Fenwick Warranty
My first Fenwick was one of the newer HMG's, first fish I caught on it the weld on the tip broke and bent. One call to Fenwick and they replaced it, the person on the phone was the areas sells rep and had the replacement sent to the local tackle store in a few days.

St. Croix Mojo Bass vs. Premier
I'm slowly migrating all my rods to St Croix's. So far I've fished a Mojo top water first gen, a Premier 7' MHF and a Avid 6'6" MLF. I returned the mojo shortly after purchase, it just seemed tip heavy but I've herd that they have fixed it with the next generation SClll blanks. The Premier to me is a great value, I find the full cork grip comfortable and would pay the extra $10 just for that over the Mojo.

Dropshot Knot Trouble
I started using a special shank hook for my drop shot rig after receiving it in a MTB. I like the way it allowes the bait to bounce with ever shake of the rod. I still use the Palomar knot tied to the bend of the hook and run the tag end through the eyelet, so the hook is always pointed up. I don't have the package the hooks came in, so I don't have the name brand but it has worked very wellthis summer.

Medium or Medium Heavy Rod?
I have a few setups that that I would recommend for your types of fishing. I use a Bass Pro carbon light 6'8" medium extra fast for sinkos, the soft tip let the fish load up good and with the stiff backbone setting the hook is not a problem. My inline spinner setup is a ML Avid with a fast tip, just lift the rod for a hook set and the ML bend in the rod keeps the fish hooked. Last but not least is a Fenwick HMG 7' HMG medium light fast. The rod is rated ML but fits between ML-M. If your wanting one rod I would take a hard look at these in the length that fits you fishing situation.

Penn Battle 2 5k or 6k?
As long as you have the right rod I think it would handle 30# braid, but I can't see fishing bass with anything bigger the 3500. Not saying it can't be done just don't think it would be much fun. Now playing a big striper or catfish on the 3500 would be a blast. But , I do have the 4500 LiveLiner on my Christmas list. If your fishing Smith lake I might need some advice about the trout fishing in Sipsey Fork. I have a weekend planed up there at the end of September.

Penn Battle 2 5k or 6k?
Battles are good reels but the sizes you mention are big and heavy. Look at a Spinfisher 3500. It can be had for close to the same price, weights less than the bigger reels, and is very well made.

Show off your Stuff
I've had the 6'6" Avid MLF paired with a 2500FJ for a few months and can say enough good things about this combo. It's just one of those setups that you want to have with on any fishing trip. Mine has caught bream, white perch, bass , schooling speckle trout and a few rat reds. It's light enough to fish all day and is a joy to fish several techniques. I like it use it for drop shot and weightless plastics in open water. Just today I caught a couple of bass on a Ned rig using this setup. So congrats on the new combo.

Rod, reel, lure and line you caught your PB bass on.
Mine was on a Abu veritas 6'9" with a Revo S lined with 15# Yozuri, fishing a 10 zoom worm in cottonmouth color with a 1/4oz tungsten weight. Not a monster to some standards (7# 13oz). But the way I see it I have a chance to best it with every cast.

Your recommendations for a round baitcaster for big swimbaits and inshore fishing
I've never put the Shimano naming convention together, that ingenuous. Thanks for the tip. I used the Tekota on an eight foot steelhead rod throwing big jigs and bottom fishing in the mouth of lake Ponchartrain, can't say it casts that great but it chunked the heavier baits fine. Isn't there something different in the thumb bar between the Cardiff 400a and the Calcutta?

Your recommendations for a round baitcaster for big swimbaits and inshore fishing
While I love Shimano Calcuttas, you may want to look at the Shimano Tekota 300. One thing I like inshore fishing out of a kayak is a reel with a clicker, and the Tekota is the smallest I can find with this option. It has a lever instead of a button but this may be a better option throwing heavy swim baits.

Shimano Calcutta combo
If your soaking bait on the bottom the Calcutta 400 with the Teramar MH would be great for anything that may bite, but for throwing artificial baits I like the old 200B on a medium fast HMG. I use 30-40# braid with a 12-14# mono leader.

