  1. I definitely have my go-to baits or confidence baits. 1/2 oz. chatterbait, senko, T-rig rage bug, jig and pig. But, I like to experiment with other baits. That's part of the fun of fishing for me. I would say 90% of my bass this year came on these four. I am working on dropshotting and deep jig fishing. I feel confident fishing top water and absolutely love it, but the majority of lakes I fished this year didn't have a great top water bite. Learning is a huge part of the fun for me with bass fishing. My family might actually call it a problem, an expensive problem.
  2. i just purchased some Cabelas Guidewear gore-tex pants for $99 on sale. I got the tall and they are actually almost too long which doesn't happen for me very often. They were regularly $250. Great deal. I then bought the Rainy River Gore-tex parka for $129 and used my coupon for @20 off. I liked the softness of this jacket over the guidewear which seemed too stiff to fish in. Have used this gear 3 times already in pouring rain and stayed bone dry. Gore-tex is magic. No sweating and dry. I would recommend these if you can find them on sale. I just checked and the pants are still on sale for $99, but they only have XL sizes and above. I am 6'2" and 215 lbs. and bought the large tall and they were perfect. I have tried and still own Frogg Toggs and they work, but nothing compared to a quality gore-tex rainwear. Good Luck and stay dry!!
  3. Thanks Tucson. I just placed an order. $17.99 with free shipping as a doorbuster as well. Will see how it works.
  4. How can you not love this topic. The moral of the story is, "Get out and fish more to be a better fisherman and catch more fish!"
  5. This is a great read. Very informative. Nice history as well.
  6. Dicks has $20 off $100 for Columbus Day
  7. The old Crock o Gator craw. Nice catch.
  8. Thanks everyone. There are really a lot of nice choices. I am going to look into them all and add to my wardrobe.
  9. This is a question I have had for a while. So specific leader line material is a much better choice for leaders? Good knots?, flexible for a natural presentation? I will gladly buy this if it is better. Thanks
  10. I bit the bullet and purchased 2 different Daiwa reels with SV spools this summer for skipping. I do have braid on them and only get minor over runs once in a while. I even skip weightless Senkos now on 15 pound braid. I agree the rod also plays a factor and more tip does help. I just make sure it also has enough backbone to drive a jig hook home. This has definitely helped me catch more fish BUT it is also just much more comfortable and powerful to fish with casting rods. I do still carry a spinning rod on back up.
  11. I am taking something valuable away from this discussion. I have done this before, but in Sunday's tournament I am going to make the same pass with different types, colors, etc. on the same productive stretch and see what we can pull out of there on each pass. Just a good reminder. Thanks all
  12. Thanks NHBull. I have seen bamboo in my search as well. I have to research that a little more to figure out the benefits of bamboo in clothing.
  13. Thanks again guys. I am going to check these brands out and see if they are what I am looking for. I have seen a couple shirts with cooling technology, anyone tried these? Do they actually work? That would be helpful during a long day on the boat. I have tried the tube face masks that you wet, snap, and wear, and they actually worked well while they were wet. If the shirts could do that, they would be worth it. I wouldn't want to wear a wet shirt though. I assume they somehow cool while you wear them. I think I read they fool while they evaporate perspiration.
  14. Thanks guys. Interesting discussion.
  15. i am sure there is no absolute or 100% proof, but an observation like @Outdoors mentions above makes a guy wonder. Just seeing if people have observed this over years of observation.
  16. I have been wondering if fish get educated to a certain bait, lure, presentation over time if they keep seeing it? Let's say numerous people keep skipping senkos under a dock on the same lake day in and day out. Do these fish learn not to bite them? Hope some of you experts who have fished for a long time have a theory. Thanks
  17. Claya, thanks a lot. That will be slick to use with my current jig line up.
  18. I don't give out information Willy nilly, but have a group of friends we share info back and forth. I will help out a new angler as well. If I see a kid in a boat, I am all in with helping any way I can. It always brings a smile to my face when I see a parent with a kid fishing.
  19. Thanks all. I have used Cabelas brand and got a free Huk with Tatula SV purchase. I will have to grab a Columbia Hoodie. I will look up Patagonia. I will pay up for comfort and quality. Good fishin everyone!!
  20. Hey All, Mywife has had some nasty skin cancer issues, thus, I have been asked politely to wear sun protective clothing. I now wear SPF pants and shirts. I have found these to be really nice and actually keep me cooler. I really like the hooded tops to protect my bald dome ( even though I get called unibomber all the time). Question is, what brand do you like if wearing SPF fishing wear?? Thanks
  21. Thanks Catt. I did check them out. Looks like you just have to call in your order? I think I am going to give them a try. $2.85 with a Gama hook is a great deal.
  22. Thanks guys. That trailer hitch keeper is in my cart at Tackle Warehouse. I will also pick up some Loctite. I have noticed some glues stink for fishing applications. I have some fishing glue with a brush applicator, but not overly impressed. Looks like I have some money to spend on jigs, keepers, and glues. I appreciate all and any advice!!
  23. Those are nice combos. Should work fine. I also run some Lews reels. I like them. I was the same way. I would start out getting the feel with the spinning reel, then try casting reel..........and pick out a backlash or two
  24. I purchased two Daiwa reels with SV spools this year to help my skipping with a baitcaster. Not sure if it is the reel or the placebo confidence effect, but I am skipping weightless senkos on a 6'9" medium caster rod with a zillion SV and light jigs with a Tatula SV on a Tatula 6'10" mh. I am now trying to skip with other baitcasters and having some success. I still have a senko tied on a spinning rod at all times. Still easier when needed. Really prefer setting the hook and fighting fish on the baitcaster though.
  25. Tom, I have tried pork many years ago and remember them being VERY sturdy. In your experience, do they have as good of action as plastics to entice the bite. Pork has me curious now, because if I remember, I had to cut the pork off my hook with a very sharp knife. That should skip all day with no problems. Thanks! By the way, every time I look at one of your posts, I sit back and wonder what a fish like that would look like coming up to the boat. Cannot imagine!!
