'2'' MLF - 35 president limited (Dropshot / tubes) Open rod slot - 35 president (Really unsure what I should do with this slot) I have been using my 7'6'' MHF for frogs as well and I don't really like it for frogs that much.. Are there any other techniques you might think I should have a casting set up for? Also, I always have a dropshot on one spinning rod and a tube on the other. what other finesse technic should I tackle and what power/action rod would you recommend with it? I am in the finger lakes region of NY so there is plenty smallmouth and largemouth fishing. If this really is another best rod thread, I am sorry. But I thought it would be fun to get a few different takes on my "technique arsenal" as a whole rather than specific rods. Let me know what you think. Thanks!
  7. Yeah I actually think they look awesome as well but for some reason I haven't heard of many people liking them very much.
  8. I was actually in his boat as a marshal during a tournament last year and was pleasantly surprised to find that every single baitcaster he used was one of those. Now he probably had some upgraded components but I'm not so sure. He also used almost exclusively, his own Luck-e-strike lures that had his name on it as well. So I would say he probably isn't ashamed of them (regardless of whether or not he should be :p). Oh and probably 80% of his rods were those turquoise ones everyone seems to hate haha.
  9. I meant to write your name. not another site... that was weird.
  10. Thanks another site. I did end up going with the do it mold. pretty excited to try it out.
  11. Thanks Allen, I did look at their site, it seems the do it mold is still a better option as far as the tube jigs go.
  12. I am looking into doing some molding for the jigs and weights I use the most, mainly tube jigs and drop shot weights. I was wondering if anyone knew of any other companies that sold these kind of molds. I already have the do it molds drop shot mold so i don't need one of those, but the tube jig molds are expensive and they don't seem to have much with the sizing I would like (assortment from at least 1/16 to 1/2 oz). Anybody know of anything? Also, was thinking I could get the teardrop jig mold (#3287) instead, since it goes down to 1/16. Would those be able to be used as tube jigs without hurting any action? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
  13. Is "this spot" within reasonable boating distance from the lodi area? haha
  14. I have a cottage on seneca... so I really wanna catch fish there... but...i don't lol
  15. I went out to Lamoka for a few hours on Sunday and caught 6, 1 that was pushing 3 pounds 4 that were about 2 pounds and 2 dinks. All on a white chatterbait. It was really windy so my plan to throw weightless plastics kinda got screwed up but I managed a limit so I'm happy.
  16. I use the old excalibur dancin-shads. they said spit'n image on them. I think heddon makes them now, but I love them as a walking bait when the top water bite is on!!
  17. Ok so I recently bought a huge lot of bass fishing equipment, and there were 2 crankin rods. One was a david fritts perfect crank (7' MH and it says fast taper) and the other is a st. croix mojo bass crankbait rod (7' MH Moderate). I only want to keep one rod for all around cranking (Squarebills, traps, and up to 6xd's). So my question is, Which should I keep and which should I sell?
  18. So I just stripped down some Pq's and cleaned/lubed them according to TackleJunky81's vid on youtube. now one of them seems to be clackin when I reel it. I will spin the reel and it is almost like the spool is moving back and forth or the pinion is loose or something. Any ideas?
  19. Just wanted to jump on this thread. I haven't been able to get out yet but I am hoping to be getting out to lamoka, keuka and the chemung and susq rivers very soon. If any body hits any of those let me know how it goes!
  20. I like this. Definitely will give it a try
  21. So nothing on the bottom. Should I wrap tape all the way around the "circumference" of the top or just on the back part of it?
  22. Ok so I have a PQ that I want to pair with a 6'6'' medium action rod. It's an older guide series rod. I love the feel of both the rod and the reel paired together, but I am having a problem getting the reel to stay tight in the seat. (Fuji graphite seat FYI). After I get it as tight as I can by hand I can kinda force the reel forward and it pops out pretty easily. Like if a fish pulled hard I think it would pop out... What can I do to get it tight? Thanks.
  23. Do you use backing for hybrid? or just tie it right to the spool?
  24. Ok cool thanks man. Maybe I'll see you at one of the tournaments this summer.