Duckett 7ft crank rod thoughts
I have the 7' medium Ghost and it's very light weight and does have good backbone when you get to it, but I find it to have to much action to throw crank baits that dive deeper than 8-10 feet. I have rigged this rod to throw weightless plastics to open water fish with good success. Another application I've found it good for is throwing small mirrordines at schooling speckle trout, the quick tip keeps the hooked. If your just looking for a good cranking rod I suggest an crankinstik. I have one paired with a Shimano Cardiff 100a, for under $200 it a fantastic setup.

I'm looking into buying a round baitcast reel
I use a Cardiff 100a for square bill and shallow cranking and a Cardiff 200a for deep cranking. I have a Abu 5600 I use for bottom fishing inshore and a 7000i for offshore. While the Abu's can take a beating and are easy to clean the Shimanos are a lot smoother and are more compact for freshwater applications. If you can spring the cash the Calcutta's are top notch. A few years ago we used a 700B to reel in an 11'+ gator.

Help with new spinning setup avid mf 6'6"
Although I use Yozuri hybrid on multiple rods, I like braid with a floro leader on spinning gear. The only time I switch spools is if I'm fishing weightless and I want the bait to sink faster. My second spool is InvizX 8#.

Abu SX Spinning vs. Team Lew's Pro Speed Spin
I have several spinning setups and my Revo SX is a close second to my Stradic FJ. The Revo is a 30 and I like the way it handles florocarbon. I fish braid with a leader mostly but I like having the extra spool that came with the SX for a full spool of 8# florocarbon. I use it to allow a sinko or fluke Jr. to sink deeper when fish are hanging down deep this time of year. I'm not sure what Lews reel I have but the drag is not as smooth as the Revo and I had several wind knots using braid.

Falcon saltwater rods as finesse bass?
I had a Falcon XG MH redfish paired with a Sahara 3000 I used when I first started bass fishing a spinning reel. The tip on the XG's seem light but the backbone is stout. I now have it paired with a Spinfisher 3500 that balanced better and have caught several reds over 30. The light tip makes it easier to throw popping corks but I don't find it as sensitive as some of my newer bass rods. If your looking for a rod to bass fish with and some saltwater too, take a look at the Fenwick HMG's.

Need for high end spinning reel??
I have fished shimano's for years in salt water, but never took the plunge on their higher end reels. Most of my experience was with the Sahara and one Symetre. When looking at better spinning tackle I bought a Abu SX 30 and it was great until I just got a deal on a Stradic FJ. It worth the money, even though I only gave $80 for it. Paired with some 10# power pro and a Fenwick HMG ML it has been pure poison with small crawls and sinkos on the beds. So to answer your question does it catch more fish, I doubt it, but I'm a happy customer.

In need of a new spinning reel...
I ran into a deal today at the local Dick's. Stradic 2500fj for 99.00 and I had a $20 coupon. It took the sales guy a few minutes but he found the box. I know it's the older model but I think I got a heck of a deal.

Fishing Rods With A Lot of Bend
I have a Duckett Ghost M cranking that has the most parabolic bend than any other rod I've used.

New To Tournaments, Need Some Advice.
I have been fishing a few Tournaments lately and have really enjoyed it. So, now I have the bug to turn up my game. I am signing the deed tomorrow to a lake to help hone my skills. So what I would like to know, is it better to go out and practice with one setup (ie. cranking, flipping, finesse) until I learn how to fish that technique or bring multiple setup and learn to read the water. I mostly just throw worms or spinner baits now, and with the summertime bite turning on I not sure how to get the the most out of my time on the water.

Yo-Zuri Hybrid Question
After reading the review here I spooled up 15# Yozuri before my last tournament and it preformed really well, but I did treat it the night before with L&L. I have P-line floroclear 15# on another rod and it cast a little smoother but the Yozuri seemed a lot stronger and less stretch. I'm headed to Pickwick in a few weeks and think I'm going to try 12 # hybrid in the clearer water. The Yozuri does feel thicker the the P-line in the same weight but I'm not sure about the actual size.

What's Your Favorite/ Go To Spinning Reel?
Shimano Symetre 2500 for dropshoting on a Clarus 6'6" M MF, Revo SX 30 BPS Carbonlite 6'8" M XF for shakey head.
