  1. Easily asked question, can braid cover ALL aspects of topwater fishing that mono covers? I am trying to eliminate mono line if I can. The only purpose I really have kept it around for is for top water work. Thanks in advance guys.
  2. My brother has the new white and black one. And yes they are Dual Braked. This one I am looking at is from about 2005 or so.... I saw one on Ebay that looked exactly like it and it had sold for $25. The person has it listed for $60 where I am looking. Little to high for what I've seen it sell for.
  3. I have a chance to get a Quantum Accurist PT for $40.... I am not certain what model but I do know it is slightly older 2000ish era. Do you guys think this is a good deal? And is the reel a decent reel? It won't be my primary just a new back up for me. Thanks in advance guys
  4. I have a can of spray silicone that I have been reluctant to use as a line conditioner. So I went to the Academy yesterday and check both Ardent and Reel Magic and they both smell horribly strong of petroleum products. So I guess my question is, does KVD's L&L have this same property? If it does then I don't seen what the point is in paying all that extra cash for a product I already have in house. Thanks guys.. Best information ever from you guys.
  5. Is spiral wrapping really an improvement on a custom rod? I saw my first spiral wrap on a casting rod and got to cast it a few time (about 20 casts or so). I honestly didn't feel any difference, and that was after being taken through it's demonstration. It felt a little awkward as well, like something wasn't quite natural about it. So, to elude to my previous question, is this wrapping method really an improvement and I just need to bite the bullet and give it a try on the water. Is that when I will notice the difference? Thanks for anything you guys can come up with for me.
  6. DVT, where did you hear this tidbit from? To me that may be a tad bit disappointing. Bass Pro's equipment has always had a certain quality about it. I can't say the same for Quantum's gear. That's just my opinion.
  7. I'll be out throughout the week hittingsome of the smaller lakes down in South KC area. I think tomorrow will be Lake Peculiar. Botts Road Pond should be warming up too.
  8. Imo you cant go wrong with the PQ
  9. Ardent didn't put their name on it for a reason.
  10. H2o Express Ethos! I love mine!!!
  11. I am with Penguino...... Get the Pro Qualifier while you can, and the Lightning Rod is a solid general purpose rod!
  12. I went with an H2O Ethos 7'6" Extra Heavy (their heavy was a little light). I jave loved this rod so far. $59.99
  13. Buy the Ardent, get the $100 then buy a nicer reel, sell the Ardent. Unless you like it, then you virtually got it for free.
  14. Ok Shimano Guys, tell me about this reel. I can't find much about it at all. Thanks again
  15. Another vote for the H2O Mettle. It is a solid reel and Academy's return policy is no questions asked the BEST!!! No questions asked, if something is wrong with the reel, or rod, take it in and exchange it.
  16. The upside to your Johnny Morris is it has the solid aluminum frame and side plates, as well as the duraluminum gears. Some will say it has more bearings, but in my opinion bearing quality is MUCH more important. In that case the Shimano gets my nod there. The other thing I wasn't crazy about with the Johnny Morris is it's weight. At the end of the day, how it feels in your hands is the most important thing, mostly when you have your prey on the end of your line. Hope this may help just a little bit.
  17. If you were to do a non-combo rod and reel, the Berkley Lightening Stick is an amazing stick for the cost. It runs about $40. It will handle just about anything that you throw at it, within it's specifications. A good reel for the other $50-$60 would be a H2O Mettle or Abu Garcia Silver Max... The upside to the Mettle is it has a solid aluminum frame and the Academy guarantee. The upside to the Silver Max is, it is an Abu Garcia... Abu has been a great name for a LONG time!!!!
  18. The mettle is an EXCELLENT reel. Plus Academy stands by their products 100%. Every time I've heard about one of their rods or reels breaking, people take them right back to the store and they get exchanged, no questions asked... You can't beat that kind of guarantee.
  19. The Lew's that I use is a cheapo WalMart one. It is the Jason Christie Lews Baitcast combo. I actually found it on craigslist for $40. It is normally an $80 setup. The paddle handles are super nice too.
  20. The lew's combo is AMAZING!!! I use mine as my soft plastics rod. If you can get it in medium action it is a GREAT cranking rod
  21. For all you guys saying it is not worth it. What would you say is a good price for it?
  22. I've seen to many different models of the Curado. So being uneducated in the way of Shimano, I was hoping to get some good feed back. I know Shimano is one of great names in fishing. Just want to know if this is one that is a good investment. I have an opportunity to pick it up for under $50. So like I said want to make sure it is a good deal or not.
